Book A Hoosier s Journey

Download or read book A Hoosier s Journey written by Frank P. Jozsa (Jr.) and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In September 1941, I was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. I completed elementary and secondary schools there and then in 1963 graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Indiana State College. After serving as a logistics officer for five years in the military, I worked for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan, and later for Indiana National Bank in Indianapolis, Indiana. In the 1970s, I earned master of business administration, master of science, and doctorate of philosophy degrees, and since the late 1970s, I have taught classes in economics, statistics, and business administration to undergraduate and graduate students at various American colleges and universities. Besides teaching, I have also authored articles and books about the business, economics, and operations of leagues and their franchises in professional team sports. For activities, I became a reader of Advanced Placement examinations, an investor, and a distance runner. Being a competitive and dedicated athlete, I played varsity baseball and basketball while in high school and college, and performed as an all-star catcher and pitcher in Little League and on championship teams in Babe Ruth and Connie Mack Leagues. At a baseball tryout camp for major league prospects held in Columbus, Ohio, I tried but unfortunately did not play well enough to sign a contract with a professional team. As a student, I usually earned good to excellent grades in many subjects and, in fact, was salutatorian of my class at Gerstmeyer High School. Then I graduated with an accounting degree at Indiana State College (now University), master's degrees at two universities, and a PhD in economics at Georgia State University. To achieve academically at these schools, I disciplined myself to attend lectures, complete all assignments, conscientiously study my notes and textbooks, and maximize scores on examinations and class projects. Indeed, my accomplishments as a student in high school and colleges and universities led to a career in higher education. Between the late 1970s and 2007, I was a teacher and author who taught several types of economics and business administration courses to undergraduate and graduate students at accredited schools in Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. In addition, I was a classroom instructor with the University of Maryland in Germany. The articles I wrote appeared in journals, magazines, and newspapers while my books analyzed the business, economics, finance, and operations of leagues and teams in professional baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, and soccer. Besides these experiences, I was a captain in the United States Air Force and stationed for one year in South Vietnam. Furthermore, I trained as a long-distance runner, won many age-group awards, and competed in five marathons, including races in Boston and New York City. After 35 years of fulltime teaching, I retired from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, North Carolina. I currently live in Tega Cay, South Carolina.

Book Packing Grandma s China

Download or read book Packing Grandma s China written by Lana M. Tatom and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Somewhere along the way in life, you start to listen to that little voice. We are all on this journey together, growing, learning, and changing. As I stood in the kitchen of my dream home, looking out on the still water of the pond, I cried. Warm, salty tears streamed down my face as I told myself I could do this. "Just start with one box; don't get overwhelmed. Pack one box; stay focused." I started packing Grandma's china first. As I packed the china set, a flood of memories came of the countless times I had carefully wrapped up each piece and placed them into the box. It was at that moment that I decided to write about this beautiful set of china, all the experiences and lessons I have learned along my journey. It is through my grandmother's journey that I have found my own strength and freedom. Twenty years and thirteen moves later, the china is the only set of dishes I own. When was the last time you used your china? What are you waiting for? Don't leave it locked up, waiting for a special occasion. Make today the special occasion you have been waiting for. In loving memory of my Grandma, Veronica Billetz (January 13, 1922-December 13, 2009)

  • Author : Caleb Pirtle III
  • Publisher : eBookIt.com
  • Release : 2012-07-10
  • ISBN : 0984208364
  • Pages : 263 pages

Download or read book Other Voices Other Towns written by Caleb Pirtle III and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2012-07-10 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Other Voices, Other Towns" has, in reality, taken Caleb Pirtle III a lifetime to write. During the thirty years he has been writing about travel across this great land, he spent much of his time listening to those whose paths he crossed. Pirtle collects people. He collects their stories. He is firmly convinced that everyone who has ever walked across the street has a great story to tell if only someone will take the time to listen. Pirtle has recorded many of them in "Other Voices, Other Towns." The sketches, the anecdotes, the tales they tell, the memories they have stored, their lessons of life make you feel better or make you want to cry. Their stories are filled with disappointments and with inspiration: The blind man who tends his beehives in the Smoky Mountains and knows that someday "I'm going to where the mountains are higher and prettier and you don't get bee stung." The rancher who bought a whole town because it had a beer joint, and he could get a drink any time he was thirsty. The woman who built a major university on the strength of a dime. The grieving father searching for "the best little girl in the world." The vagabond who became a great writer because he flunked grammar and could not enroll in college. The last man on the mountain, the last survivor on an island, the last woman strong enough to tame though not civilize the Okefenokee Swamp. The teacher who taught history in school by singing the lessons he had written as songs. The men who created "Lum and Abner." The scientist digging for clues to prove a space ship had crashed in the backyard of Aurora, Texas. The performer who rescued the abandoned remains of a crumbling theater. The actor who figured out that a theater ticket was worth a mess of greens or a gallon milk during the Great Depression. The old con artist and wildcatter who defied the odds and discovered a great oilfield. The politician who had one cause, passed it in the legislature, and went home because there were no other bills that concerned him. The fishermen who stumbled across pearls in a landlocked lake. The girl singer who rode in a small RV behind the star until she became the star. The sad journey down the trail of broken promises. And the greatest worm fiddler of them all. For Pirtle, other voices in other towns, have all been joined together to form the traveler's story.

Book A Life s Journey

Download or read book A Life s Journey written by John Robert Allen and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-06-13 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Life’s Journey is a story about what led me to a spiritual level of enlightened comfort and joy. The components of the book discuss a variety of questions and thought-provoking ideas that can motivate a person to achieve the higher levels of Maslow’s theory of self-actualization. Throughout the text are stories and examples that demonstrate how some influences can hinder an individual’s positive upward movement. There are stories based on spiritual practices, research, and events that clarified the whys of my journey in life. Writing an autobiography with a twist reinforced how I traveled through life. Writing this book helped reinforce my understanding of what the benefits of spiritual development are, and it helped me learn how to appreciate a more holistic way of living. Individuals who have an interest in a spiritualistic way of believing in a higher power will benefit from this book. It discusses aspects of spiritual enlightenment with emphasis on character traits and ideas that can either influence life’s journey or hinder it. This work will give the reader life stories and issues that many folks deal with—sometimes with no success or comfort. There are references and stories about issues from early childhood to adolescence, to middle age, and to later life experiences that show how experiences can motivate a person to move forward or fear moving ahead. A Life’s Journey is designed to give the reader encouragement and reinforcement for life’s pathway that can be appreciated at any age.
