Book excerpt: In a fit of drunken bravado, Co-Navigator Anthony Troy tries a stunt to impress his date of the evening. While the rest of the ship parties away the Diamond Jubilee of the New Era, the duo soon find themselves in a terrible jam. Both get lost in space. It is then that he also discovers that the lady in question is none other than the only daughter of Marshall Bingenbatten, who happens to be the most powerful man in the Asteroid belt space stations, and tipped to be the Grand Marshall of the Space Fleet of Earth. Though they are rescued by a near miracle, Anthony soon finds himself in a bigger mess than before, all because of the lady. With the result the entire hierarchy of the Space Fleet comes down on him like the proverbial ton of bricks. He is left with no option but to flee Earth and head for Mars, where the mutants are being dumped by the pure beings of Earth. There he is surprised to find these unfortunate victims of the nuclear holocaust, have recovered from the humiliations heaped on them, and are building a fleet to contest the Solar System. They have also renamed the planet. Since it is now their new home, they call it the Homestead. They are aware (even though the Earthlings are not) that due to the large amount of energy released by the nuclear explosions, the Earth has begun to slow down. Which means, the pure beings will also sooner or later have to migrate to the Homestead. This they would have to do either on the terms of the mutants, or it would be war. He joins them eagerly, as he has always been against the enforced exodus of the mutants, and places his experience at their disposal. Both sides then head for the climatic (and now famous) Battle of the Shepherd Moons, one of the most decisive battles in the history of the Earth (Note: The Homestead, the authors maiden venture, reached the Quarter Finals in the Writers Digest Annual Writing Contest, Beverley Hills, CA.)

Book excerpt: In The Gifted and The Betrayed, Matthew Dickersons masterful story-telling and talent for suspenseful narrative draw us into the battle to save Gondisle from the Daegmon Lord. Dickerson brings to the creation of fantasy epic his keen observation of the natural world. Gondisles woods, plains, mountains, and marshes seem as real as those of our world. Nature is a living presence in The Daegmon War, and Dickerson follows in the footsteps of Tolkien and Lewis in making of fantasy the art of re-enchanting the world. This series satisfies our hunger for meaning as well as it satisfies our thirst for adventure. Benjamin Myers, former poet laureate of Oklahoma. Daegmons have wreaked destruction on Gondisle. The hope of the land rests on a small group of heroes who possess mystical powers of healing, shaping, knowledge, speech with creatures, and supernatural strength in battle. Yet the combined strengths and gifts of these heroes seem woefully inadequate, while the enemy grows more powerful each day. In the third volume of this series of epic high fantasy, Tienna, Elynna and their companions, after suffering a devastating defeat, flee east across the wild and rugged Undeani highlands, while Thimeon and Prince Dhan and their small band race north with two treasures from the troves of Citadel: a weapon of power, and an ancient tome of wisdom. Yet Daegmons and the armies of Citadel pursue both companies, whose desperate quests to escape and reunite lead them straight toward Illengond, the ancient holy mountain of the All-Maker. To survive, Tienna must learn what it means to be a healer, Elynna must become a leader, Thimeon must understand ancient wisdom, and all must cling to courage and hope in the midst of loss.

Book Let Us Descend

  • Author : L. Sheldon Oldford
  • Publisher : Page Publishing Inc
  • Release : 2021-03-25

  • Pages : 172 pages

Download or read book Let Us Descend written by L. Sheldon Oldford and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-03-25 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced beings from somewhere in our galaxy descending on mountaintops, appeared to men in burning bushes. Angels, known as cherubim with four wings and wheels, flew with the sound of thunder. Beings, who ate, drank, and communicated with ancient biblical people, were Earth's first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization. We, the humans of today, refer to these beings as the God of the Bible. In this book, L. Sheldon Oldford compares the knowledge we have of science and technology to the characteristics of the biblical God as the unseen, ever-present, and all-knowing deity only to find that this being is more like a flesh-and-blood ancient astronaut. This astronaut arrived on Earth thousands of years ago and made contact with biblical figures, such as Adam, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Ezekiel, Elijah, and Elisha, which brought about the establishment of moral and religious laws that set humanity on a course of needing a savior. Could it be that Jesus Christ was an actual descendant of a flesh-and-blood father named Yahweh, a real-life ancient astronaut? Can a Christian believe in evolution and still be a Christian? Could it be that the ancient alien theory is closer to the truth than any of Earth's religions? Are we truly the product of an extraterrestrial race of giants, created in the image and likeness of them?

Book Same Old Same New

  • Author : Mike Mason
  • Publisher : FriesenPress
  • Release : 2024-04-15

Download or read book Same Old Same New written by Mike Mason and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2024-04-15 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is so much of our existence so ordinary? Why this immense tract of stuff in our lives that seems to have no lofty purpose? In ninety short devotional chapters, Mike Mason meditates on this question, concluding that in fact everydayness, to the extent we embrace it, is a source of deep consolation. Far from being meaningless, the humdrum and the commonplace may actually hold the secret of life. Same Old, Same New—beautifully and provocatively written and full of arresting insights—will take your old tired world, stand it on end, and spin it like a top. “Mike Mason straddles two worlds, the quotidian and the eternal. Of course those two worlds aren’t separate worlds at all—and the reality of that intermingling, that co-existence of the mundane and the mystical, is perhaps the recurrent theme of Mason’s writing.” ~Ron Reed, Founding Artistic Director of Pacific Theatre

Book How to Tell Toledo from the Night Sky

Download or read book How to Tell Toledo from the Night Sky written by Lydia Netzer and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lydia Netzer, the award-winning author of Shine Shine Shine, weaves a mind-bending, heart-shattering love story that asks, "Can true love exist if it's been planned from birth?" Like a jewel shimmering in a Midwest skyline, the Toledo Institute of Astronomy is the nation's premier center of astronomical discovery and a beacon of scientific learning for astronomers far and wide. Here, dreamy cosmologist George Dermont mines the stars to prove the existence of God. Here, Irene Sparks, an unsentimental scientist, creates black holes in captivity. George and Irene are on a collision course with love, destiny and fate. They have everything in common: both are ambitious, both passionate about science, both lonely and yearning for connection. The air seems to hum when they're together. But George and Irene's attraction was not written in the stars. In fact their mothers, friends since childhood, raised them separately to become each other's soulmates. When that long-secret plan triggers unintended consequences, the two astronomers must discover the truth about their destinies, and unravel the mystery of what Toledo holds for them—together or, perhaps, apart. Lydia Netzer combines a gift for character and big-hearted storytelling, with a sure hand for science and a vision of a city transformed by its unique celestial position, exploring the conflicts of fate and determinism, and asking how much of life is under our control and what is pre-ordained in the heavens in her novel How to Tell Toledo from the Night Sky.
