Book Journey Into Light

Download or read book Journey Into Light written by Ganesan Venkataraman and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The name of Raman is familiar to science not only through the effect that bears his name, but also due to derivative names such as stimulated Raman scattering and Raman laser. However, other than that he won the Nobel Prize, little is generally know about the man himself. But the story is fascinating. Raman fiercely cherished his independence and rejected government support for his research. A sharp critic of many government policies, he was often misunderstood and maligned, though his commitment to science and to its growth in India never wavered. Venkataraman's account deals with all these aspects of Raman's life and work, besides placing them in a proper perspective vis-a-vis the overall Indian scene. Numerous quotations help capture the mood and excitement of those times. The book is not only a lively biography of a colorful personality, but also required reading for anyone with a serious interest in and concern for Indian science.

Book excerpt: Moonlight, starlight, the ethereal glow of snow in winter. When you flick off a switch, other forms of light begin to reveal themselves. Artificial light is everywhere. Not only is it damaging to humans and to wildlife, disrupting our natural rhythms, but it obliterates the subtler lights that have guided us for millennia. In this beautifully written exploration of the power of light, Matt Gaw ventures forth into darkness to find out exactly what we're missing: walking by the light of the moon in Suffolk and under the scattered buckshot of starlight in Scotland; braving the darkest depths of Dartmoor; investigating the glare of 24/7 London and the suburban sprawl of Bury St Edmunds; and, finally, rediscovering a sense of the sublime on the Isle of Coll. Under the Stars is an inspirational and immersive call to reconnect with the natural world, showing how we only need to step outside to find that, in darkness, the world lights up.

Download or read book Saltypie written by Tim Tingle and published by Cinco Puntos Press. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bee stings on the backside! That was just the beginning. Tim was about to enter a world of the past, with bullying boys, stones and Indian spirits of long ago. But they were real spirits, real stones, very real memories… In this powerful family saga, author Tim Tingle tells the story of his family’s move from Oklahoma Choctaw country to Pasadena, TX. Spanning 50 years, Saltypie describes the problems encountered by his Choctaw grandmother—from her orphan days at an Indian boarding school to hardships encountered in her new home on the Gulf Coast. Tingle says, “Stories of modern Indian families rarely grace the printed page. Long before I began writing, I knew this story must be told.” Seen through the innocent eyes of a young boy, Saltypie — a 2011 Skipping Stones honor book, WordCraft Circle 2012 Children's Literature Award-winner, and winner of the 2011 Paterson Prize for Books for Young People in the category of Grades 4-6 — is the story of one family’s efforts to honor the past while struggling to gain a foothold in modern America. Tim Tingle, a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, is a sought-after storyteller for folklore festivals, library conferences, and schools across America. At the request of Choctaw Chief Pyle, Tim tells a story to the tribe every year before Pyle’s State of the Nation Address at the Choctaw Labor Day Gathering. Tim’s previous and often reprinted books from Cinco Puntos Press—Walking the Choctaw Road and Crossing Bok Chitto—received numerous awards, but what makes Tim the proudest is the recognition he receives from the American Indian communities. Karen Clarkson, a Choctaw tribal member, is a self-taught artist who specializes in portraits of Native Americans. She did not start painting until after her children had left home; she has since been widely acclaimed as a Native American painter. She lives in San Leandro, California.

Book From Queer To Christ

Download or read book From Queer To Christ written by George Carneal and published by George Carneal. This book was released on 2016-08-28 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: George Carneal, author of "From Queer to Christ," grew up in the '70s, raised by a Southern Baptist minister in the ultra-conservative Bible Belt. For years he struggled with his Christian faith and a same-sex attraction. George shares his painful journey through a queer culture fantasyland filled with drag queens, drugs, and dangerous situations, a secular world at odds with homosexuality, in addition to a religious world that is hostile to homosexuals before discovering healing, joy, and peace in Christ. Perhaps sharing his journey through the eyes, and mind, of a confused child dealing with a same-sex attraction will give some insight into the pain and difficulty of navigating these two worlds. George would eventually spend 25 years immersed in the homosexual lifestyle (mostly in the Los Angeles club scene) and shares the pitfalls of that life. His story is not about glamorizing a life he once lived. This is merely his journey and what he learned along the way. Deliverance from that bondage is possible. There is hope in Christ! George is a frequent speaker at churches and conferences, has appeared on numerous television and radio broadcasts, as well as contributing quotes to online articles for LifeSite News, Christian Life Magazine, Tennessee Conservative News, and The Christian Post. Mark, her father, kidnaps her and takes her and her brothers to the Pacific Northwest when she is six years old. At the age of twelve she begins running away. The police find her and return her to her father. She gets into more and more trouble and danger until the State of Washington takes her and places her in foster homes. This is her story, set in the fifties, but can be the story of millions of girls and boys of today. Mark is Linda’s father. He is cruel both physically and mentally to his children and to any woman that makes the mistake of getting involved with him. He has the State authorities fooled and is getting further and further out of hand and very dangerous. He has committed several murders, starting with the man his eldest daughter lives with in West Virginia. He commits murders and robberies across the U.S., which finally ends with him sitting on death row at the Washington State Penitentiary awaiting the hangman’s noose. Pearl is Linda’s mother. Pearl was forced to marry Mark after he rapes her. Her father feels that she has been dirtied and will not allow her to marry the man she loves, Joe. Finally after several children, years of abuse and the killing of her daughters’ boyfriend she divorces Mark. She finally marries Joe and is happy for several years. Mark shows up again and shoots Joe leaving him a quadriplegic. Pearl finally opens a whorehouse to earn a living. Walt and Dean Nielson have been taking care of Welfare children for several years when Linda is brought into their home. Because of her gentle, loving ways they learn to love her as they do their own four children. These two people show her the love and trust no one has ever given her. They expect nothing but respect and for her to be herself. They teach her to have fun, playing and working with the other people living in the house. They move from Pasco to the Columbia River Gorge and take Linda with them. Their new house is a huge old farmhouse. The rooms are large and there is space for everyone. Their home is always filled with laughter, fun and love. It is always filled to the brim with children of all nationalities, up to fifteen, besides their own four. But still Linda can’t keep from running away when trouble rears its ugly head.

Book Journey Into Light

Download or read book Journey Into Light written by Edna Tardiff and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edna was born and reared in a tiny community tightly related by religion, if not by blood, on the Canadian border in northern Maine. Every facet and thought of her life centered in the church of her fathers, its ceremonies traditions, teachings, and holidays. All else was anathema, false, forbidden, damning. Read the gripping story, in her own words, of her journey from this darkness into the light of joyful freedom in the truth of the Scriptures. In correspondence with a close relative who sought to reclaim her from apostasy to the church of her childhood, she presents Biblical answers to some of the errors of her former belief. Note her hearty reply: What would you do if, after being in a dark dungeon and being released, you were standing in the glorious sunlight? Would you go back in the dungeon?

Book excerpt: They say that the moonlit hours are the realm of the sorrowful poet. These well traveled moments lit by candle and starlight are the road that poets and warriors tread unseen. We depart from the sea and from the war drenched sands of a desert as to home we return. This is the journey of many and the road of a healer-poet that alludes to the present lain over the construct of the seas, oceans, and ancient desert sands. A voyage through years and of lands far away is where you now shall find yourself drawn into. It is the span of decades to which we now turn for illumination of an informal history transcribed within these pages. Prepare yourself for the journey ahead as it is not for the faint of heart. I welcome you to light a candle by which to read with the moon and stars of night as your companion on this journey just as they were once mine. Come now with me into the pages of time lost to the annals of history.I bid you welcome to a Voyage of Light.

Book A Journey from Darkness to Light

Download or read book A Journey from Darkness to Light written by Mahmoud Mansi and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-04-27 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does knowledge make us see things we don't want to see? Why does it make us suffer more than it makes us happy? Why do we exist in a world with dominating curses more than blessings? Why can't we define the true meaning of happiness, and barely smell its odor? When are we going to finally start asking the right questions? Why are we down here on this planet, asked to seek perfection in an imperfect world? What was the true reason behind making Prophet Adam eat from the forbidden tree? When do artists finally reach their point of perfection? If human beings, animals and insects have their own psychology, what about other creatures among which are invisible ones? Not all explanations are mentioned in books But till when will we have questions without any answers? Searching for a way, some souls ask: Why does darkness exist, while light seems endless? We search for the key chain, while we don't even know which door is the right one! But, who's she; who astonished his life, captured the sundered pieces of his heart, and brought him the keys to tons of buried secrets the one who didn't fear touching his wounds, and the one who anticipated all his moves? Some masts are old enough to be one of the antiques the sea carries or swallows, yet it still supports the deck, controls the ship, and above its towering apex, it guides the captain It's still a lively organ in the giant space of the sea. He stood there, his body straight and solid as a mast, while erecting from such bemusements with the strength of a sailor, the knowledge of a captain and the vision of an artist, he sailed for his journey, toward the endless seas of the Universe
