Book Judah s Shepherd King

Download or read book Judah s Shepherd King written by Marjorie Mogonye and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dive into an ancient world full of giants, epic battles, adultery, murder, and friendship with the Bible's most beloved character--David. Marjorie Mogonye's Judah's Shepherd King will capture the imaginations of readers with the story of David--shepherd boy, warrior, and great king--in an exciting narrative form that provides biblical history from the Old Testament books of 1 and 2 Samuel. Judah's Shepherd King follows David from his lowly beginning as a shepherd on the hills surrounding Bethlehem to ultimate king of Israel. On this perilous journey, David was a harpist for King Saul, a giant slayer, a warrior for the Israeli nation against the Philistines, an adulterer, a murderer, and finally the king of Israel. It's never too late to revisit the timeless story of David and see his mistakes, great strengths, and faith in the Lord played out among the pages. He was, most certainly, the Lord's Anointed One.

Book Matthew s Messianic Shepherd King

Download or read book Matthew s Messianic Shepherd King written by Joel Willitts and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-08-27 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In two places in the First Gospel (Matt 10:5b-6; 15:24) the Messianic mission of Jesus and his disciples is limited to a group called ‘the lost sheep of the house of Israel’. In light of Matthew’s intense interest in Jesus’ Davidic Messiahship and the Jewish Shepard-King traditions surrounding King David it is argued that the 'lost sheep of the house of Israel' refers to remnants of the former northern kingdom of Israel who continued to reside in the northern region of the ideal Land of Israel.

Book excerpt: Nearly all metaphors in the Gospel according to John relate to ancient family imagery. Thus, the disciples are born of the Father; the Father provides them with bread and drink (water); He educates them and protects them and a dwelling is prepared for them, and so on. This family imagery, which is interwoven throughout the Gospel in a complex network, provides a key to the understanding of the message of the Fourth Gospel. In this volume, after exploring numerous state-of-the-art theories on metaphor, a customised metaphor theory is developed from the Fourth Gospel itself, which can be applied to the analysis of the Gospel as a whole. The theory is based on two of the best-known metaphors in the Fourth Gospel: I am the Good Shepherd, and I am the True Vine. Subsequently, all other metaphors are analysed according to this theory.

Book The Chronicles of the Kings of Judah

Download or read book The Chronicles of the Kings of Judah written by Yigal Levin and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-02-23 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Chronicles, the last book of the Hebrew Bible and a central historical book of the Christian Old Testament, has in recent decades gone from being “the Cinderella of biblical studies” to being one of the most researched books of the Bible. The anonymous author, often simply called “the Chronicler” by modern scholars, looks back at the old Israelite monarchy, before the Babylonian Exile, from his vantage point in the post-exilic early Second Temple Period, and attempts to “update” the older historiographies of Samuel and Kings in order to elucidate their meaning to the people of his own time. In The Chronicles of the Kings of Judah, Yigal Levin does the same for the modern reader. He offers a brand-new translation and commentary on 2 Chronicles chapters 10-36, tracing the “sacred history” of the monarchy from the division of Solomon's kingdom to the final exile and return. Each chapter is translated from the original Hebrew into an English that is both faithful to the original and easy for the modern reader to follow. Extensive footnotes provide full explanations of the translator's choices and of linguistic and literary issues, taking note of alternative versions offered by a wide array of ancient and modern versions and translations. The comprehensive commentary on each section provides historical background and explains the text both on a literary and a historical level, making full use of the most up-to-date research on the text, literature, history, geography and on the archaeological background of the biblical world. The Chronicles of the Kings of Judah is to be followed by The Chronicles of David and Solomon on 1 Chronicles 10 – 2 Chronicles 9, and then by The Chronicles of All Israel on the genealogies of 1 Chronicles 1-9 and including comprehensive essays on the book of Chronicles, its time, purposes, methods and meanings.

That it’s hard to follow God to the end and leave a legacy that’s remembered well. In The Godly Kings of Judah, you’ll embark on an 8-week Bible study that leads you through a process of repentance, renewal, and revival. The Old Testament kings will be your companions as you fight the Lord’s battles, topple the idols that claw at our hearts, and bring reformation to the holy people of God. Book The Davidic Shepherd King in the Lukan Narrative

Download or read book The Davidic Shepherd King in the Lukan Narrative written by Sarah Harris and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-19 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Luke-Acts, Jesus can be seen to take on the attributes of the Davidic shepherd king, a representation successfully conveyed through specific narrative devices. The presence of the shepherds in the birth narrative can be understood as an indication of this understanding of Jesus. Sarah Harris analyses the multiple ways scholars have viewed the shepherds as characters in the narrative, and uses this as an example of how the theme of Jesus' shepherd nature is interwoven into the narrative as a whole. From the starting point of Jesus' human life, Harris moves to later events portrayed in Jesus' ministry in which he is seen to enact his message as God's faithful Davidic shepherd, in particular, the parable of the Lost Sheep and the Zacchaeus pericope (19:1-10). Harris uses this latter encounter to underline that Jesus may be hailed as a King by the crowds as he enters Jerusalem, but he is not simply a king. He is God's Davidic Shepherd King, as prophesied in Micah 5 and Ezekiel 34, who brings the gospel of peace and salvation to the earth.
