Book excerpt: There are times in our lives, which I call stepping stones, when we are forced to pause from life's routines and focus solely on maintaining our balance before we can move forward. Some stepping stones are large, smooth and easy to spot, while others are jagged, uneven and partly covered. Stepping stones are meant to take us somewhere but we don't always know where they will lead. If we reach out to God, He will take each of us by the hand and lead us, one stepping stone at a time. Stepping Stones outlines some of the qualities God wants to develop in us and common pitfalls we might encounter as we grow deeper, bolder, and stronger in our faith. Included are personal stories from my life. God is guiding us into a deeper understanding of Himself and the magnitude of His love. When we allow God to take the lead in our lives, His love is so deep, so secure, and so creative that it opens up vistas of opportunity for us and empowers us to fully live out our God-given potential.

Book excerpt: What if it is death that teaches us how to truly live? Keeping the end in mind shapes how we live our lives in the here and now. Living life backward means taking the one thing in our future that is certain—death—and letting that inform our journey before we get there. Looking to the book of Ecclesiastes for wisdom, Living Life Backward was written to shake up our expectations and priorities for what it means to live "the good life." Considering the reality of death helps us pay attention to our limitations as human beings and receive life as a wondrous gift from God—freeing us to live wisely, generously, and faithfully for God's glory and the good of his world.

Book excerpt: This book is a work years in the making. The devotions you see in this book are truly, life changing moments in Stacy's life, written down in her personal journal. Through simple daily experiences, the Holy Spirit leads many into a closer walk with Abba. Stacy shares her own struggles, heartbreaks and restoration through several of her best written devotionals. While many authors write over 100 devotionals in their books that basically repeat the same message, Stacy chose to keep her book short so you can experience different ways Abba communicated truth to her regarding aspects of growth without repeated themes. Stepping Stones will: Allow the reader to discern the voice of Abba in a real and personal way. Experience freedom from guilt and shame caused by a straying spouse. Help the reader understand that Abba uses simple practical ways to speak the deepest truths to our hearts. Give us a glimpse of our own inadequacies and turn them into instrumental strengths. Each devotional is followed up with a "Closet Time" reflective page that asks the hard questions that prompts the reader to meditate on the story, the Scripture references, and the application to their personal lives. A handy notes section will allow the reader to expound on their personal experiences and things that they want to work on. "Stepping Stones" is just the first of many wonderful devotionals from Stacy. She hopes and prays that each person reading it will experience the joy and restoration she now lives in.

You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book Stepping Stones of the Steward

Download or read book Stepping Stones of the Steward written by Ronald E. Vallet and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1994 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand book and is therefore non- returnable. Taking the images of "journey" and "steward" as metaphors for the Christian's life, and using parables of Jesus found in Matthew and Luke, Ronald Vallet helps focus a truly biblical understanding of the term steward and the role of believers as earthly caretakers, neighbors, and responsible servants of God. Written to inform and encourage pastors and laypersons who seek to explore new dimensions in their Christian journey, Vallet's inspirational study teaches Christians how to gain a sense of purpose, how to properly use their resources, talents, and money, and how to reach out with compassion for the welfare of others and for the planet. This revised and enlarged edition includes important new discussions in the areas of faith and money and environmental issues. M. Douglas Meeks has written the foreword, and a new epilogue by Vallet explores the mission funding crisis of the church in North America, the changing views on both the church and its mission, and the important role played by theological education. Thought-provoking questions and suggestions for further reflection follow each chapter, and a study guide outlines ways to adapt this volume to adult and youth church and school classes, planning groups, conferences, and small-group settings.
