Download or read book The Christiansen Family Collection Take a Chance on Me It Had to Be You When I Fall in Love Always on My Mind The Wonder of You You re the One That I Want written by Susan May Warren and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 2170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection bundles all 6 volumes of Susan May Warren’s charming Christiansen Family novels together in one e-book, for a great value! Take a Chance on Me (2014 Christy Award winner!): Darek Christiansen would be a dream bachelor, except for the wounded heart he’s been nursing since the tragic death of his wife, Felicity. New assistant county attorney Ivy Madison simply doesn’t know any better when she bids on Darek at the Deep Haven charity auction. Nor does she know that a plea bargain she crafted three years ago kept the man responsible for Felicity’s death out of jail. Caught between new love and old grudges, Darek must decide if he can set aside the past for a future with Ivy. It Had to Be You: Eden Christiansen never imagined cheering on her younger brother Owen—a reckless NHL rookie—would keep her on the sidelines of her own life, with little time to focus on her own career. Owen could use a mentor . . . but she knows better than to expect help from team veteran Jace Jacobsen. Now at a crossroads about his future in hockey, Jace's bad-boy reputation has him trapped. And the guilt-trip he's getting from Eden Christiansen isn't making things any easier. But when Owen's carelessness leads to a career-threatening injury, Eden and Jace begin to wonder if they belong on the same team after all. When I Fall in Love (2015 Christy Award finalist!): Hawaii was the last place Grace Christiansen ever imagined she'd vacation, much less fall in love. But when her family surprises her with a cooking retreat in paradise, she is thrown headfirst into an adventure. Max Sharpe may make his living on the ice as a pro hockey player, but he feels most at home in the kitchen. Which is why he takes a three-week culinary vacation each year in Hawaii. Upon being paired with Grace for a cooking competition, Max finds himself drawn to her passion, confidence, and perseverance. But as his secrets unfold, Grace is torn between the safe path in front of her and what her heart truly desires. Always on My Mind: After a failed dig, aspiring archaeologist Casper Christiansen heads home to Minnesota to face his feelings for Raina Beaumont. But when he arrives unannounced on her doorstep, he receives quite a shock: Raina is pregnant. Heartbroken, especially when he discovers the identity of the baby's father, Casper tables his dreams and determines to help his older brother prepare the family resort for its grand reopening. But one of Casper's new jobs constantly brings him into contact with Raina, whom he can't seem to forget. The Wonder of You: Mortified after her year abroad is cut short, Amelia Christiansen returns to Deep Haven, certain she isn't brave enough for the adventures she's dreamed of. The last thing she expects is for the man who broke her heart to cross the Atlantic and beg forgiveness. Heir to a European hotel dynasty, Roark St. John has trekked from one exotic locale to another, haunted by tragedy and family expectations. He'll do anything for a second chance with Amelia. But Roark's continued presence only highlights the questions pursuing her. Could finding her new place mean leaving home behind? You’re the One That I Want: An injury ended Owen Christiansen’s NHL career, but a job on an Alaskan crabbing boat offers a fresh start, maybe even a shot at romance with Elise “Scotty” McFlynn, the captain's daughter. Scotty, however, doesn't believe in happily ever after—especially with someone like Owen. Her instinct is confirmed when Casper Christiansen arrives to drag his prodigal brother home, only to be detained in connection to a crime back in Minnesota. As part of her new job on the Anchorage police force, Scotty must escort both brothers to Deep Haven, where she is thrust into an unfamiliar world of family, faith, and fresh starts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of the Japanese who immigrated to Hawaii around the turn of the present century, worked as forced laborers on the sugar plantations, and afterwards remained in Hawaii to work as free men and to raise families. It is the story also of their children, born and raised in Hawaii, and who, during World War II, won fame and glory for themselves and their country on the bloody battlefields of Italy and southern Europe. But more than all of this, it is the story of the fate of the original immigrants during World War II. Rounded up by a panic-stricken American Government after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, these people were sent to the mainland to spend the war years being confined in one refugee camp after another, all while their sons were winning fame as American combat troops. And finally, it is the story of these elderly people who, at the end of the war, became free men once again and were allowed to return to their beloved Hawaii to live out their lives in peace.

Book An American Girl in the Hawaiian Islands

Download or read book An American Girl in the Hawaiian Islands written by Sandra E. Bonura and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2012-09-30 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When twenty-three-year-old Carrie Prudence Winter caught her first glimpse of Honolulu from aboard the Zealandia in October 1890, she had "never seen anything so beautiful." She had been traveling for two months since leaving her family home in Connecticut and was at last only a few miles from her final destination, Kawaiaha'o Female Seminary, a flourishing boarding school for Hawaiian girls. As the daughter of staunch New England Congregationalists, Winter had dreamed of being a missionary teacher as a child and reasoned that "teaching for a few years among the Sandwich Islands seemed particularly attractive" while her fiancé pursued a science degree. During her three years at Kawaiaha'o, Winter wrote often and at length to her "beloved Charlie"; her lively and affectionate letters provide readers with not only an intimate look at nineteenth-century courtship, but many invaluable details about life in Hawai'i during the last years of the monarchy and a young woman's struggle to enter a career while adjusting to surroundings that were unlike anything she had ever experienced. In generous excerpts from dozens of letters, Winter describes teaching and living with her pupils, her relationships with fellow teachers, and her encounters with Hawaiian royalty (in particular Kawaiaha'o enjoyed the patronage of Queen Lili'uokalani, whose adopted daughter was enrolled as a pupil) and members of influential missionary families, as well as ordinary citizens. She discusses the serious health concerns (leprosy, smallpox, malaria) that irrevocably affected the lives of her students and took a keen (if somewhat naive) interest in relaying the political turmoil that ended in the annexation of the Hawaiian Islands by the U.S. in 1898. The book opens with a magazine article written by Winter and published while she was still teaching at Kawaiaha'o, which humorously recounts her journey from Connecticut to Hawai'i and her arrival at the seminary. The work is augmented by more than fifty photographs, four autobiographical student essays, and an appendix identifying all of Winter's students and others mentioned in the letters. A foreword by education historian C. Kalani Beyer provides a context for understanding the Euro-centric and assimilationist curriculum promoted by early schools for Hawaiians like Kawaiaha'o Female Seminary and later the Kamehameha Schools and Mid-Pacific Institute.

But when I learn he and his two Special Forces roommates need me to act as a "wife" as well, what's a cold Minnesota girl to do? Jace is everything every girl dreams about: six and a quarter feet of pure muscle wrapped in Green Beret camo and Army tactical gear. It doesn't hurt that his broad chest is decorated with a whole rainbow of ribbons and medals. Or that his two closest friends - Merrick and Aurelius - are also his brothers-in-arms, their inseparable bonds forged in the white-hot fires of combat. But Jace needs a favor... and that favor requires me. His very freedom relies on a little white lie, and with the help of his roommates, we need to pull off the illusion of being a happily married couple. Yet living with three ripped, gorgeous soldiers is fraught with its own set of perils. Merrick's a hotshot chopper pilot with shoulders for days, smoldering blue eyes, and a lady-killer smile. And Aurelius is a Navy SEAL with the chiseled build of a Greek god, as well as an accent so exotic it melts me into a puddle whenever I'm around him. It turns out these boys need favors of their own, and I'm only happy to oblige. But they also harbor a butterfly-inducing secret: as with everything else in their closed little universe, this trio of soldiers likes to share. Can a lonely Minnesota girl actually fall for her brother's best friend and his two incredible house-mates? Or is my secret "marriage" doomed to failure before the honeymoon even starts? SECRET WIFE TO THE SPECIAL FORCES is a military reverse harem love story filled with suspense, humor, and love three times hot enough to melt your kindle into a bubbling pile of plastic and glass (author not responsible for molten kindles). But that was then! Now she fights for mighty Viking gods with the spectacular and vicious Crows. But things are turning very bad, very quickly because a vengeful, ancient goddess has come into the world with just one thing on her mind—ending it. And the only way they can hope to stop her is if the Crows join forces with their one-time enemies, the Protectors, a Viking Clan created to do nothing but kill every Crow they see. Thankfully, Protector Ski Eriksen is a peace-loving kind of guy. Because the woman he is desperately trying to get close to is the beautiful and not-very-chatty Jace. Battling Nordic clans? Unkillable goddesses? Jace’s mean-spirited dog? None of these things would ever get in the way of a true Viking! The queen of humorous paranormal romances continues to keep her title with her latest series—Call of the Crows.
