Book Inequalities And Applications

Download or read book Inequalities And Applications written by Ravi P Agarwal and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-07-15 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World Scientific Series in Applicable Analysis (WSSIAA) reports new developments of a high mathematical standard and of current interest. Each volume in the series is devoted to mathematical analysis that has been applied, or is potentially applicable to the solution of scientific, engineering, and social problems. The third volume of WSSIAA contains 47 research articles on inequalities by leading mathematicians from all over the world and a tribute by R.M. Redheffer to Wolfgang Walter — to whom this volume is dedicated — on his 66th birthday.Contributors: A Acker, J D Aczél, A Alvino, K A Ames, Y Avishai, C Bandle, B M Brown, R C Brown, D Brydak, P S Bullen, K Deimling, J Diaz, Á Elbert, P W Eloe, L H Erbe, H Esser, M Essén, W D Evans, W N Everitt, V Ferone, A M Fink, R Ger, R Girgensohn, P Goetgheluck, W Haussmann, S Heikkilä, J Henderson, G Herzog, D B Hinton, T Horiuchi, S Hu, B Kawohl, V G Kirby; N Kirchhoff, G H Knightly, H W Knobloch, Q Kong, H König, A Kufner, M K Kwong, A Laforgia, V Lakshmikantham, S Leela, R Lemmert, E R Love, G Lüttgens, S Malek, R Manásevich, J Mawhin, R Medina, M Migda, R J Nessel, Z Páles, N S Papageorgiou, L E Payne, J Pe…ariƒ, L E Persson, A Peterson, M Pinto, M Plum, J Popenda, G Porru, R M Redheffer, A A Sagle, S Saitoh, D Sather, K Schmitt, D F Shea, A Simon, S Sivasundaram, R Sperb, C S Stanton, G Talenti, G Trombetti, S Varošanec, A S Vatsala, P Volkmann, H Wang, V Weckesser, F Zanolin, K Zeller, A Zettl.

Book Discrete Subgroups of Lie Groups

Download or read book Discrete Subgroups of Lie Groups written by Madabusi S. Raghunathan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-11-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book originated from a course of lectures given at Yale University during 1968-69 and a more elaborate one, the next year, at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Its aim is to present a detailed ac count of some of the recent work on the geometric aspects of the theory of discrete subgroups of Lie groups. Our interest, by and large, is in a special class of discrete subgroups of Lie groups, viz., lattices (by a lattice in a locally compact group G, we mean a discrete subgroup H such that the homogeneous space GJ H carries a finite G-invariant measure). It is assumed that the reader has considerable familiarity with Lie groups and algebraic groups. However most of the results used frequently in the book are summarised in "Preliminaries"; this chapter, it is hoped, will be useful as a reference. We now briefly outline the contents of the book. Chapter I deals with results of a general nature on lattices in locally compact groups. The second chapter is an account of the fairly complete study of lattices in nilpotent Lie groups carried out by Ma1cev. Chapters III and IV are devoted to lattices in solvable Lie groups; most of the theorems here are due to Mostow. In Chapter V we prove a density theorem due to Borel: this is the first important result on lattices in semisimple Lie groups.

Download or read book The Painlev Property written by Robert Conte and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject this volume is explicit integration, that is, the analytical as opposed to the numerical solution, of all kinds of nonlinear differential equations (ordinary differential, partial differential, finite difference). Such equations describe many physical phenomena, their analytic solutions (particular solutions, first integral, and so forth) are in many cases preferable to numerical computation, which may be long, costly and, worst, subject to numerical errors. In addition, the analytic approach can provide a global knowledge of the solution, while the numerical approach is always local. Explicit integration is based on the powerful methods based on an in-depth study of singularities, that were first used by Poincar and subsequently developed by Painlev in his famous Leons de Stockholm of 1895. The recent interest in the subject and in the equations investigated by Painlev dates back about thirty years ago, arising from three, apparently disjoint, fields: the Ising model of statistical physics and field theory, propagation of solitons, and dynamical systems. The chapters in this volume, based on courses given at Cargse 1998, alternate mathematics and physics; they are intended to bring researchers entering the field to the level of present research.

Book The Congruence Subgroup Problem

Download or read book The Congruence Subgroup Problem written by B. Sury and published by Hindustan Book Agency and Indian National Science Academy. This book was released on 2003 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is an elementary introduction to the congruence subgroup problem, a problem which deals with number theoretic properties of groups defined arithmetically." "The novelty and, indeed, the goal of this book is to present some applications to group theory as well as to number theory which have emerged in the last fifteen years." "No knowledge of algebraic groups is assumed and the choice of the examples discussed seeks to convey that even these special cases give interesting applications." "The book is intended for beginning graduate students. Many exercises are given."--BOOK JACKET.
