Book The Book of Miracles

Download or read book The Book of Miracles written by Josie RavenWing and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we learn to believe that White people are "smarter," "better," and "more beautiful" than Black people? This book, The Belief Factor and the White Superiority Syndrome, explains how both Blacks and Whites acquire the White Superiority Syndrome: a belief or sense that White people are superior to Black people. This book explains how the White Superiority Syndrome is a direct fall-out of the religious icons and teachings of Christianity that place one aspect of the Deity, the God-force of life, in the form of a white male humanoid. This book explains that, absent some intervening agent or action, the picturing of God as a White Male humanoid is the root catalyst leading to a sense of superiority, and racism on the part of many White people, and to a sense of inadequacy and inferiority on the part of many Black people. The book makes it clear that the racial discriminations that are learned are not necessarily directly taught but are acquired subliminally from the belief system, its props, and the societal milieu. This book details a process that will neutralize the subliminal learning that now leads to the White Superiority Syndrome. This book notes it is the Black man's burden to change certain aspects of his adopted Christian belief system and of his way of "seeing" God, if he ever wishes to free himself of the inevitable sense of inferiority that he now experiences and to eliminate the roots of racism. The Belief Factor and the White Superiority Syndrome is a "must read" for students and teachers of race relations, social stratification, student achievement, and urban education; and for all Christians, both Black and White, who want to understand why their religion has not yet freed them from racism. Readers will gain insight into and a better appreciation for the everyday power and politics of the mind.

Book Finding Josie

Download or read book Finding Josie written by Wendy Bilen and published by Wisconsin Historical Society. This book was released on 2014-03-07 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a focus squarely on the Midwest, Wendy Bilen pieces together the history of her grandmother, Josie Broadhead, born in 1911 and raised on the North Dakota prairie. Josie married a Wisconsin farmer and moved to a large dairy farm outside La Crosse; along the way she began taking in people in need of a home: ". . . beggars and drunks and children of drunks, mentally ill children and children with mentally ill parents. Brothers and cousins and sisters and in-laws and strangers." By taking on these challenges that no one else wanted, Josie left an almost mythical legacy. Years after Josie's death, Bilen embarks on a journey to unearth Josie's story and quickly realizes that the search is about her, too. As she discovers her grandmother's complicated nature ("a woman proud and humble, loving and unaffectionate, strict and visionary, joyful and troubled, a woman held together by contradictions like an arch and its capstone"), she learns much about herself and her own choices. And as she breathes life into Josie and her family, friends, and neighbors, the author evokes a powerful sense of place of small towns and farms, of prairie, of Josie's home, all of which feel both fresh and satisfyingly familiar. Much more than mere memoir or family history, this dual story about Bilen's journey illuminates the surprising ways our lives intersect with our ancestors'. An extraordinary story about a seemingly ordinary woman, Finding Josie will inspire readers to explore their own family history in their own way.

Book excerpt: The Book of Miracles is a firsthand, inspiring account of the daily miracles of healing that have taken place at the Casa de Dom Inacio in the interior of Brazil. One of the worlds most famous healers, Joao de Dues (John of God), cares for hundreds and sometimes thousands of people daily, usually at eh Casa and occasionally in other parts of Brazil. Over the past four decades he has treated millions of people! Numerous cures of cancer, AIDS, blindness, asthma, drug addiction and other physical problems as well as psychological and spiritual illnesses have occurred through his work. Joao does not take credit for these miracles. With true humility, he says he has never healed anyone, but that it is God who heals. If this is the case, Joao is a singularly powerful medium of Gods work and love and an invaluable resource for those seeking healing of body, mind or spirit. The luminous and breathtaking stories within this book will stretch the beliefs of some readers, affirm and deepen the faith of others. All will receive empowering information for their own personal healing. Author Josie RavenWing has one again succeeded in combining the practical and the mystical in this, her third and most exciting book yet!
