Book JUST ONE MORE DRINK

Download or read book JUST ONE MORE DRINK written by CHELSEA PAGE and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Started thirteen years ago, while in a psychiatric hospital for suicide attempts, this book takes the reader through a long journey from an abusive childhood with a raging alcoholic father, into the crazy, insane world of alcoholism, drug addiction and mental illness. It is the life story of how one young woman who destroyed two marriages, many relationships, almost lost her children and eventually her sanity, chose to rise above her many difficulties and reach out for help. In taking the first step of admitting herself to a psychiatric hospital, she was able to admit that she was an alcoholic, drug addict, bipolar and depressed, and had been for many years. Eventually, it explained everything about her past behavior and why she did the things she did. The answer started to become clear. Hope became serenity, serenity turned into acceptance, acceptance developed into peace and the peace has led to an immense sense of joy and contentment. It took that one first step. I hope and pray that all who read this book can discover for themselves that anything is possible, that life is worth living, and you, too, can have this joy, today, and one day at a time.

Book excerpt: This book gives an insight into the life of a carer, Carol, whose loved one, Paul, was addicted to alcohol. Carol never gave up hope that Paul would receive treatment and become the person he always wanted to be. But it was not to be. Paul died at the age of forty-two from cirrhosis of the liver. In her book, Carol concentrates more on how loved ones can get the support they need while dealing with their loved ones addiction. She details her journey through Pauls addiction and why she founded the charity Footprints, which offered support to others in a situation similar to hers. She talks honestly about her feelings of frustration, anger, and sadness but also is honest about feeling trapped in a relationship, not knowing in which direction to move, the many relapses that happen, the trips to the ER, the suicide attempts, and the violence. But she also shows compassion for the drinker, who is also trapped in the addiction, not knowing what life will be like without their nonjudgmental friend, the bottle of alcohol.

Book The Compassionate Universe

Download or read book The Compassionate Universe written by Eknath Easwaran and published by Nilgiri Press. This book was released on 2022-01-04 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical and inspiring approach to tackling our environmental crisis, from a master spiritual teacher. We can heal our earth by choosing a simpler, more fulfilling lifestyle, as trustees of a compassionate universe. Eknath Easwaran presents a penetrating analysis of the spiritual roots of our current predicament and offers a realistic and hopeful way forward. Each of us has a role to play in making wise choices, and each of us can genuinely make a difference. Drawing inspiration and insight from Mahatma Gandhi, Saint Francis, and his own experience of living in the East and the West, Easwaran shows the connections between individual thoughts and actions that move beyond consumerism to the unity of life. Mahatma Gandhi formulated a series of diagnoses of our seemingly perpetual state of crisis, which he called “the seven social sins”: knowledge without character, science without humanity, wealth without work, commerce without morality, politics without principles, pleasure without conscience, and worship without self-sacrifice. Easwaran explores each of these diagnoses in turn and presents an alternative hypothesis of who we are and how we fit into the universe. This is ecology as a great adventure, filled with the challenges and rewards of inner growth. Easwaran tells us that “once we open our eyes to cooperation, artistry, thrift, and compassion, we begin to see thousands of little things we can do to help restore the environment – and restore dignity and deeper fulfillment to our own lives.” Eknath Easwaran is renowned as a teacher of meditation and for his translations of the Indian scriptures. His writings express timeless spiritual insights and are illustrated by stories from East and West. His books reflect two cultures: India, where he grew up in a self-supporting agrarian village, and the United States, where he taught and lectured for over thirty years. His early experiences of living in harmony with nature, his firsthand acquaintance with Gandhi’s India, and his long familiarity with an American audience have resulted in this book: a deeply thoughtful examination of our present situation, and a blueprint for living as trustees of a compassionate universe, in a world that we would want our children and grandchildren to inherit.

His slide down the slippery slope to personal and professional oblivion begins when Victoria files a bar grievance falsely accusing him of unconsensual sex. Why would Victoria do this? When Kevin finally learns it is one of his so-called friends, who, has embarked on a plan to exclude him as one of the attorneys chosen to sue the tobacco companies, he does not just get even, he wreaks revenge through nerve wrenching chicanery, that paradoxically leaves him close to Victoria. He feels vindicated, but is he? Unsure about himself and his life, he leaves his hometown to travel indefinitely through Europe, only to be drawn back to East Bay after a few months. But will he ever have back what he has lost? Book Memoirs of an Ordinary Guy

Download or read book Memoirs of an Ordinary Guy written by Daniel Stuart Olmes and published by Post Hill Press. This book was released on 2023-01-24 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By most measures, Daniel Olmes is an ordinary guy—but he’s learned how to live an extraordinary life. In Memoirs of an Ordinary Guy, Daniel asserts that we are all capable of being extraordinary and redefines what it means to be just another ordinary person. He is living proof that extraordinary is there for all of us. It doesn’t mean rich or famous. It doesn’t mean better. To Daniel, “extraordinary” means grateful, honest, happy, loving, fearless, and faithful. Doing extraordinary things is not what makes us extraordinary. Being extraordinary is having an extraordinary perspective on our lives and the things that happen to us. Daniel’s narrative will inspire everyone to view their lives differently, remind us of the stories that we all share, and spark a renewed curiosity about a world that’s anything but ordinary.

Download or read book Knowledge Is Lonely written by Lonnie Hammons and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-05-24 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Christopher Columbus returned to Spain after his discovery of the New World in 1492 he was welcomed as a hero. The reception given to him by Ferdinand and Isabella was everything that he could have hoped for, and news of the new lands to the west spread quickly throughout Europe. In its essence, Knowledge is Lonely, is like that discovery so many years ago. It is an eclectic collage of short stories, and each one stands on their own. However like individual instruments in an orchestra, each story compliments the others. The end result is a symphony of melt in your mouth music that when translated into words peels back the veil of many mysteries and makes them plain. To the reader I will not divulge which story does this. I do not want to deny the pleasure that can be found in the pursuit of knowledge, but I will assure you that it is here. Lonnie Hammons
