Book Wind Tunnel Wall Correction

Download or read book Wind Tunnel Wall Correction written by B. F. R. Ewald and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report was compiled by an international team of wind tunnel wall correction experts. It presents the present state of the art in wind tunnel wall corrections with a special emphasis given to the description of modern wall correction methods based on Computational Fluid Dynamics. This AGARDograph was planned by the AGARD Fluid Dynamics Panel to be a modern sequel of the successful AGARDograph 109 "Subsonic Wind Tunnel Wall Corrections", which was published in 1966. AGARDogaph 109 is still valid and continues to be used to provide wall corrections in many wind tunnels. Nevertheless, in the thirty two years since the publication of AGARDograph 109, much work has been done on the subject, and the influence of the new tool of numerical fluid dynamics was so strong, that a sequel to AGARDograph 109 was considered to be necessary.

  • Pages : 186 pages

Download or read book The Law of Outer Space written by Tanja L. Masson-Zwaan and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2010-09-10 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a remarkable achievement to write a book that almost four decades after its publication has lost virtually none of its relevance. Manfred Lachs’ famous treatise on the Law of Outer Space was originally published in 1972, yet it is still a classic and must-read text for space law students today, even though copies can nowadays be rarely found. The reissue of this remarkable work is therefore timely indeed. Its aim is to make the brilliance, foresight and clarity of Lachs’ thinking once more easily accessible to a new generation of scholars. Issued on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the International Institute of Space Law, of which Lachs was President, this volume reproduces the original text of Lachs' work in full, with a new preface, introduction and index supplied by the editors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some might think that the 27 thousand tons of material launched by earthlings into outer space is nothing more than floating piles of debris. However, when looking at these artifacts through the eyes of historians and anthropologists, instead of celestial pollution, they are seen as links to human history and heritage.Space: The New Frontier for Ar

Book Wind Turbines in Cold Climates

Download or read book Wind Turbines in Cold Climates written by Lorenzo Battisti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-16 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the key concerns regarding the operation of wind turbines in cold climates and focuses in particular on the analysis of icing and methods for its mitigation. Topics covered include the implications of cold climates for wind turbine design and operation, the relevance of icing for wind turbines, the icing process itself, ice prevention systems and thermal anti-icing system design. In each chapter, care is taken to build systematically on the basic knowledge, providing the reader with the level of detail required for a thorough understanding. An important feature is the inclusion of several original analytical and numerical models for ready computation of icing impacts and design assessment. The breadth of the coverage and the in-depth scientific analysis, with calculations and worked examples relating to both fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, ensure that the book will serve not only as a textbook but also as a practical manual for general design tasks.

Book excerpt: "The origin of life may have happened an inconceivably long time ago, but scientists like David Deamer are making major advances in understanding how the first microbes began to seethe on our planet, ultimately giving rise to all species alive today. In First Life, Deamer offers a delightful synthesis of research into life's dawn with his own vision for how it came to be."—Carl Zimmer, author of The Tangled Bank: An Introduction to Evolution "No living scientist has had a greater impact on our understanding of life’s origins than Dave Deamer. In First Life, his remarkably engaging, constantly lucid, and delightfully personal narrative, Deamer takes us behind the scenes of origins research as no one else could. What a story!”—Robert M. Hazen, Senior Staff Scientist, Carnegie Institution, and author of Genesis: The Scientific Quest for Life's Origins "David Deamer has written a truly wonderful book. A preeminent scientist in the origin of life field, he has produced a synoptic, wise, and warmly human discussion. Anyone interested in how we came to exist in our universe had best read this book.”—Stuart Kauffman, author of At Home in the Universe: The Search for the Laws of Self-Organization and Complexity and Reinventing the Sacred: A New View of Science, Reason, and Religion

This monograph should be of interest to space scientists and engineers.

Book Aquatic Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Services

Download or read book Aquatic Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Services written by Shin-ichi Nakano and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the topic of local biodiversity conservation in the Asia-Pacific region, one of the most rapidly changing areas in the world. With a focus on aquatic systems, this book offers insight on the state of local biodiversity, challenges in management and conservation of biodiversity, and newly developed methods for monitoring biodiversity. In addition, because the service provided by an ecosystem for humans is interlinked with conservation, the final part is dedicated to evaluating the socioeconomic aspect of ecosystem services, with special reference to local biodiversity. In effect, all contributions provide information that is invaluable for effective conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. This work will interest all stakeholders in biodiversity conservation, including policy makers, NPOs, NGOs, environment-related industries, and biodiversity researchers, not only in the Asia-Pacific region, but also across the entire globe.
