Download or read book Just Another Day in Vietnam written by Keith M. Nightingale and published by Casemate. This book was released on 2019-10-19 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This military memoir examines one of the most vicious and tragically forgotten battles of the Vietnam War from a variety of perspectives. In June of 1967, the Viet Cong sought to isolate and destroy an elite South Vietnamese unit as part of a new offensive strategy. They sent a voluntary POW as an “informant” to dupe the 52nd Vietnamese Ranger Battalion into taking a dangerous position in the III Corps sector of South Vietnam. In the midst of an ambush, the members of the 52nd Ranger Battalion conducted themselves with great skill and valor. As one of those men, Keith Nightingale is uniquely suited to relate the events of that day. Based on firsthand experience as well as After Action Reports from a variety of sources, Just Another Day in Vietnam explores multiple perspectives, affording equal weight to ally and enemy alike. Nightingale offers rare insight into the often misunderstood role of the elite Vietnamese Ranger forces; the intelligence acquired from captured Rangers; and a rare eyewitness account to this fateful yet underexamined Vietnam battle.
Download or read book Just Another Day at the Office written by Robert Beath and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-05-20 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rambling, shambolic account of my life and career written as short storiessome rude, some funny, some tragic. I started this as an aid to my recovery from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in 2014 after a long period in hospital. I was very lucky after a week in a government mental ward to get accepted at Lakeside Clinic at Warners Bay Private Hospital, where I was treated with care and kindness and, for the first time in my life, learned something about my own emotions and to speak of thema very hard lesson to learn. Take my word, though, if you suffer PTSD or depressiondont let the hole get too deep. Talk to someone no matter how hard or how much it hurts; it is not just important to your well-being but of your family and friends as well. Some of my friends say I am a uniform collector, in my time being a scout, senior scout, cub instructor, soldier, police officer, special constable, MSS security officer, scout leader, volunteer firefighter, Atlanta Olympics security team officer, Sydney Olympics OVIP, Northern Agencies security officer, and lastly, a transit officer. Anyway, if you have gotten this far, I hope you enjoy the rest of this book.

Download or read book The First 20 Hours written by Josh Kaufman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-06-13 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forget the 10,000 hour rule— what if it’s possible to learn the basics of any new skill in 20 hours or less? Take a moment to consider how many things you want to learn to do. What’s on your list? What’s holding you back from getting started? Are you worried about the time and effort it takes to acquire new skills—time you don’t have and effort you can’t spare? Research suggests it takes 10,000 hours to develop a new skill. In this nonstop world when will you ever find that much time and energy? To make matters worse, the early hours of practicing something new are always the most frustrating. That’s why it’s difficult to learn how to speak a new language, play an instrument, hit a golf ball, or shoot great photos. It’s so much easier to watch TV or surf the web . . . In The First 20 Hours, Josh Kaufman offers a systematic approach to rapid skill acquisition— how to learn any new skill as quickly as possible. His method shows you how to deconstruct complex skills, maximize productive practice, and remove common learning barriers. By completing just 20 hours of focused, deliberate practice you’ll go from knowing absolutely nothing to performing noticeably well. Kaufman personally field-tested the methods in this book. You’ll have a front row seat as he develops a personal yoga practice, writes his own web-based computer programs, teaches himself to touch type on a nonstandard keyboard, explores the oldest and most complex board game in history, picks up the ukulele, and learns how to windsurf. Here are a few of the simple techniques he teaches: Define your target performance level: Figure out what your desired level of skill looks like, what you’re trying to achieve, and what you’ll be able to do when you’re done. The more specific, the better. Deconstruct the skill: Most of the things we think of as skills are actually bundles of smaller subskills. If you break down the subcomponents, it’s easier to figure out which ones are most important and practice those first. Eliminate barriers to practice: Removing common distractions and unnecessary effort makes it much easier to sit down and focus on deliberate practice. Create fast feedback loops: Getting accurate, real-time information about how well you’re performing during practice makes it much easier to improve. Whether you want to paint a portrait, launch a start-up, fly an airplane, or juggle flaming chainsaws, The First 20 Hours will help you pick up the basics of any skill in record time . . . and have more fun along the way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Going through a family breakup with children is a tremendous event in itself. Sons and Cadillacs is a heartwarming story about a father who had no idea how to manage through such a change let alone be a successful single parent. Prioritizing being a great dad and relying on a wonderful family, the best of friends, and two beautiful children, he was not only able to progress but endure. Finding joy with the people around him and a feeling of pride and success with his Cadillac, a favorite material possession and cultural icon for him, he managed the difficult change and started a new life. The story shows how failure in marriage is not a failure in parenting or life, just a new direction requiring an ongoing journey--one that is much easier when managed without anger or tumult. Once realized, the path to enlightenment progresses. Sons and Cadillacs takes the reader through the events of a new life and also the events that led to there. With real-life examples based on successes and temporary failures that include both warm and comical anecdotes, great lessons can be learned that will translate to anyone experiencing such an event. Through this journey, these elements are shared with the purpose of not only entertainment but to attach the audience to personal growth. A must-read for anyone going through a family breakup, especially with children, this book shows how we can manage through it while ensuring everyone turns out just fine and wonderful in the end. Happiness is not just a destination; it is also an important state of mind--one we all deserve.

Book excerpt: The Bergalia Boys—Wade Stubbs and Philip Atkinson—have been mates for a very long time. Well over thirty years, in fact, which is pretty good considering we are only thirty-five. The basic concept of our ride, “Circle to Circle – Miles for Wishes” has, in one form or other, been around for nearly as long. Growing up, we were just a couple of kids knocking round on dirt bikes much like anyone else. We rode every chance we had, but I didn’t think riding everywhere would ever actually get us anywhere!

In her fifties and fighting crime in more ways than one, she relocates to a small village in North Wales, that boasts the beautiful mountains of Snowdonia and a private beach. Her professionalism and character gives her a high success rate with offenders of crime, so she is admired across the board. Her friendship with her greatest and long time friends (whom she calls sisters) has now become a partnership, which is far from what Laura preaches, and the roll they have taken on, is highly inconceivable to themselves. When Laura’s life is put in jeopardy for the second time, she seems to be spiralling out of control and is driven to an even darker side where THE PARTNERSHIP takes on a different meaning. Her son is her world, and Tom an obsession that helped her through what she thought were the last hours of her life. Tom appears to her in a dream and what he tells her becomes truth, as well as saves her. This is a fast paced psychological thriller, that will leave the reader wondering where these four women will go to next. Download or read book Memoirs of Mexico and Motorcycling written by Clifton Melby and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2024-06-26 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In February of 2003 my friend Dave and I entered Mexico through the port of Nuevo Progreso from South Texas. We were eager and hopeful it could be as good as our earlier rides. Just a few blocks into Progreso the bumps, smells, sights, and sounds assured us it was all there "Viva La Mexico!" We pressed along the Emerald Coast riding to the Gulf of Mexico. We were lounging in the lap of a bygone era. We rode south to the bottom of the gulf and then north up the western shore of the Yucatan Peninsula. Then we rode east across the haunting Yucatan Peninsula to the Caribbean Sea. The ancient temples of the Mayan ruins pushed all the way through forest that was part of the great biosphere to our south flank that went deep into Guatemala. To our north flank vast miles of empty arid land undulated over many miles of underground rivers connecting the beautiful cenotes. We entered Belize from the north riding through savannahs back to the sea then west entering Guatemala on its eastern border near Tikal. I had big hopes, but limited knowledge of Guatemala. I was swallowed whole by it on day one. We rode through its beauty and its struggles all the way to its eastern border with Mexico along the Pacific Ocean. In Mexico we rode along the beautiful Pacific capes and north up into the mountains that are the bastion of Oaxaca. We rode a mountainous route all the way back to the U.S.A. Not before these images had dried and cured in my mind did I begin to understand how much I enjoyed this adventure. Awesome!
Download or read book Hyperbole and a Half written by Allie Brosh and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller “Funny and smart as hell” (Bill Gates), Allie Brosh’s Hyperbole and a Half showcases her unique voice, leaping wit, and her ability to capture complex emotions with deceptively simple illustrations. FROM THE PUBLISHER: Every time Allie Brosh posts something new on her hugely popular blog Hyperbole and a Half the internet rejoices. This full-color, beautifully illustrated edition features more than fifty percent new content, with ten never-before-seen essays and one wholly revised and expanded piece as well as classics from the website like, “The God of Cake,” “Dogs Don’t Understand Basic Concepts Like Moving,” and her astonishing, “Adventures in Depression,” and “Depression Part Two,” which have been hailed as some of the most insightful meditations on the disease ever written. Brosh’s debut marks the launch of a major new American humorist who will surely make even the biggest scrooge or snob laugh. We dare you not to. FROM THE AUTHOR: This is a book I wrote. Because I wrote it, I had to figure out what to put on the back cover to explain what it is. I tried to write a long, third-person summary that would imply how great the book is and also sound vaguely authoritative—like maybe someone who isn’t me wrote it—but I soon discovered that I’m not sneaky enough to pull it off convincingly. So I decided to just make a list of things that are in the book: Pictures Words Stories about things that happened to me Stories about things that happened to other people because of me Eight billion dollars* Stories about dogs The secret to eternal happiness* *These are lies. Perhaps I have underestimated my sneakiness!
Download or read book Git R Done written by Larry the Cable Guy and published by Crown Archetype. This book was released on 2005-10-11 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Git-R-Done is chock-full of fart jokes and straight talk about America. I sat down one day and said to myself, “Larry, you’ve done it all. You’ve got three gold records, a successful DVD, a hit TV show, a picture of Shania Twain givin’ ya the finger, and most important, the high score on Frogger. What more could you possibly do?” Then I started thinking about writing a book. I wanted mostly to write Git-R-Done for all those good Americans who just wanna laugh like I do. Come on inside and hear me make fun of Janet Reno, Rosie O’Donnell, and my fat sister, who caused a twelve-tray pileup in front of the caramel nut rolls at the country buffet. I’m gonna tell you why Dick Trickle is my hero, why we need to get back to good ol’ common sense, and why I prefer a picture of the Last Supper with NASCAR drivers as the disciples over just about anything. Lord, I apologize! The book will go down in history as one of America’s most important events since the breakup of Aldo Nova. Even my mom liked the book—here’s what she said: “There’s really not much I can say here except for I apologize to everyone ahead of time for the crap you are about to read.” Git-R-Done is just plain funny, I don’t care who ya are! Also available as an eBook.
