Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. -- Art history, one of the liveliest and most exciting branches of knowledge of our times, emphasizes the need to continually re-examine, re-evaluate and re-interpret its primary ingredient - art works of the past. From fresh perspectives in the light of current information, thought and theory about these works, to the discourse of knowledge that surrounds a work of art and is continually adapted. Women, Paintings, Stories / transformation of the image of 'women' in Turkish painting within the modernization era, is the product of just such an inclination and re-interpretation. In this exhibition and catalogue of more than fifty works chosen from a variety of public institutions and private collections spanning the era from the Meşrutiyet / Second Constitution through the Republic, a voyage through the years was embarked upon, during which, the Turkish art of painting underwent a movement towards contemporaneity, within the framework of an exceptional and extremely meaningful theme, a reinterpretation of the transformation of the image of 'women'.

Book Xenophobia in the Media

Download or read book Xenophobia in the Media written by Senthan Selvarajah and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-01-31 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through its global and critical perspectives, this book brings together knowledge, ideas, and tools to understand the problems and identify effective solutions, best practices and alternative approaches to combat xenophobia in the media and build tolerance and social cohesion. Although various studies have been conducted on the extent to which the media construct xenophobic discourse against immigrants and refugees and how they represent immigrants, there exists a research lacuna as to the dynamics of the xenophobia construction in the media, the effect of xenophobic discourse of the media and its function, the nexus between xenophobia construction of the media and the social, economic and political conditions, and the impact of the xenophobic discourse of the media on immigrants and host communities. This book adds knowledge and empirical evidence to fill this research gap. This book will be an important resource for journalists, scholars and students of media and communication studies, journalism, political science, sociology, and anyone covering issues of race and racism, human rights, immigration and refugees.

Book Current Debates in Sociology Philosophy

Download or read book Current Debates in Sociology Philosophy written by Şükrü Aslan and published by IJOPEC. This book was released on with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this book focus on some areas where classical sociology usually leaves out. In this respect, it is placed in a channel determined by critical sociological approach. This channel is an area where thousands of different forms of sociality and acquisitions are collected (relations, tensions, reflections, conflicts, compromises, change, transformation, etc.). The sociology of everyday life is also discusses, understands and explains the area of socialites that remain in this area. It must be noted that the sociology of everyday life not only reveals the place of individuals within the community, but also the place of sociality in "society". The sociological articles of the book in your hand are an example of this approach and initiative. In this book you will find two philosophical articles dealing with sociological articles from a more theoretical ground. In the modern world we will see that the current philosophy is not as archaic as it might seem, but in fact it has important potentials to understand this reified world.

Download or read book The Turkish Muse written by Talat S. Halman and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2006-06-26 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Turkish Muse: Views and Reviews, 1960s-1990s, collects Talat S. Halman’s book reviews written in English and, read chronologically, provides a unique perspective on the development of Turkish literature and criticism during the formative and later years of the Turkish Republic. The new genres adopted from Europe and, to a lesser extent, from the United States include the novel, the short story, the stage play, and the essay. The reviews collected in this volume reflect the way in which these genres developed and matured within their new milieu of Turkish letters. Establishing each book in its literary, social, and cultural Turkish context, Halman then addresses the work’s more international or universal importance. Written over a period of four decades, these reviews illuminate the careers of many writers from their early work to their rise as leading Turkish poets, novelists, and dramatists—Ilhan Berk, Melih Cevdet Anday, Güngör Dilmen, Fazil Husnu Daglarca, and Yasar Kemal, to name just a few. More recent reviews discuss the work of such important figures as Hilmi Yavuz and Orhan Pamuk.

Book Gender Diversity and Inclusion at Work

Download or read book Gender Diversity and Inclusion at Work written by Zeynep Özsoy and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-28 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to investigate gender diversity practices and discourse developed by listed companies in Turkey. It pursues this aim by advancing knowledge about business relations affecting workplace gender diversity. The research builds on Bourdieu’s field approach and implements a Thematic Analysis following Braun and Clarke’s (2006) guidelines. The findings of the book are based on data collected from unstructured interviews and secondary sources such as the official documents of national and international organizations, newspapers, legislation, and web pages of the related parties. The findings suggest that the implementation of gender diversity practices may require a transformation of perspective and the conditions regarding the political, economic, and cultural realm for realization of a pervasive movement. Due to the conservative and patriarchal culture, authoritarian rule and neoliberal policies, gender diversity and inclusion are not seen as issues that should be resolved through the commitment and collaboration of a field. Consequently, diversity management practices are instrumentalized by the business community as a means for corporate communication and image building rather than actively building a diverse workforce.

Book Police Reform in Turkey

Download or read book Police Reform in Turkey written by Funda Hulagu and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-28 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How has the supposedly liberalizing project of police reform in Turkey become central to the increasingly authoritarian regime of Erdogan's AKP Party? Engaging political theory and a gender studies perspective, this book traces the implementation of security sector reform in Turkey, showing how various agents, including Islamist policy-makers, Turkish police and the women's movement in Turkey have contributed to and resisted growing police powers. A critical study which also employs case studies, this is a timely intervention on the 'authoritarian turn' in Turkey and contributes to a growing number of studies of neoliberalism and security in the context of liberal internationalism. Produced in association with the British Institute at Ankara

The volume examines whether a gender equality regime exists and looks into the Turkish attempt at compliance. This groundbreaking study also includes research on the women's movement in Turkey, its discourses and its relationship with the state from the 1980s onwards, during which time multilateral and bilateral donors, and the European Union came to exert more influence, and new civil society partnerships were formed with the state.
