Book Toy Soldiers Vol 1 Of Monsters And Men

Download or read book Toy Soldiers Vol 1 Of Monsters And Men written by D.D Ward and published by D.D Ward. This book was released on 2024-02-09 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We know what we know. We know that one plus one will always equal two. That what goes up must inevitably come down. That each day, from the east, the sun will without exception rise and that, later in the same day, it is then destined to set in the west, crossing the horizon to repeat its endless cycle anew. We know that despite the sun’s setting, the only monsters to lurk in the night are those conjured by our own imaginations or anxieties. But what happens when what we know comes into conflict with the reality standing in front of us? When the Boogieman no longer stalks in the nightmares of children, but among the streets and sanctuaries of all humankind? What depths would a man sink to in order to confront such a reality? And, perhaps, most terrifying of all…what is a man willing to become, in order to fight back?

Book American Military History Volume 1

Download or read book American Military History Volume 1 written by Army Center of Military History and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-05 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American Military History provides the United States Army-in particular, its young officers, NCOs, and cadets-with a comprehensive but brief account of its past. The Center of Military History first published this work in 1956 as a textbook for senior ROTC courses. Since then it has gone through a number of updates and revisions, but the primary intent has remained the same. Support for military history education has always been a principal mission of the Center, and this new edition of an invaluable history furthers that purpose. The history of an active organization tends to expand rapidly as the organization grows larger and more complex. The period since the Vietnam War, at which point the most recent edition ended, has been a significant one for the Army, a busy period of expanding roles and missions and of fundamental organizational changes. In particular, the explosion of missions and deployments since 11 September 2001 has necessitated the creation of additional, open-ended chapters in the story of the U.S. Army in action. This first volume covers the Army's history from its birth in 1775 to the eve of World War I. By 1917, the United States was already a world power. The Army had sent large expeditionary forces beyond the American hemisphere, and at the beginning of the new century Secretary of War Elihu Root had proposed changes and reforms that within a generation would shape the Army of the future. But world war-global war-was still to come. The second volume of this new edition will take up that story and extend it into the twenty-first century and the early years of the war on terrorism and includes an analysis of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq up to January 2009.

Book A Time For Soldiers A Civil War Journey Volume 1

Download or read book A Time For Soldiers A Civil War Journey Volume 1 written by James Edwards Jr. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today is May 1, 1917. Word has just come to me that several local boys have been drafted to fight the war in Europe. This one is called "The Great War." It's been raging since August 1914. President Wilson asked the Congress for a declaration of war last month. He got it. Hundreds of thousands have died already. Now, many of our own good boys will die. War is a chronic condition, and stupid. I was that young when I first went off to war, fifty-seven years ago. I was twenty-one, about the same age as these kids. I had no idea that I was entering my own personal season in hell when I joined up with a New York volunteer regiment. These young men are about to march off to another war, another cause. Many will die uselessly on torn-up battlefields that nobody will remember except the men who fight there. I still see those faces in the distance, on a hillside at a place called Gettysburg. I see myself, young, but no longer a boy. My innocence was a façade. War is butchery, and I experienced it close-up. I was part of a monster, trained to overwhelm and destroy my enemy, my brother. By the end of the war, I was good at it. It fit me well. I was a seasoned veteran. Killing had become second nature. Experience being the best teacher, I learned well. In April 1865, I knew what I was. The question had become, what was I going to be? The thought once occurred to me that maybe I should not have survived the war, that war should devour its own and leave the remnant in peace.

Book North Carolina s Civil War Soldiers Volume 1 1861

Download or read book North Carolina s Civil War Soldiers Volume 1 1861 written by Barry Munson and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-12-12 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Material for this volume was taken from W. W. Holden's Raleigh newspaper, the North Carolina Standard. These articles from the year 1861, written by soldiers and citizens who sent letters and telegrams for publication, are the raw material of history, presented without an historian's comments or revisions. During this period newspapers, both, Southern and Northern, relied heavily on citizens to submit first-hand accounts of the conflict. Unfortunately, Southern newspapers were far behind the Northern ones in employing professional war correspondents to record the conflict. This made Southern citizen journalists extremely critical to the spreading the war news across the Southern states.

Book Wasted Years Wasted Lives Volume 1

Download or read book Wasted Years Wasted Lives Volume 1 written by Ken Wharton and published by Helion and Company. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past several years, Ken Wharton, himself a former soldier, has been prolific in his coverage of the Troubles, which spread their tentacles far from the streets, and fields of Northern Ireland. Over 4,000 people died in or as a consequence of them and it cost the lives of over 1,300 British soldiers - a fact which is unacknowledged by the MOD - and the lives of over 300 policemen and women. This is Ken's sixth book about the period and he draws on meticulous and detailed research, first-hand testimony of the soldiers who trod the same streets as himself, and an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the near 30-year period of murder, violence and civil war. The first-hand accounts help us to understand and examine the fears of the young soldiers who patrolled the dangerous streets of the Ardoyne and New Lodge, of Andersonstown, Turf Lodge and Ballymurphy and of the Creggan in Londonderry and the Derrybeg in Newry. He looks at the Loyalist paramilitaries and treats their sectarianism and mindless murder with the same contempt with which he treats the Republicans. He does not mince words about the Irish-Americans and their political stooges in the US Government, judicial system and the ordinary '7th generation Irishmen of the American East Coast.' This is a book not just for soldiers, but for anyone who wishes to look back and try to understand the madness inflicted upon several generations of innocent Irish and British people. In years to come, historians - both social and military - will reflect on this period of insanity with a greater knowledge than hitherto. If you wish to know how it felt to be an innocent sectarian victim, or an off-duty soldier or policeman or a young lad from Leeds, Liverpool or London hard targeting through the Lower Falls, then this book is a must read.

This book was released on 2011-12-15 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Government must show how the excellent medical care being delivered to injured service personnel will continue long after the memory of the Afghan Operation fades. This report, which gives praise to the first class medical treatment provided for the Armed Forces, questions whether the support for injured personnel will be sustainable over the long term. In particular, the committee is concerned about the number of people who may go on to develop severe and life-limiting, physical, mental health, alcohol or neurological problems. There is still a question mark over whether the Government as a whole fully understands the likely future demands and related costs
