Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My relationship with Ed Stilwill began in 1981 when he joined the Grand TraverseRadiologists as the fi fth physician. I was their Retirement Trust Officer and Ed and hisassociates were my clients. In 1994 Ed asked if he could join me on a two week deer andantelope hunting trip to Montana. He drew a non-resident license and I did not. That waswhen he told me he had never hunted big game before. On our trips, Ed would bring a hard back novel and take meticulous notes. He would return home and dictate these on cassettes for our pleasure later in the year. Ed is a student of western history and in particular, American Indian history which is used extensively in his writings. These stories tell of a 43 year old who travels west and north in pursuit of antelope, deer, elk, caribou, waterfowl and upland birds. Ed makes a few mistakes but learns fast and soon becomes a sportsman with the highest regard for the animals he pursues. These are a collection of tapes that have been edited by me for this book.Ed lives and practices medicine in Traverse City, Michigan when not at his mountain tophome in Big Sky, Montana. I have taken an early retirement, moved to Helena, Montanawith my wife where we purchased horses and began a new chapter of our own.
Download or read book The Last Ivory Hunter written by Peter Hathaway Capstick and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 1988-07-15 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A chance meeting around a safari campfire on the banks of the Mupamadazi River leads to The Last Ivory Hunter: The Saga of Wally Johnson, a grand tale of African adventure by renowned hunting author Peter Hathaway Capstick. Wally Johnson spent half a century in Mozambique hunting white gold—ivory. Most men died at this hazardous trade. He’s the last one able to tell his story. In hours of conversations by mopane fired in the African bush, Wally described his career—how he survived the massive bite of a Gaboon viper, buffalo gorings, floods, disease, and most dangerous of all, gold fever. He bluffed down 200 armed poachers almost single-handedly, and survived rocket attacks from communist revolutionaries during Mozambique’s plunge into chaos in 1975. In Botswana, at age 63, Wally continued his career. Though the great tuskers have largely gone and most of Wally’s colleagues are dead, Wally has survived. His words are rugged testimony to an Africa that is now a distant dream.

At least, she will be once she passes her final trial. The problem isn’t the killing. The problem, rather, is love. For to complete her trial, Pyrre has ten days to kill the seven people enumerated in an ancient song, including “the one who made your mind and body sing with love / who will not come again.” Pyrre isn’t sure she’s ever been in love. And if she fails to find someone who can draw such passion from her, or fails to kill that someone, her order will give her to their god, the God of Death. Pyrre’s not afraid to die, but she hates to fail, and so, as her trial is set to begin, she returns to the city of her birth in the hope of finding love . . . and ending it on the edge of her sword. Download or read book On Waters North and South written by Thomas E. Grove Ph. D. and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-05-27 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These selected stories of fishing, travel and safaris explore the dynamics of group behavior, male bonding and thoughts concerning the remaining wildernes in an era of changing values and environmental crisis. The central themes include friendships, responsibility, change, self-evaluation, and the constant influences of bodies of water on the author. Beginning with fishing trips in the 1980's and 90's, Grove drifts into the present as he recounts his travels from Canada and the USA to Zambia, Zanzibar, and continental Tanzania. Through a series of short stories he moves from the self assuredness of his early forties into personal assessments and ponderings of his early sixties. Personal observations, social comment, humor, bounded exaggeration and the crankiness of aging accompanied by travelogue, complement his observations and thoughts along the way.

Download or read book Claws of Life written by Mike Storey and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-05-30 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Teddycats are safe in Horizon Cove, but making it in the big jungle is even harder than they thought. The Teddycats made it out of Cloud Kingdom with nary a scratch, and it's all thanks to our hero, Bill. But adjusting to life in Horizon Cove isn't exactly easy, and the fact that the Teddycats know next to nothing about surviving in the wild doesn't help. Everyone's looking to Bill for guidance, but he's not exactly a wilderness expert himself. So what's a young Teddycat to do? Lucky for Bill, the Teddycats aren't the only animals in Horizon Cove: their new neighbors are a flock of odd but hospitable tropical birds who call themselves the Pets. The Pets are more than happy to help The Teddycats adjust to life in the jungle. They even agree to be their pampered new friends' survival coaches until the rainy season starts and they have to fly off to a drier climate. But then the telltale signs of rains come and go, and the Pets are nowhere near ready to leave. Bill doesn't want to rush his new friends, but the Teddycats could really use some more space to build dens permanent enough to withstand the rains. So he decides to investigate. And what he discovers is more chilling than the contents of even the meanest poacher's hunting bag. The Pets aren't who—or what—they say they are. And if Bill can't convince the Teddycats not to hang around any longer to find out the whole truth, they'll lose more than just their home. They'll lose everything.
