Book excerpt: The narrative of a little girl who would have a lasting impact on the world of basketball arises from the throbbing heart of Brazil, where the pulse of samba dances through the streets and athletics is deeply ingrained in the people's DNA. "Kamilla Cardoso: Rising Star of Brazilian Basketball" follows the extraordinary journey of an exceptionally gifted young player from Rio de Janeiro's busy streets to the esteemed courts of worldwide recognition. Kamilla Cardoso was raised in a lowly household in a Rio slum, and her life story is a tribute to the strength of tenacity and the unwavering pursuit of one's goals. She showed an instinctive talent for the game at a young age, dribbling around the cramped alleys with a ball that had seen many hours of practice. Her love of basketball was kindled in these modest beginnings by her aspirations to represent her nation on the biggest platforms. Kamilla's aspirations grew along with her skill set. She surmounted challenges and defied odds while playing youth basketball in Brazil, all the while navigating the difficult environment with unflinching drive. Scouts and coaches saw her skill, which helped her break through to the national scene and secure a coveted berth on the Brazilian young squad. However, Kamilla's path was not at all simple. She confronted difficulties head-on, fighting doubt and doubt, and relied on her unyielding commitment and her family's constant support to get her through it. She proved that everything is possible with commitment and effort, shining as a light of hope for aspiring athletes across Brazil via her sweat and tears. The expectation around Kamilla's future grew along with her celebrity. She drew parallels to the greatest basketball players of all time with her blazing agility and unmatched talent, captivating fans with each amazing performance. Her quick ascent to fame resulted in an opportunity that would forever change the course of Brazilian basketball history: competing for her nation in the Olympics. "Kamilla Cardoso: Rising Star of Brazilian Basketball" is a tribute to the human spirit's tenacity and the transforming potential of sports, not merely an account of athletic accomplishment. You will be motivated by Kamilla's story as she goes from modest beginnings to global fame, learning along the way what it really means to be passionate, persistent, and to strive for greatness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops and amplifies the emerging concept of diversity intelligence, which is the capability of leaders to recognize the value of workplace diversity and to use this information to guide thinking and behavior. Organization leaders need diversity intelligence to better interact with the changing demographics in the US and the global economy, by embracing differences as strengths rather than weaknesses. Without a clear understanding of diversity, leaders are not fully equipped to realize organizational goals through all employees. The author highlights the importance of reimagining diversity and changing perspectives while integrating it into leadership and career development plans alongside intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence, and cultural intelligence. In order to fully motivate diverse employees, leaders must first be able to recognize differences between themselves and others without it being an obstacle to performance. This edition addresses new topics related to allyship and anti-racism, and discusses how these concepts can sometimes hinder diversity efforts. This book fits in the literature in areas of leadership and business value and aims to satisfy the need for solutions to why diversity training and management efforts continue to fall short of stated goals within organizations. It is a window into how leaders can reflect on their actions and behaviors to effectively implement new diversity strategies, and is an essential read for HR researchers, professionals, consultants, and managers of global operating companies.

Book Kamilla Cardoso

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kamilla Cardoso's odyssey spans from the dynamic marketplaces of Montes Claros, Brazil, to the elegant palaces of South Carolina, transforming into a quasi-dramatic epic. At six feet seven inches tall, she exudes unwavering energy and a powerful presence. With each turn and play, Kamilla redefines the game; she is more than simply a skilled basketball player. The core of Kamilla's story, which is a narrative intertwined with grit, elegance, and grandeur, is captured in The Heart of a Gamecock. She started her basketball journey at Tennessee's Hamilton Heights Christian Academy, where she excelled in the sport rather than merely playing. In her final year, she was not just a star but a potential supernova, averaging an incredible 24.1 points, 15.8 rebounds, and 9.2 blocks per game. Kamilla had an incredible climb during her college career at Syracuse, where she won two awards for best defensive player and best offensive player: ACC Freshman of the Year and Co-Defensive Player of the Year. However, it was her move to South Carolina that changed everything and showed how profoundly she could alter the game. Kamilla's story went from remarkable to legendary in South Carolina. She was a crucial component off the bench in the Gamecocks' national title campaign during her sophomore year. During her junior year, she solidified her position as the sixth woman in the SEC and earned recognition as a second-team All-SEC selection, thereby leaving a lasting legacy in the league's history. But Kamilla Cardoso's inspirational tale goes beyond her sporting accomplishments. She embodies the spirit of the Gamecocks with her unshakable devotion, unwavering passion, and unmatched love of the game. She inspires a generation of young athletes to aim high by doing more than simply playing basketball; she's living and breathing it. Kamilla Cardoso is more than simply a basketball sensation; she's a ray of hope, an example of the strength of aspirations, and a reminder that true greatness isn't measured in points scored but rather in the hearts one touches along the journey.

Book Reshaping Graduate Education Through Innovation and Experiential Learning

Download or read book Reshaping Graduate Education Through Innovation and Experiential Learning written by Jenkins, Toby S. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-10-16 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discussions on the importance and impact of pedagogical practice on students as whole persons are often concentrated on the P-12 or undergraduate learning experience. In higher education, many institutions do an outstanding job of complicating the undergraduate classroom to include civic engagement, community-based learning, education abroad, social action, and project-based learning. But, what about the graduate classroom? While there are indeed numerous graduate programs that push students to interact with strong, meaningful, difficult, and sometimes harsh facts, scholarship, and ideologies, the instructional methods have largely remained stagnant. New methods of constructing deep and meaningful learning in graduate education is essential for the transformation and continued evolution of graduate school instruction. Reshaping Graduate Education Through Innovation and Experiential Learning is a crucial reference book that offers practice-based reflections on efforts to infuse creativity, social action, engaged learning, or other creative interventions into the graduate classroom. The book includes personal narratives that are grounded in pedagogical perspectives from graduate school instructors who share their experiences with innovative and transformative teaching practices. The goal of the book is to encourage graduate school professors to engage social justice education as something to be experienced and practiced in their courses and not just as a concept to be studied. As such, the book covers topics such as self-directed learning, counseling, and community mapping. It is ideal for graduate-level instructors in the field of education and other related social science areas, as well as junior faculty as they establish a teaching practice or veteran faculty seeking creative transformation.

Book One Move to Better Golf

Download or read book One Move to Better Golf written by Carl Lohren and published by Echo Point Books & Media, LLC. This book was released on 2022-06-29 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1966, Carl Lohren made a breakthrough, and One Move to Better Golf explains it all. Highly regarded as an instructor and player in the New York Metropolitan PGA Section, Lohren formed his ideal golf swing after years of studying master golfer Ben Hogan. His eyes were opened at the 1964 Carling Open when he watched Hogan select an 8-iron and take a short swing on a 150 yard shot. To Lohren's surprise, Hogan's ball exploded off the clubface and wound up ten feet from the pin! This inspired Lohren to start his swing by turning his left shoulder as Hogan had. Immediately upon doing so, Carl's ball flight took on a different look: it had a piercing trajectory, with plenty of carry and roll. Carl continued to refine his method, so that in 1968, he won the NY State PGA Championship in a playoff over former Ryder Cup player Bill Collins. In One Move to Better Golf, Lohren explains a simple method of starting the golf swing with one move that incorporates the fundamentals. In doing so, he gives you a framework of confidence for your swing. He also provides students with a complete methodology of the physical and mental preparation necessary for effective shotmaking. Whether you are a low or high handicapper, One Move to Better Golf will give you a clear understanding of the total golf swing.

Download or read book Indian Spectacle written by Jennifer Guiliano and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2015-04-02 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amid controversies surrounding the team mascot and brand of the Washington Redskins in the National Football League and the use of mascots by K–12 schools, Americans demonstrate an expanding sensitivity to the pejorative use of references to Native Americans by sports organizations at all levels. In Indian Spectacle, Jennifer Guiliano exposes the anxiety of American middle-class masculinity in relation to the growing commercialization of collegiate sports and the indiscriminate use of Indian identity as mascots. Indian Spectacle explores the ways in which white, middle-class Americans have consumed narratives of masculinity, race, and collegiate athletics through the lens of Indian-themed athletic identities, mascots, and music. Drawing on a cross-section of American institutions of higher education, Guiliano investigates the role of sports mascots in the big business of twentieth-century American college football in order to connect mascotry to expressions of community identity, individual belonging, stereotyped imagery, and cultural hegemony. Against a backdrop of the current level of the commercialization of collegiate sports—where the collective revenue of the fifteen highest grossing teams in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has well surpassed one billion dollars—Guiliano recounts the history of the creation and spread of mascots and university identities as something bound up in the spectacle of halftime performance, the growth of collegiate competition, the influence of mass media, and how athletes, coaches, band members, spectators, university alumni, faculty, and administrators, artists, writers, and members of local communities all have contributed to the dissemination of ideas of Indianness that is rarely rooted in native people’s actual lives.
