The book includes aspects of Latino culture vital for any dental professional as well as key dental health phrases and useful grammar.Paso a Pasofocuses on learning, practicing, and speaking both standard and colloquial Spanish for an office setting. The CD will not be sold separately. FromPaso a Paso/Step by Step, Chapter Two "In Latin America, more than one last name is used to describe family relationships. Latino names consist of a first and middle name, or "given names," followed by the father's last name, followed by the mother's paternal surname--in that order. Many people shorten their names by using only an initial for the maternal surname. For example, in the story, Marco's name would be written Marco Antonio Hernández Calderón or Marco Hernández C. So, the surname by which official records are kept is the first surname "It is important for Americans and Latinos to understand these differences, to record the correct surname on dental records, consistently. Among Latinos, the first last name is the equivalent of a last name in the US."

Book Handbook of Research on Using Motor Games in Teaching and Learning Strategy

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Using Motor Games in Teaching and Learning Strategy written by Gil-Madrona, Pedro and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-05-06 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motor games are incredibly useful in enhancing education and developing critical skills; they can entertain, produce pleasant emotions, improve moods, and increase the level of relationships. Motor games allow social, emotional, and cognitive development as well as the acquisition of motor skills such as knowledge and mastery of body, postural control and adjustment, and improvement of coordination. However, it is essential to select the appropriate game for each context to achieve the desired learning in all students. Further research on the opportunities, challenges, and future directions of motor games in education is necessary to successfully implement them. The Handbook of Research on Using Motor Games in Teaching and Learning Strategy presents significant advances in motor game education and collects research evidence that uncovers the certainties and testifies to the educational power of motor games in various situations and specific contexts that promote the learning of participants. Covering topics such as emotional physical education and educational mediation, this major reference work is ideal for researchers, academicians, educators, practitioners, and students.

Book Latino Social Policy

Download or read book Latino Social Policy written by Juana Mora and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examine alternative strategies to resolving important Latino social issues! Latino Social Policy: A Participatory Research Model examines the failure of traditional research methods to address major social needs in Latino communities, promoting instead a participatory/action approach to research that is socially—and scientifically—meaningful. Experts from a variety of disciplines focus on nontraditional strategies that engage community residents in community-research projects, shortening the distance between the researcher and the “subject.” This unique book recounts lessons learned on conducting Participatory Action Research (PAR) in Latino communities using techniques based on anthropology, education, community health and evaluation, and urban planning. Latino Social Policy: A Participatory Research Model addresses non-traditional methods of reducing the tension between the reality of interaction with the subject community and the academic training structures used by researchers. The book promotes a new vision and practice of research design in which the “subject” is central to the process, advocating a participatory approach to produce qualitatively different research based on community identified problems and needs. Contributors examine the value of integrating local knowledge, language, and culture into the methodological design, the ethics of conducting research in Latino communities, and the internal conflicts Chicana/o researchers face within their profession and in the field. Topics addressed in Latino Social Policy: A Participatory Research Model include: community health and Central Americans in Los Angeles ethnography and substance abuse among transnational Mexican farmworkers identity and field research in Mexico the Latino Coalition for a New Los Angeles (LCNLA) researcher/community partnerships and much more! Latino Social Policy: A Participatory Research Model includes case studies, ethnographies, and vignettes that illustrate participatory approaches and outcomes in Latino research. The book is equally valuable as a textbook for academics and students working in the social sciences, public policy, and urban planning, and as a professional guide for community leaders and organizations interested in developing research partnerships.

Book Subject Headings for School and Public Libraries

Download or read book Subject Headings for School and Public Libraries written by Joanna F. Fountain and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2012-01-16 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For public and school libraries, this resource reflects recent changes in Library of Congress subject headings and authority files, and provides bilingual information essential to reference librarians and catalogers serving Spanish speakers. Libraries must provide better access to their collections for all users, including Spanish-language materials. The American Library Association has recognized this increasing need. Subject Headings for School and Public Libraries: Bilingual Fourth Edition is the only resource available that provides both authorized and reference entries in English and Spanish. A first-check source for the most frequently used headings needed in school and public libraries, this book incorporates thousands of new and revised entries to assist in applying LCSH and CSH headings. Of the approximately 30,000 headings listed, most include cross-references, and all of the cross-reference terms are translated. MARC21 tags are included for all authorized entries to simplify entering them into computerized catalogs, while indexes to all headings and free-floating subdivisions are provided in translation from Spanish to English. This book gives librarians access to accurate translations of the subject terms printed in books published and cataloged in English-speaking countries—invaluable information in settings with Spanish-speaking patrons.
