Book K Theory for Operator Algebras

Download or read book K Theory for Operator Algebras written by Bruce Blackadar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: K -Theory has revolutionized the study of operator algebras in the last few years. As the primary component of the subject of "noncommutative topol ogy," K -theory has opened vast new vistas within the structure theory of C* algebras, as well as leading to profound and unexpected applications of opera tor algebras to problems in geometry and topology. As a result, many topolo gists and operator algebraists have feverishly begun trying to learn each others' subjects, and it appears certain that these two branches of mathematics have become deeply and permanently intertwined. Despite the fact that the whole subject is only about a decade old, operator K -theory has now reached a state of relative stability. While there will undoubtedly be many more revolutionary developments and applications in the future, it appears the basic theory has more or less reached a "final form." But because of the newness of the theory, there has so far been no comprehensive treatment of the subject. It is the ambitious goal of these notes to fill this gap. We will develop the K -theory of Banach algebras, the theory of extensions of C*-algebras, and the operator K -theory of Kasparov from scratch to its most advanced aspects. We will not treat applications in detail; however, we will outline the most striking of the applications to date in a section at the end, as well as mentioning others at suitable points in the text.

Book Index Theory and Operator Algebras

Download or read book Index Theory and Operator Algebras written by Jeffrey Stephen Fox and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1993 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of papers by leading researchers provides a broad picture of current research directions in index theory. Based on lectures presented at the NSF-CBMS Regional Conference on $K$-Homology and Index Theory, held in August, 1991 at the University of Colorado at Boulder, the book provides both a careful exposition of new perspectives in classical index theory and an introduction to currently active areas of the field. Presented here are two new proofs of the classical Atiyah-Singer Index Theorem, as well as index theorems for manifolds with boundary and open manifolds. Index theory for semi-simple $p$-adic groups and the geometry of discrete groups are also discussed. Throughout the book, the application of operator algebras emerges as a central theme. Aimed at graduate students and researchers, this book is suitable as a text for an advanced graduate course on index theory.

Book excerpt: The proceedings volume from the March 1996 conference is dedicated to the late Bob Thomason, one of the leading research mathematicians specializing in algebraic K-theory. Twelve contributions include research papers treated in the lectures at the conference, articles inspired by those lectures, an exposition of Thomason's famous result concerning the relationship between algebraic K-theory and etale cohomology, and an exposition explaining and elaborating upon unpublished work of O. Gabber on Bloch-Ogus-Gersten type resolutions in K-theory and algebraic geometry. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings from the International Conference on Operator Algebras and Operator Theory held at the East China Normal University in Shanghai (China). Participants in the conference ranged from graduate students to postdocs to leading experts who came from around the world. Topics covered were $C*$-algebras, von Neumann algebras, non-self-adjoint operator algebras, wavelets, operator spaces and other related areas. This work consists of contributions from invited speakers and some mathematicians who were unable to attend. It presents important mathematical ideas while maintaining the uniqueness and excitement of this very successful event.

Book Lie Algebras Vertex Operator Algebras and Related Topics

Download or read book Lie Algebras Vertex Operator Algebras and Related Topics written by Katrina Barron and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the conference on Lie Algebras, Vertex Operator Algebras, and Related Topics, celebrating the 70th birthday of James Lepowsky and Robert Wilson, held from August 14–18, 2015, at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana. Since their seminal work in the 1970s, Lepowsky and Wilson, their collaborators, their students, and those inspired by their work, have developed an amazing body of work intertwining the fields of Lie algebras, vertex algebras, number theory, theoretical physics, quantum groups, the representation theory of finite simple groups, and more. The papers presented here include recent results and descriptions of ongoing research initiatives representing the broad influence and deep connections brought about by the work of Lepowsky and Wilson and include a contribution by Yi-Zhi Huang summarizing some major open problems in these areas, in particular as they pertain to two-dimensional conformal field theory.

Book Selfadjoint and Nonselfadjoint Operator Algebras and Operator Theory

Download or read book Selfadjoint and Nonselfadjoint Operator Algebras and Operator Theory written by Robert S. Doran and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1991 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains papers presented at the NSF/CBMS Regional Conference on Coordinates in Operator Algebras, held at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth in May 1990. During the conference, in addition to a series of ten lectures by Paul S Muhly (which will be published in a CBMS Regional Conference Series volume), there were twenty-eight lectures delivered by conference participants on a broad range of topics of current interest in operator algebras and operator theory. This volume contains slightly expanded versions of most of those lectures. Participants were encouraged to bring open problems to the conference, and, as a result, there are over one hundred problems and questions scattered throughout this volume. Readers will appreciate this book for the overview it provides of current topics and methods of operator algebras and operator theory.

Book From the Basic Homotopy Lemma to the Classification of C algebras

Download or read book From the Basic Homotopy Lemma to the Classification of C algebras written by Huaxin Lin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-08-11 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines some recent developments in the theory of -algebras, which are algebras of operators on Hilbert spaces. An elementary introduction to the technical part of the theory is given via a basic homotopy lemma concerning a pair of almost commuting unitaries. The book presents an outline of the background as well as some recent results of the classification of simple amenable -algebras, otherwise known as the Elliott program. This includes some stable uniqueness theorems and a revisiting of Bott maps via stable homotopy. Furthermore, -theory related rotation maps are introduced. The book is based on lecture notes from the CBMS lecture sequence at the University of Wyoming in the summer of 2015.
