Book excerpt: Many today search for paths to greater peace and fulfillment in their lives. Joy Awaits offers readers a myriad of spiritual understandings and approaches to living a life of greater serenity, love, and happiness. This book shares metaphysical perspectives on who we truly are, what our lives are meant to be, and the joy that awaits us all as we awaken to these greater realities from the perspective of our Souls beckoning us on. In addition to these alternative ways of viewing our existence, author Dorothy Leeda Jones, PhD, shares many simple methods to take us into a more joyful experience of daily life. These teachings have come together for Dr. Jones as a result of her interest in pursuing the life of the Soul beginning with a transcendental experience at a period of deep despair and the grace she experienced at that time. She shares the shift in consciousness so needed today to heal our ailing world with true love, sharing, and brotherhood. In this book we are gently and practically guided into our own Soul reality and the joy that we may rest in there. We are all invited to join her in this adventurous journey into viewing all things, certainly ourselves, from this wondrous and exulted viewpoint of spiritual reality. Dr. Jones asks us to accompany her on this our very own form of walkabout.

Book Consuming Knowledge Studying Knowledge Use in Leisure and Work Activities

Download or read book Consuming Knowledge Studying Knowledge Use in Leisure and Work Activities written by Steven D. Silver and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is difficult to overstate the importance of personal consumption both to individual consumers and to the economy. While consumer&, are recognized as valuing market goods and services for the activities they can construct from them in the frameworks of several disciplines, consequences of the characteristics of goods and services they use in these activities have not been well studied. In the discourse to follow, I will contrast knowledge-yielding and conventional goods and services as factors in the construction of activities that consumers engage in when they are not in the workplace. Consumers will be seen as deciding on non-work activities and the inputs to these activities according to their objectives, and the values and cumulated skills they hold. I will suggest that knowledge content in these activities can be efficient for consumer objectives and also have important externalities through its effect on productivity at work and economic growth. The exposition will seek to elaborate these points and contribute to multi disciplinal dialogue on consumption. It takes as its starting point the contention that consumption is simultaneously an economic and social psychological process and that integration of content can contribute to explanation.

Book excerpt: Can joy come from suffering? We think of suffering as the worst of all evils. Our culture tells us to avoid it at all costs. But can suffering produce growth in us when we learn to endure it . . . then value it . . . then allow God to redeem it? John Perkins’ response to suffering at the hands of a white sheriff in a Mississippi jail became the springboard that God used to put him in front of U.S. presidents, international politicians, and evangelical church leaders. Perkins sees endurance in suffering as a virtue that makes us more like Christ and ultimately produces uncommon joy in the heart of the sufferer who trusts in Him. Christ walked the path of love all the way to the cross, and even in the midst our brokenness, we can do the same. In Count It All Joy, you will be encouraged to lean into suffering when it comes your way, stand alongside others who suffer, and believe that God will repurpose your suffering according to His good plan. God doesn’t intend your life to be free of all suffering. Instead, He wants you trust Him in the midst of it and discover the unexpected joy that trials can produce.

Book The Intelligible Ode

Download or read book The Intelligible Ode written by Graham Davidson and published by Lutterworth Press. This book was released on 2023-03-30 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its first publication, what is now known as the Immortality Ode has been praised for the magnificence of its verse and disparaged for its paucity of meaning - the 'immortality' of the subtitle unsubstantiated, and the 'recollections' insubstantial. Yet Wordsworth's idea of immortality has clear precedents in the seventeenth century, and recollections of childhood are Traherne's starting point for the recovery of a lost vision comparable to Wordsworth's. Via the power of the imagination, or reason, they believed they could experience a renewed vision that both termed variously Paradise, or infinity, or immortality. Graham Davidson traces the origins of Wordsworth's poetic impetus to his resistance to the Cartesian division between mind and nature, first adumbrated by the Cambridge Platonists. If reunited, Paradise was regained, but this personal trajectory was tempered by a deep sympathy for the woes of mortal life. Davidson explores the consequent dialogue through some of Wordsworth's best-known poems, at the heart of which is the Ode. In the last section, he demonstrates how Wordsworth's publishing history led the Victorians and modernists to misinterpret his work; if one considers Eliot's Four Quartets as odes, facing several of the same problems as did Wordsworth, there is some irony in Eliot's dismissal of the Immortality Ode as 'verbiage'.

Book Prayer in John s Farewell Discourse

Download or read book Prayer in John s Farewell Discourse written by Scott Adams and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-03-12 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was reported that a doctoral student at Princeton once asked Albert Einstein, “What is there left in the world for original dissertation research?” He replied by saying, “Find out about prayer. Somebody must find out about prayer.” Since Einstein’s day, a great deal has been written on the topic of prayer in general. However, relatively little has been written about prayer in John’s Farewell Discourse in particular. Therefore, this analysis not only seeks to understand the relationship between Johannine and Jewish, Greco-Roman, and Christian prayer traditions, but also seeks to discern the unique function and application of prayer as it is prescribed in the Farewell Discourse.
