Book They Thought He Was Safe

Download or read book They Thought He Was Safe written by P.D. Workman and published by pd workman. This book was released on 1901 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From USA Today Bestselling Author, P.D. Workman! Too many missing men Zachary Goldman, PI is deeply flawed, unable to overcome much of his traumatic past, yet he is always ready to defend the underdog and right injustices. When Pat asked him to look into the disappearance of an illegal, Zachary agreed to take it, but didn’t expect to find anything more than a man who had returned to his family or fled immigration officials. But the more he digs, the more missing men Zachary discovers, and it quickly becomes apparent that the disappearance that was deemed by the police not to be suspicious was just the tip of the iceberg. As the body count grows, so does Zachary’s determination to bring the killer to justice, no matter what the cost. The trouble is, this case might cost him dearly. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Having a serial killer targeting a vulnerable segment of the population should give you an idea that this is not a “cozy” murder mystery but be assured that, despite its gritty subject matter, there is no graphic violence, no explicit sexual material, and no excessively coarse language. This completely captivating story held my attention throughout and offered more than enough thrills and chills to ensure that I will absolutely go back and read the previous installments as well as follow this series as it moves forward. Without reservation, I recommend this book to any enthusiast of the detective/private investigator type of mystery stories. Zachary Goldman, Private Investigator, is flawed with a capital F. Shattered by the tragedies of his own life, he will somehow still manage to pick himself up and dig just a little bit deeper than anyone else to find the vital clues. Maybe being broken makes it easier for others who have faced tragedy to trust him. Walk with Zachary as he solves cases that will stretch his abilities to the limit. Even with his own life in shambles, Zachary Goldman is still the one you want on the case. Investigate this P.I. mystery now!

Book excerpt: Abandoned By Her Mother Ronit was six years old when her mother left her and her four year old sister for India to follow a cult guru. Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, whose commune was responsible for the largest biological attack on U.S. soil, preached that children were hindrances and encouraged sterilizations among his followers. Luckily Ronit's father, who'd left the family the previous year, stepped up and brought the girls to live with him first in Newark, New Jersey, and later in Flushing, Queens. On the surface, his nurturing was the balm Ronit sought, but she soon paid a second emotional price, taking on the role of partner and confidant to him, and substitute mother to her sister. By the end of her childhood, Ronit would discover she had lost her mother and the close and trusting relationship she once had with her father. Though they have had a relationship now for years, she grappled with the toll her mother's leaving took, measuring her self-worth by her absence. When She Comes Back is the story of a family trying to find itself, grownups who don't know how to be adults, and the pain a child feels when she discovers that her love for her mother is not enough to make that parent stay. When She Comes Back is also a story of resilience and reconciliation, how rejection by the most important person in Ronit's life ultimately led to an unflagging commitment to, and love for her own children.

Book The Politics of the Musical Theatre Screen Adaptation

Download or read book The Politics of the Musical Theatre Screen Adaptation written by Dominic Broomfield-McHugh and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-02-28 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "From Show Boat (1936) to The Sound of Music (1965) and from Grease (1978) to Chicago (2002), many of the most beloved film musicals in Hollywood history originated as Broadway shows. And in the three years since the original publication of the chapters in this volume (as The Oxford Handbook of Musical Theatre Screen Adaptations, 2019) the phenomenon has persisted, with new adaptations such as Cats, In the Heights, Tick, Tick...Boom!, Dear Evan Hansen, and Spielberg's remake of West Side Story. Yet in general, the number of screen adaptations of Broadway musicals and operettas is far greater than the number that have met with success, especially both critical and commercial success (i.e., good reviews and a profit at the box office). This is all the more surprising since Hollywood tended almost (if not quite) exclusively to buy the rights to musicals that had been successful on the stage as a means of guaranteeing a profitable outcome. After all, musicals that had already enjoyed long runs and nationwide productions on the stage ought to have a readymade audience. One might also think that because the authors had puzzled over the individual challenges posed by such properties in their stage incarnations, it ought to be easier to turn them into strong film musicals. But for every West Side Story there were several Finian's Rainbows, Man of La Manchas, and Carousels: movies that simply did not do justice to the 'enchanted evenings' these works provided in their stage incarnations"--
