Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There's no way other women are struggling sexually like I am. Who could I even talk to about this? Isn't this a guy's issue? For too long, Christian women have assumed they’re outliers in their sexual struggles. This assumption (along with shame) often keeps them silent, leaving them to face the battle all by themselves. But if any of this sounds familiar, you’re not the only one. Whether your struggles take the form of masturbation, pornography, same sex attraction, or sexual fantasies, it’s not just you. These temptations are common not only for men in the church, but many women, too. So how do we fight against sexual sin as women? What do we do when there’s a disconnect between what the Bible says and how we live and feel? Or, if we lead a woman struggling in this way, how do we aid her in the battle? Written from the trenches of ministering to young women, young adult minister Ashley Chesnut explores why sexual sin is “sin” in the first place, what sex really is, and how Scripture speaks into topics like masturbation, oral sex, and sex robots—even when those words aren’t found in the Bible. God has already won the war against sin, and as you examine His Word along with Ashley, you’ll be equipped to battle against sexual sin and to aid other sisters in the fight. No, it’s not just you. And yes, you can take steps toward victory. Right now.

Book Just As Well I m Leaving

Download or read book Just As Well I m Leaving written by Michael Booth and published by Random House. This book was released on 2016-09-08 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The next Bill Bryson.’ New York Times Having been dragged against his will to live in Denmark, Michael Booth discovered one of the great secrets of travel literature - Andersen's A Poet's Bazaar - a fascinating travelogue through a Europe on the cusp of revolution, by an author who invented children's literature. He discovered, too, his chance to escape Denmark. In 1840 Andersen was also desperate to flee, writing as he sailed: 'It is just as well I am leaving, my soul is unwell!' In Germany he was enraptured both by steam travel and the fiery Franz Liszt. In sultry Naples this latent bisexual wrestled with his erotic demons before travelling to Athens (little more than a village), seeing the dervishes dance in Istanbul, and sailing home up the Danube. Booth follows him every step of the way, reflecting on Andersen's life, work and pathological self-obsession, encountering his own cast of characters, from an accommodating Hamburg prostitute to a bemused Danish Ambassador to the first ever female dervish, who whisks him off to meet her guru.

Book Just Culture

    Book Details:
  • Author : Professor Sidney Dekker
  • Publisher : Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.
  • Release : 2012-10-01
  • ISBN : 1409487024
  • Pages : 201 pages

Download or read book Just Culture written by Professor Sidney Dekker and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the success of the 2007 original, Dekker revises, enhances and expands his view of just culture for this second edition, additionally tackling the key issue of how justice is created inside organizations. The goal remains the same: to create an environment where learning and accountability are fairly and constructively balanced. The First Edition of Sidney Dekker’s Just Culture brought accident accountability and criminalization to a broader audience. It made people question, perhaps for the first time, the nature of personal culpability when organizational accidents occur. Having raised this awareness the author then discovered that while many organizations saw the fairness and value of creating a just culture they really struggled when it came to developing it: What should they do? How should they and their managers respond to incidents, errors, failures that happen on their watch? In this Second Edition, Dekker expands his view of just culture, additionally tackling the key issue of how justice is created inside organizations. The new book is structured quite differently. Chapter One asks, ‘what is the right thing to do?’ - the basic moral question underpinning the issue. Ensuing chapters demonstrate how determining the ‘right thing’ really depends on one’s viewpoint, and that there is not one ‘true story’ but several. This naturally leads into the key issue of how justice is established inside organizations and the practical efforts needed to sustain it. The following chapters place just culture and criminalization in a societal context. Finally, the author reflects upon why we tend to blame individual people for systemic failures when in fact we bear collective responsibility. The changes to the text allow the author to explain the core elements of a just culture which he delineated so successfully in the First Edition and to explain how his original ideas have evolved. Dekker also introduces new material on ethics and on caring for the’ second victim’ (the professional at the centre of the incident). Consequently, we have a natural evolution of the author’s ideas. Those familiar with the earlier book and those for whom a just culture is still an aspiration will find much wisdom and practical advice here.

Book excerpt: Throughout his earthly life Jesus grew increasingly reliant upon three spiritual resources. These same resources are available to you today. Just Like Jesus explores Jesus' growth and humble reliance on: prayer, the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit. Change is possible, but only as you trust in the resources Jesus used. He walked where you walk so that you can learn to walk just like him. The opening chapter examines Jesus' prayer life. Special attention is given to developing one's own prayer pattern based upon the Lord's instruction with his disciples (Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:1-4). The second chapter emphasizes essentials for growth through the Word. We are encouraged to: (1) study the Word for discovery; (2) apply the Word for change; (3) memorize the Word for instant retrieval. The final chapter looks at Jesus' dependence on the Holy Spirit. Jesus was both full of and led by the Spirit. What does it mean for us to depend on the Spirit of God in the same way that Jesus did? There is a special emphasis given on what it means to walk in the Spirit. The final pages read like a how-to-manual; giving practical suggestions to implement what you have learned. Help is offered for: prayer patterns, Bible study and reading guides, Scripture memory and dependence on the Holy Spirit.
