Book excerpt: Is this generation looking the end of the world squarely in the face? Many fears are wrapped up in global issues and events and whether they signal "doomsday," or the end of the world as we know it. That is the very thing this book is all about. In his weekly commentaries for www.raptureready.com, the number-one Bible prophecy site on the Internet, Terry James carefully analyzes the scenarios that Jesus and the prophets of the Bible foretold will precede Christ’s Second Coming. Last-Days Diary presents these commentaries in a journal format to give a running narrative of what in the world has been going on for the past two years. This insight helps readers know what to make of headlines and happenings in light of biblical prophecy, and it unveils just how near we are to the Tribulation hour. Israel is back in the Holy Land and in the spotlight of world attention. Jerusalem is the cause of great controversy. The world’s monetary systems are in chaos. Computer and surveillance technologies threaten to end liberty around the globe. The progression of these prophesied issues and the march of these unfolding events ignites a burning necessity to look more deeply into these matters so critical to our immediate future.

Download or read book Godsends written by William Desmond and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Godsends is William Desmond’s newest addition to his masterwork on the borderlines between philosophy and theology. For many years, William Desmond has been patiently constructing a philosophical project—replete with its own terminology, idiom, grammar, dialectic, and its metaxological transformation—in an attempt to reopen certain boundaries: between metaphysics and phenomenology, between philosophy of religion and philosophical theology, between the apocalyptic and the speculative, and between religious passion and systematic reasoning. In Godsends, Desmond’s newest addition to his ambitious masterwork, he presents an original reflection on what he calls the “companioning” of philosophy and religion. Throughout the book, he follows an itinerary that has something of an Augustinian likeness: from the exterior to the interior, from the inferior to the superior. The stations along the way include a grappling with the default atheism prevalent in contemporary intellectual culture; an exploration of the middle space, the metaxu between the finite and the infinite; a dwelling with solitudes as thresholds between selving and the sacred; a meditation on idiot wisdom and transcendence in an East-West perspective; an exploration of the different stresses in the mysticisms of Aurobindo and the Arnhem Mystical Sermons; a dream monologue of autonomy, a suite of Kantian and post-Kantian variations on the story of the prodigal son; a meditation on the beatitudes as exceeding virtue, in light of Aquinas’s understanding; and culminating in an exploration of Godsends as telling us something significant about the surprise of revelation in word, idea, and story. Godsends is written for thoughtful persons and scholars perplexed about the place of religion in our time and hopeful for some illuminating companionship from relevant philosophers. It will also interest students of philosophy and religion, especially philosophical theology and philosophical metaphysics.

Book Productive Christian Journal

Download or read book Productive Christian Journal written by Brandon Hilgemann and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This journal changed my life. In 2015, I was working full-time as a pastor and pulling late nights to get a masters degree in theology. My wife was also working night shifts as a nurse, and we had two little kids at home. So she had the kids in the morning, I had them after work, and we saw each other somewhere in between. Worse still, I was unhealthy and miserable because I was so busy doing everything else that I wasn't taking care of myself. My life was out of control. I was spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally drained. I needed a better way to stay focused on the most important things and get more done. So in 2016, I began playing around with this productivity journaling system, making small tweaks as I went along. Using this system over the next few years, I started waking up early, studying the Bible more, exercising daily, spending more time with my family, and accomplishing big goals with the little time I had. I graduated with honors, wrote two books, and unexpectedly stepped into God's call to be a writer. The journal didn't do the work for me, but it sure helped.I created this journal for myself. But if you need help getting more done, staying focused on your goals, and starting a daily routine to change your life, it'll help you too.

Download or read book The End of Everything written by Katie Mack and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK OF 2020 NAMED A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR BY * THE WASHINGTON POST * THE ECONOMIST * NEW SCIENTIST * PUBLISHERS WEEKLY * THE GUARDIAN From one of the most dynamic rising stars in astrophysics, an “engrossing, elegant” (The New York Times) look at five ways the universe could end, and the mind-blowing lessons each scenario reveals about the most important concepts in cosmology. We know the universe had a beginning. With the Big Bang, it expanded from a state of unimaginable density to an all-encompassing cosmic fireball to a simmering fluid of matter and energy, laying down the seeds for everything from black holes to one rocky planet orbiting a star near the edge of a spiral galaxy that happened to develop life as we know it. But what happens to the universe at the end of the story? And what does it mean for us now? Dr. Katie Mack has been contemplating these questions since she was a young student, when her astronomy professor informed her the universe could end at any moment, in an instant. This revelation set her on the path toward theoretical astrophysics. Now, with lively wit and humor, she takes us on a mind-bending tour through five of the cosmos’s possible finales: the Big Crunch, Heat Death, the Big Rip, Vacuum Decay (the one that could happen at any moment!), and the Bounce. Guiding us through cutting-edge science and major concepts in quantum mechanics, cosmology, string theory, and much more, The End of Everything is a wildly fun, surprisingly upbeat ride to the farthest reaches of all that we know.
