Book excerpt: The "He-Coon" is former U. S. Congressman Bob Sikes, once the most powerful figure in Florida's Panhandle. When he died with a diagnosis of malnutrition and a new secret will surfaced, his daughter retraced his final years and the hijacking of his estate by his new, much younger third wife. She found that during the darkened, helpless final years of his long bout with Alzheimer's disease, Bob Sikes was deprived of medical care, isolated from friends and family, and threatened with being sent to a nursing home if he didn't behave - which made him cry; meanwhile, his wife secretly transferred his assets into her name - with the help of his doctor (a state senator), his secretary, the town mayor, and her friends and her sister. During a decade of court battles, the children and grandchildren of the He-Coon learned that despite copious documentation of evidence, records, and perjury, despite legal precedents and statutes, justice follows political connections and deep pockets.

Download or read book One Night Stand written by Roland S. Jefferson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2006-05-23 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This sexy, action-packed thriller, set on the streets and in the courthouses of Los Angeles, is an explosive literary mix of contemporary urban authenticity and classic old-school crime fiction by the author of Damaged Goods and the cult classic The School on 103rd Street. How did a street hustler, in and out of jail since he was ten, beat a murder rap -- no matter whether he did the crime or not? Meet Myra Cross, a thirty-one-year-old redheaded beauty with a take-no-prisoners reputation as a public defender. She confounds her colleagues and clients alike as she not only wins acquittal after acquittal for her clients but poses for Playboy spreads in her spare time. She has the face of an angel, the body of a goddess, and a mind like a steel trap -- but with secrets and demons, she neither pretends to be a Girl Scout nor to have all the answers. But this time, when she's once again assigned the defense of Napoleon T. Booker, aka Little Dog Nine, who's charged with another homicide, she gets much more than she bargained for. "Street smarts stopped Myra Cross dead in her tracks. Napoleon Booker had reached inside her brain and ripped out her essence, dangled it in front of her like an item for sale at an eBay auction. Was she that transparent -- 'a coke-snorting, nymphomaniac basehead little freak?'" Roland S. Jefferson's fiction earns him comparisons to fellow master storytellers, including Elmore Leonard and Walter Mosley. This hot new novel will have his loyal following and a legion of new fans alike on fire, sitting on the edge of their seats in this pulse-pounding thriller they won't be able to put down until the last page!

Download or read book Memoirs of a Scheduler Aka Junk Yard Dog written by Andrew J. Page and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-11-27 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is to my knowledge accurate although as we all know some things get embellished with repeated telling. The company names are not real, as well as many of the names of individuals. Those who are in it can probably easily fi gure out who they are in this book. The story starts with Telecommunications back in the analog and live operators plugging in cords for local calls; then moves briefl y through Purchasing and Data Processing with the fi rst corporate main frame; and then to scheduling. It is more about me and my travels than it is about scheduling. The discipline took me to some very exotic places such as Tehran, Iran; Bergen Norway; Madrid Spain; Leyte Island; Jakarta, Dieng, Bali all in Indonesia; and Hawaii. It is also is a chronicle of some of my very good friends and lovers over the years. I hope all of you that read this enjoy it as much as I have in telling it.
