This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Street names are a many-layered thing – crystallising various eras of history and celebrating multiple generations of people. As the federal capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur’s street names reflect its rich mix of cultures and its journey from colonial past to nationhood. This encyclopedic A-to-Z guide explains the meanings and origins of KL’s street names – those named after notable persons, after prominent landmarks, after local flora and fauna, etc. Themed street names within a particular area are also identified, e.g. the cluster of streets in Taman Sri Bahtera named after traditional Malay boats. Of particular interest is the renaming of streets over the years, ranging from literal translations (e.g. “Church Road” becoming “Jalan Gereja”), to completely new names (“Parry Road” to “Jalan P Ramlee”). Drawing on extensive research into the National Archives, the authors present their wealth of findings in a concise and easy-to-read way that will engage readers of all levels.

Book Legal Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Download or read book Legal Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage written by Diyana Sulaiman and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-05-17 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines whether the protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) by Indonesia and Malaysia upheld the interests of the various communities from which the cultural heritage originates, and whether the laws recognise that cultural heritage is often shared with other states and communities. The legal classifications of various indigenous communities and the interpretations of ‘indigeneity’ in the two countries have presented problems in the context of ICH protection. The state is regarded as holding the intellectual property rights for some forms of ICH and this also posed problems in the implementation of the laws to protect the communities’ ICH. This book employs a community-based perspective and adopts a multidisciplinary approach in exploring questions of the rights to and benefits of heritage. This book will be useful for students, academics and policy makers with an interest in international law, heritage and intellectual property rights.

Book Comparative Housing Sales and Purchase Agreements Under the Malaysia Singapore and New South Wales Housing Laws UUM Press

Download or read book Comparative Housing Sales and Purchase Agreements Under the Malaysia Singapore and New South Wales Housing Laws UUM Press written by Nuarrual Hilal Md. Dahlan and published by UUM Press. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abandoned housing projects is one the major problems in housing industry in Peninsular Malaysia. The reasons leading to this problem are many. This catastrophe has caused multifarious problems to the stakeholders, particularly the purchasers who become the aggrieved parties. To date, there is no effective and once-and-for-all means to face the problems of abandoned housing projects. One of the factors which causes abandonment of housing projects in Peninsular Malaysia, is the lack of political will on part of the government to adopt an affirmative better housing delivery system such as the ‘full build then sell system’ and the introduction of a housing development insurance to face the problems of housing abandonment. This book provides in-depth analyses of the terms and conditions of the statutory standard sale and purchase agreements as enshrined in Schedules G, H, I and J of the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Regulations 1989. The objective of this book, among others, is to identify the weaknesses of the terms of the agreements, if any, which may have contributed to the problem of abandoned housing projects and their consequential troubles. As comparative analyses, the terms and conditions of the sale and purchase agreements as applicable and enforced in the Republic of Singapore and New South Wales, Australia, are chosen. The purpose of these comparative analyses is to find the terms and conditions in these foreign jurisdictions’ agreements which can be learned and adopted in the statutory standard sale and purchase agreements (Schedules G, H, I and J). It is also for the betterment of the Malaysian housing industry as a whole, and to protect the interests of the stakeholders, in particular the purchasers as against the problems of housing abandonment and its consequences.
