Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Journey of Joy is distinguished by its focus on human rights and social justice movements. Guzman aims to inspire as well as provide practical information. The combination of quotes, photographs, resources, and the international perspective on human struggle makes this a unique offering that may appeal to readers for reasons beyond the poetry's level of sophistication." BlueInk Review. The Journey of Joy, divided in four chapters entitled "New York," "Love," "Reality" and "Life," touches on a diversity of current concerns. These are the boroughs where, traveling fast, the poet discovers the self every day. Flashing through sensory experience, she has supercharged the Whitmanesque style in the 21st century. At breathing spots, Gandhi, Prophet Mohamed, Martin Luther King, Jr. and like personages are quoted. Cellphone text messages, New Yorker code and Guzman's American, Ecuadorian and Bolivian background are mashed into a funk rave that sweeps her audience along into a state of belief that the citizens of humanity do make a difference for peace in the music of a thousand languages that soothe the New York air.

Book Through the Door of Life

Download or read book Through the Door of Life written by Joy Ladin and published by University of Wisconsin Pres. This book was released on 2012-03-15 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Jay Ladin made headlines around the world when, after years of teaching literature at Yeshiva University, he returned to the Orthodox Jewish campus as a woman—Joy Ladin. In Through the Door of Life, Joy Ladin takes readers inside her transition as she changed genders and, in the process, created a new self. With unsparing honesty and surprising humor, Ladin wrestles with both the practical problems of gender transition and the larger moral, spiritual, and philosophical questions that arise. Ladin recounts her struggle to reconcile the pain of her experience living as the “wrong” gender with the pain of her children in losing the father they love. We eavesdrop on her lifelong conversations with the God whom she sees both as the source of her agony and as her hope for transcending it. We look over her shoulder as she learns to walk and talk as a woman after forty-plus years of walking and talking as a man. We stare with her into the mirror as she asks herself how the new self she is creating will ever become real. Ladin’s poignant memoir takes us from the death of living as the man she knew she wasn’t, to the shattering of family and career that accompanied her transition, to the new self, relationships, and love she finds when she opens the door of life. 2012 Finalist for the National Jewish Book Award for Biography, Autobiography, or Memoir “Wrenching—and liberating. . . .[it] opens up new ways of looking at gender and the place of LGBT Jews in community.”—Greater Phoenix Jewish News “Given her high-profile academic position, Ladin’s transition was a major news story in Israel and even internationally. But behind the public story was a private struggle and learning experience, and Ladin pulls no punches in telling that story. She offers a peek into how daunting it was to learn, with little support from others, how to dress as a middle-aged woman, to mu on make-up, to walk and talk like a female. She provides a front-row seat for observing how one person confronted a seemingly impossible situation and how she triumphed, however shakingly, over the many adversities, both societal and psychological, that stood in the way.”—The Gay and Lesbian Review Worldwide

Book Joy s Journey

Book excerpt: Joy’s story is really many small journeys that make up an astounding life. It takes her from an extremely poor farm in Oklahoma to the despair that caused her to climb an oil rig with the intent of jumping off, on to a short career as a commercial fisherman, years as a gypsy, then onward to a career that culminated in being a private contractor in the Middle East. The journey that wraps it all is the story of the journey she began at age eighty-three in order to survive the heartbreak of her husband’s death. Do not get the idea that this is a sad story. You will feel cheered and inspired all the way. She covered all the countries in Europe and more, completely alone, spontaneously bouncing from one hostel to another. The adventures and lessons make for captivating reading.

Book Joy s Journey into the Forest

Download or read book Joy s Journey into the Forest written by Murat Ukray and published by eKitap Projesi & Cheapest Books. This book was released on 2022-07-30 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joy is a cute little squirrel who lives in atree in a Ukrainian city park. She is always happy and even happier when one day she meets a little girl who gives her a taste ofsomething delicious. Eve rything used to run in harmony in the park. But things change when war breaks out, and Joy must escape with her other friends to the forest. Not knowing what is going on, they decide to visit Joy’s grandmother, a wise old squirrel who will explain everything to the young animals. ABOUT THIS BOOK`S STORY: About 5 months ago, not so long, in the winter times of years of peace, when I was strolling through the Gorky Park in the city of Harkov in Ukraine, I saw small squirrels wandering in the forest and rushing quickly and excitedly from one tree to another and carrying their food among the curious gazes of people. I was impressed and so did my daughter Elisa (5 years old), as well. But when the war bursted out and we had to leave Harkov suddenly, I had felt so sad thinking maybe our sweet memories were left behind us forever. So I decided to write this little children’s book as a memory. When there were explosions in the city, while we are at home, my daughter asked me “What are these sounds, daddy?” I always replied: “The planes are passing, Elisa” and added “This is all little game, honey”. Because, I believe that the children should never learn what the war is or you should tell the war like a story. I hope, you will enjoy reading my second book, which aims to give meaningful messages to not only for the children, and also for the adults. This story tells our tragical and also hard last day that we left Ukraine, when not only people had damaged and also the animals had suffered. By the way, the proceeds of this book will be used to help war-torn civilians in Ukraine. May God helps to all.. M. Ukray (May, 2022)

Download or read book Can t Steal My Joy written by Bekah Bowman and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are all broken. It's a unified human experience. And we all need a hope that doesn't disappoint, a love that anchors us, joy that survives in unthinkable conditions, and a perspective shift that goes beyond our circumstances. Some days we feel the perfection of sunshine and a light breeze. Other days hold wet, gray skies with drowning grief. In the wake, comes promise of new growth. Still other days a cold winter frost catches us by surprise, halting our journey toward fruitful blooms. We step back, reeling at the damage from this frost. We question the system and environment we grow in. We can exist in this garden dictated by the changing weather patterns. Or, we can see a different kind of brave living-that which exists beyond our fragile stems and dainty leaves, living instead deep in our roots. This book is for those sitting in the deep-down dark, traveling with grief as a constant companion, and anyone whose life path has taken an unexpected turn. Bekah shares the heart break of a fatal diagnosis for not just one, but both her children. As she journeyed through dark valleys of death, it was there she experienced Jesus in a whole new way-in deeply broken places. Her journey holding pain in one hand and joy in the other is vulnerably scribbled out on these pages as she tore open the wounds in her soul to share how Christ created beauty and goodness in it all. It was in this journey, she learned to see wholeness in cracks, courage in the broken-hearted, and bravery in the act of letting go. May you discover the Life-Giver of joy, see your beautiful bloom, and know that hope is always worth holding on to, because redemption is coming--and in fact--is already happening here and now. "Can't Steal My Joy is an honest, real-life account of a life storm that drops down right on top of you with no warning - and the unspeakable beauty that blooms from the wreckage. Bekah's heart beats in every page, every word. To read her story from start to not-yet-finished, it's only natural to wonder how anyone could survive something like this. But the truth is that Bekah and Danny have done much more than survive. They have thrived. And as for the how? Jesus - only Jesus. God's grace weaves seamlessly throughout each moment of confusion, devastation, hope, surrender, and triumph. You cannot read this book without seeing the Creator and longing for all things new." Anne Riley, author of Voyage to the Star Kingdom "I had the absolute pleasure of being able to read Bekah Bowman's book, Can't Steal My Joy, before it hit the bookshelves. I honestly have not read anything so moving and soul stirring since, The Shack. Whether you are in a season of mourning or grief, or in my case, struggling in the heaviness of life to find peace and joy within, this book helps lift the veil of sadness to reveal God's promise that He never leaves you. God makes his presence known everyday in little ways if you only stop to look for the joy outside the pain. Bekah is a gifted writer and I'm so excited to share this book with my friends and family."
