Book JUST ONE MORE DRINK

Download or read book JUST ONE MORE DRINK written by CHELSEA PAGE and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Started thirteen years ago, while in a psychiatric hospital for suicide attempts, this book takes the reader through a long journey from an abusive childhood with a raging alcoholic father, into the crazy, insane world of alcoholism, drug addiction and mental illness. It is the life story of how one young woman who destroyed two marriages, many relationships, almost lost her children and eventually her sanity, chose to rise above her many difficulties and reach out for help. In taking the first step of admitting herself to a psychiatric hospital, she was able to admit that she was an alcoholic, drug addict, bipolar and depressed, and had been for many years. Eventually, it explained everything about her past behavior and why she did the things she did. The answer started to become clear. Hope became serenity, serenity turned into acceptance, acceptance developed into peace and the peace has led to an immense sense of joy and contentment. It took that one first step. I hope and pray that all who read this book can discover for themselves that anything is possible, that life is worth living, and you, too, can have this joy, today, and one day at a time.

Book Raw Food for Beginners

Download or read book Raw Food for Beginners written by Jennifer Faris and published by Serhiy Karpov. This book was released on 2017-08-04 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raw foodism as a diet has been known since the ancient times. Our ancestors were eating fresh food and felt great. Before the dawn of the Paleolithic age, people were eating raw plant food and later included animal products into their diet. Now, human diet mostly consists of semi-finished products and fast food. So, what exactly, raw foodism gives to a man? As an individual diet concept, raw foodism was formed in the 20th century. The spread of raw foodism was favored by mass diseases of civilization – obesity, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Thus, raw foodism began to cause myths about the things which are dangerous in it, that some raw foodists died from a lack of essential substances, that raw foodists gave birth to a disabled person. At the same time, raw foodists never miss the chance to speculate whether the raw foodism is useful and to which extent. In my book, I will not cover the theory of raw foodism in the form in which adherents perceive it. I am going to pay more attention to some obviously false notions, offered as a substitute for the existing knowledge or experience regarding raw foodism. We’ll also consider the order of the real thoughts concerning the advantages of raw foodism. In reviewing some facts, I used quotes from raw foodists’ experience, similar articles and books with slightly edited style and grammar. Free Gift Inside ;) Would You Like To Know More? Book excerpt: The New York Times–bestselling author of Killer: The Autobiography of a Mafia Hit Man reveals the true story of his most harrowing contract murder. “Joey the Hit Man” was a Bronx-born hired assassin who achieved widespread notoriety after writing a bestselling memoir and appearing on the David Susskind show. In this “down-to-earth realistic account,” Joey tells the riveting story behind the strangest of his thirty-eight kills (Los Angeles Free Press). In the fall of 1969, a public execution in an Italian restaurant in Brooklyn earned Joey a mention in the New York Daily News and a twenty-grand payout from the mob. On the surface, his next job seemed just as routine: The bosses suspected their trusted numbers controller, Joe Squillante, was skimming the nightly bets to settle personal debts. Joey gave Squillante two weeks to live. But there was one problem: Squillante once had a hit out on Joey too. No clueless patsy, #29 was an unpredictable bull’s-eye, and the contract holder was a dangerous mobster with a personal grudge against Joey. Taking the job meant entering into a game of predator and prey as nerve-racking as the cock of a .38 hammer. From first tail to all-night stakeouts to the intricate planning of the final confrontation, this is the shockingly detailed first-person account of a professional hit. Full of twists, turns, and double crosses, Hit #29 “tells it like it is” and delivers an unforgettable insider’s view of the mob (Kirkus Reviews).

Book Thinking in Systems

    Book Details:
  • Author : Donella Meadows
  • Publisher : Chelsea Green Publishing
  • Release : 2008-12-03
  • ISBN : 1603581480
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book Thinking in Systems written by Donella Meadows and published by Chelsea Green Publishing. This book was released on 2008-12-03 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic book on systems thinking—with more than half a million copies sold worldwide! "This is a fabulous book... This book opened my mind and reshaped the way I think about investing."—Forbes "Thinking in Systems is required reading for anyone hoping to run a successful company, community, or country. Learning how to think in systems is now part of change-agent literacy. And this is the best book of its kind."—Hunter Lovins In the years following her role as the lead author of the international bestseller, Limits to Growth—the first book to show the consequences of unchecked growth on a finite planet—Donella Meadows remained a pioneer of environmental and social analysis until her untimely death in 2001. Thinking in Systems is a concise and crucial book offering insight for problem solving on scales ranging from the personal to the global. Edited by the Sustainability Institute’s Diana Wright, this essential primer brings systems thinking out of the realm of computers and equations and into the tangible world, showing readers how to develop the systems-thinking skills that thought leaders across the globe consider critical for 21st-century life. Some of the biggest problems facing the world—war, hunger, poverty, and environmental degradation—are essentially system failures. They cannot be solved by fixing one piece in isolation from the others, because even seemingly minor details have enormous power to undermine the best efforts of too-narrow thinking. While readers will learn the conceptual tools and methods of systems thinking, the heart of the book is grander than methodology. Donella Meadows was known as much for nurturing positive outcomes as she was for delving into the science behind global dilemmas. She reminds readers to pay attention to what is important, not just what is quantifiable, to stay humble, and to stay a learner. In a world growing ever more complicated, crowded, and interdependent, Thinking in Systems helps readers avoid confusion and helplessness, the first step toward finding proactive and effective solutions.

Book Just One More Hand

Download or read book Just One More Hand written by Ellen Mutari and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-02-02 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just One More Hand tells a story that workers all over can relate to: an industry that promised a solid and stable livelihood is being transformed by competitive pressures, causing employees to lose their economic footing. What seemed like a good job one day becomes a bad job the next. Incorporating the real experiences of casino employees, the book demonstrates the difficulties for local communities that are building new casinos in the hopes of luring tourists. Local communities placing all their chips on casinos as an economic development strategy face increasingly long odds. Life stories of individual workers in Atlantic City are explored in the context of the history of the city and the now-global gaming industry. With more and more casinos competing for customers, employees are feeling the brunt of cost-cutting measures, including the wholesale closure of some casinos. While long-time employees are fighting against concessions and wage stagnation, younger workers juggle multiple part-time and seasonal jobs at several casinos. Policy makers hoping to offset these trends are trying to rebrand Atlantic City for a younger, hipper, and more well-to-do clientele using public-private partnerships. Unfortunately, scant attention is being paid to the core issue in economic development—the need for sustainable livelihoods and meaningful work. Here, Ellen Mutari and Deborah Figart explore the realities of the industry and the lives and challenges the workers within it are facing.
