Download or read book Rayne Delilah s Midnite Matinee written by Jeff Zentner and published by Crown Books for Young Readers. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Anyone can break your heart--Jeff Zentner can also make you laugh out loud!" --RAINBOW ROWELL, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Carry On and Eleanor & Park From the award winning author of The Serpent King comes a contemporary novel about two best friends who must make tough decisions about their futures--and the TV show they host--in their senior year of high school. And don't miss the author's highly anticipated new book, In the Wild Light! Every Friday night, best friends Delia and Josie become Rayne Ravenscroft and Delilah Darkwood, hosts of the campy creature feature show Midnite Matinee on the local cable station TV Six. But with the end of senior year quickly approaching, the girls face tough decisions about their futures. Josie has been dreading graduation, as she tries to decide whether to leave for a big university and chase her dream career in mainstream TV. And Lawson, one of the show's guest performers, a talented MMA fighter with weaknesses for pancakes, fantasy novels, and Josie, is making her tough decision even harder. Scary movies are the last connection Delia has to her dad, who abandoned the family years ago. If Midnite Matinee becomes a hit, maybe he'll see it and want to be a part of her life again. And maybe Josie will stay with the show instead of leaving her behind, too. As the tug-of-war between growing up and growing apart tests the bonds of their friendship, Josie and Delia start to realize that an uncertain future can be both monstrous...and momentous. "I laughed, cried, and fell over-the-moon in love with Rayne & Delilah's Midnite Matinee." --JENNIFER NIVEN, New York Times bestselling author of All the Bright Places and Holding Up the Universe

Book excerpt: Blood roars in Josie’s ears as they circle the tree in the deep snow. A woman lies still on the freezing ground. The howling wind lifts the last of the snow clinging to her face, exposing her lovely features, frozen in forever sleep. Detective Josie Quinn is still recovering from the killing of a beloved member of her team when she and her husband Noah receive yet more devastating news. Close to her breaking point, Josie heads to a specialist trauma retreat, set in an isolated group of log cabins in the mountains of Pennsylvania. But fear is not far behind her. Josie’s five fellow patients all seem to be hiding secrets darker than just the problems that brought them there and a storm is gathering, with thick snow coming down fast, isolating the cabins from the world below. Then one morning, Meg Cleary disappears. Having spent years living in terror of a stalker, Meg had come to the retreat to try to piece her life back together. But now, her cabin is empty, no logs are burning in her fireplace, no tracks in the snow lead to or from her door. Quickly organizing a search, Josie’s worst fear is realized when she finds Meg’s body lying in the snow, the marks around her neck revealing that her death was no accident. And this is no normal case, as Josie is stranded without her team, a phone signal or any legal authority to investigate. When she discovers that someone has placed hidden cameras inside the retreat buildings, Josie’s terror grows with the knowledge that the murderer is among them. Then another patient goes missing. With their food supplies running low and no chance of escape, Josie knows that she is in the greatest danger of her life, and that she alone has a chance to identify the killer and save the rest of the group before it’s too late… A totally compelling and unputdownable crime thriller that will have you turning the pages late into the night, from an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book and companion custom website you will find: • A comprehensive overview of the issues related to human behavior and the social environment that are important to understand for practice, updated with current and relevant information on important topics in social work. Additional relevant content, contemporary theories, and intervention modalities are incorporated throughout the text to keep students up to date with what is happening in the field. • Careful organization of chapters to first present foundational theoretical perspectives on the human condition, and then provide information on basic facets of human development, encouraging students to use conceptual lenses to inform their practice with individuals at different stages of life. Four final chapters cover theoretical foundations and issues surrounding spirituality, families and groups, organizations, and communities. These chapters offer in-depth information and discussions on mezzo and macro content. The organization of the chapters also helps students better understand how contemporary theories and approaches to issues stem from foundational theories and how they can be used to inform work with clients. • Particular emphasis on the ways in which poverty, diversity, and strengths affect human development and behavior. • The opportunity to see how the concepts fit into social work practice using case examples that open each chapter and are referred to throughout the chapter. • Interactive case studies at www.routledgesw.com/cases: Six easy-to-access fictional cases with dynamic characters and situations that students can easily reach from any computer and that provide a “learning by doing” format unavailable with any other text. Your students will have an advantage unlike any other they will experience in their social work training. • A wealth of instructor-only resources at www.routledgesw.com/hbse that provide full-text readings that link to the concepts presented in each of the chapters; a complete bank of objective and essay-type test items, all linked to current CSWE EPAS (Council on Social Work Education Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards); PowerPoint presentations to help students master key concepts; annotated links to a treasure trove of social work assets on the Internet; and a forum inviting all instructors using books in the series to communicate with each other and share ideas to improve teaching and learning. • Ideal for use in online as well as hybrid course instruction—in addition to traditional “bricks and mortar” classes. This bestseller is ideal for use in either one-semester or year-long generalist human behavior courses. Why? Because the text is concise and easily used in a one-semester course. But the text also comes with a companion set of readings, additional chapters focused on macro social work, and six unique cases that encourage your students to “learn by doing” and to apply their knowledge of human behavior to best practices. Book Expanding the Black Film Canon

Download or read book Expanding the Black Film Canon written by Lisa Doris Alexander and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the sheer diversity of recent hits from Twelve Years a Slave and Moonlight to Get Out, Black Panther, and BlackkKlansman tells us anything, it might be that there's no such thing as "black film" per se. This book is especially timely, then, in expanding our idea of what black films are and, going back to the 1960s, showing us new and interesting ways to understand them. When critics and scholars write about films from the Blaxploitation movement—such as Cotton Comes to Harlem, Shaft, Superfly, and Cleopatra Jones—they emphasize their importance as films made for black audiences. Consequently, Lisa Doris Alexander points out, a film like the highly popular, Oscar-nominated Blazing Saddles—costarring and co-written by Richard Pryor—is generally left out of the discussion because it doesn't fit the profile of what a black film of the period should be. This is the kind of categorical thinking that Alexander seeks to broaden, looking at films from the 60s to the present day in the context of their time. Applying insights from black feminist thought and critical race theory to one film per decade, she analyzes what each can tell us about the status of black people and race relations in the United States at the time of its release. By teasing out the importance of certain films excluded from the black film canon, Alexander hopes to expand that canon to include films typically relegated to the category of popular entertainment—and to show how these offer more nuanced representations of black characters even as they confront, negate, or parody the controlling images that have defined black filmic characters for decades.

The Polish Theatre Archive makes available in English translation major works of Poland's dramatic literature as well as monographs and critical studies -on Polish playwrights, theatre artists and stage history. Although he has not written anything new for the theatre since The Trap (Pulapka, 1981), Tadeusz Rozewicz remains the most provocative and original Polish playwright of the post-war period. His probing of the boundaries traditionally assigned to theatre has put him in the forefront of artistic innovators along with Kantor and Grotowski. Outstanding directors have sought to realize his work in production, despite inherent tensions between the author's radically experimental propositions and the nature of theatre itself.
