Book excerpt: Jump math was founded in the belief that all children, even those who have traditionally struggled at school, can learn mathematics. The JUMP Math student assessment & practice books are meant to be used in conjunction with the extensive teacher resources to enable students to practice and explore subtle variations on the lessons and to enable teachers to rapidly assess progress. For each lesson, there is a clear and highly effective lesson plan, which enables teachers to accomplish the seemingly impossible task of teaching to the whole class while tailoring to individual needs. Each lesson is carefully designed to generate deep, subtle, transferable mastery of key concepts. Lesson plans include ideas for contextualizing the math, questions and tasks that allow students to discover mathematical concepts, games, activities, and innovative extension questions that keep "fast" students engaged and learning while teachers help others to master the key objectives.

Book Continuous Time Processes for Finance

Download or read book Continuous Time Processes for Finance written by Donatien Hainaut and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-25 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores recent topics in quantitative finance with an emphasis on applications and calibration to time-series. This last aspect is often neglected in the existing mathematical finance literature while it is crucial for risk management. The first part of this book focuses on switching regime processes that allow to model economic cycles in financial markets. After a presentation of their mathematical features and applications to stocks and interest rates, the estimation with the Hamilton filter and Markov Chain Monte-Carlo algorithm (MCMC) is detailed. A second part focuses on self-excited processes for modeling the clustering of shocks in financial markets. These processes recently receive a lot of attention from researchers and we focus here on its econometric estimation and its simulation. A chapter is dedicated to estimation of stochastic volatility models. Two chapters are dedicated to the fractional Brownian motion and Gaussian fields. After a summary of their features, we present applications for stock and interest rate modeling. Two chapters focuses on sub-diffusions that allows to replicate illiquidity in financial markets. This book targets undergraduate students who have followed a first course of stochastic finance and practitioners as quantitative analyst or actuaries working in risk management.

Book Computational Logic

Download or read book Computational Logic written by Dov M. Gabbay and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2014-12-09 with total page 737 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of the History of Logic brings to the development of logic the best in modern techniques of historical and interpretative scholarship. Computational logic was born in the twentieth century and evolved in close symbiosis with the advent of the first electronic computers and the growing importance of computer science, informatics and artificial intelligence. With more than ten thousand people working in research and development of logic and logic-related methods, with several dozen international conferences and several times as many workshops addressing the growing richness and diversity of the field, and with the foundational role and importance these methods now assume in mathematics, computer science, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, linguistics, law and many engineering fields where logic-related techniques are used inter alia to state and settle correctness issues, the field has diversified in ways that even the pure logicians working in the early decades of the twentieth century could have hardly anticipated. Logical calculi, which capture an important aspect of human thought, are now amenable to investigation with mathematical rigour and computational support and fertilized the early dreams of mechanised reasoning: "Calculemus. The Dartmouth Conference in 1956 – generally considered as the birthplace of artificial intelligence – raised explicitly the hopes for the new possibilities that the advent of electronic computing machinery offered: logical statements could now be executed on a machine with all the far-reaching consequences that ultimately led to logic programming, deduction systems for mathematics and engineering, logical design and verification of computer software and hardware, deductive databases and software synthesis as well as logical techniques for analysis in the field of mechanical engineering. This volume covers some of the main subareas of computational logic and its applications. - Chapters by leading authorities in the field - Provides a forum where philosophers and scientists interact - Comprehensive reference source on the history of logic
