Book Immanuel Kant Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals

Download or read book Immanuel Kant Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals written by Immanuel Kant and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-02-03 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in 1785, the Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals is one of the most powerful texts in the history of ethical thought. In this book, Immanuel Kant formulates and justifies a supreme principle of morality that issues universal and unconditional moral commands. These commands receive their normative force from the fact that rational agents autonomously impose the moral law upon themselves. As such, they are laws of freedom. This volume contains the first facing-page German-English edition of Kant's Groundwork. It presents an authentic edition of the German text and a carefully revised version of Mary Gregor's acclaimed English translation, as well as editorial notes and a full bilingual index. It will be the edition of choice for any student or scholar who is not content with reading this central contribution to modern moral philosophy through the veil of English translation.

This book was released on 2009 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Depth of the Human Person

Download or read book The Depth of the Human Person written by Michael Welker and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2014-06-30 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together leading theologians, biblical scholars, scientists, philosophers, ethicists, and others to explore the multidimensionality and depth of the human person. Moving away from dualistic (mind-body, spirit-flesh, naturalmental) anthropologies, the book's contributors examine human personhood in terms of a complex flesh-body-mind-heart-soul-conscience-reason-spirit spectrum. The Depth of the Human Person begins with a provocative essay on the question "Why is personhood conceptually difficult?" It then rises to the challenge of relating theological contributions on the subject to various scientific explorations. Finally, the book turns to contemporary theological-ethical challenges, discussing such subjects as human dignity, embodiment, gender stereotypes, and human personhood at the edges of life. Download or read book Ratio Legis written by Verena Klappstein and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is dedicated to the theoretical problems concerning ratio legis. In the contexts of legal interpretation and legal reasoning, the two most important intellectual tools employed by lawyers, ratio legis would seem to offer an extremely powerful argument. Declaring the ratio legis of a statute can lead to a u-turn argumentation throughout the lifespan of the statute itself – in parliament, or in practice during court sessions, when it is tested against the constitution. Though the ratio legis argument is widely used, much about it warrants further investigation. On the general philosophical map there are many overlapping areas that concern different approaches to human rationality and to the problems of practical reasoning. Particular problems with ratio legis arise in connection with different perspectives on legal philosophy and theory, especially in terms of the methods that lawyers use for legal interpretation and argumentation. These problems can be further subdivided into particular aspects of activities undertaken by lawyers and officials who use the ratio legis in their work, and the underlying theories. In short, this book examines what ratio legis is, what it could be, and its practical implications.

Book The Concept of Human Dignity in Human Rights Discourse

Download or read book The Concept of Human Dignity in Human Rights Discourse written by David Kretzmer and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-08-04 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The notion of human dignity plays a central role in human rights discourse. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognition of the inherent dignity and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world. The international Covenants on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and on Civil and Political Rights state that all human rights derive from inherent dignity of the human person. Some modern constitutions include human dignity as a fundamental non-derogable right; others mention it as a right to be protected alongside other rights. It is not only lawyers concerned with human rights who have to contend with the concept of human dignity. The concept has been discussed by, inter alia, theologians, philosophers, and anthropologists. In this book leading scholars in constitutional and international law, human rights, theology, philosophy, history and classics, from various countries, discuss the concept of human dignity from differing perspectives. These perspectives help to elucidate the meaning of the concept in human rights discourse.

Book Kant and the Future of the European Enlightenment

Download or read book Kant and the Future of the European Enlightenment written by Heiner Klemme and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2009 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
