Book excerpt: "May 17, 2005. I heard a knock on the door, and Bre answered it. She came to my room and said, 'Mom, you better go to the door. There is a policeman here.' " Have you ever experienced a life-altering event? When Linda Roose received the news that her youngest son, Joshua, had been shot in the head and wasn't expected to live through the night, her world was shattered. Joshua's Story is the true account of a teenager's struggle to survive against all odds, and a mother's fight to stay positive in the midst of a parent's worst nightmare. Author and single mother Linda Roose recounts a gripping journey of faith, love, and hope and provides shocking insight into her personal struggles as she learns to accept the loss of the son she once knew as well as how to live again. Joshua's Story takes readers through a three-year period of grief, acceptance, and hope for a better future. Joshua is a remarkable soldier for God, which becomes clear as his mother shares his sorrow and joy with the world to prove that with God, all things are possible.

Book The Anglo Norman Bible s Book of Joshua

Download or read book The Anglo Norman Bible s Book of Joshua written by Brent A. Pitts and published by . This book was released on 2020-12-28 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Anglo-Norman Bible's Joshua includes tales of spies, giants, the prostitute Rahab, the punishment of Achan, oracles, and Joshua's brilliant military victories. Joshua stops the sun. The first half of the book relates Joshua's stunning conquests in Canaan. The second half, the apportionment of the land among the tribes, detailed geographical surveys of territorial boundaries, and the death of Joshua. Skilful, well-paced story telling is a feature of the ANB's Joshua. To the accounts of Rahab and Achan we may add the chronicle of Joshua's successful, crushing campaign in the wake of the destruction of Makkedah. In rapid succession, and in an annalistic style involving staccato repetition of key phrases, the narrator relates the destruction of Libnah, Lachish, Eglon, Hebron, and Debir. The text of the ANB's Joshua is extant in British Library Royal 1 C III (base manuscript, L) and Paris, Bibliotheque nationale de France, MS francais 1 (P), both c. 1350 and both the Bibles of kings. L belonged at some point in the fifteenth century to Reading's Benedictine abbey, entering the royal library in 1530. Characteristic of L is its occasional insertion of short glosses in English or Latin to clarify or correct the Anglo-Norman text. An illustrated text, P was prepared by an English workshop for the fourth baron de Welles, John, and his wife, Maud, daughter of William, Lord Ros. This is clearly the Bible of a wealthy and well-connected English family. After the Welles family, the manuscript belonged to Louis de Bruges (1492), then to King Louis XII of France.

Download or read book Joshua written by Trent Hunter and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2016-07-18 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on every page of the Bible. At God’s command and under Joshua’s leadership, the nation of Israel invaded the land of Canaan—the land God had promised his people. Thus, the book of Joshua records a key period in God’s plan to redeem his people from slavery in Egypt. Connecting the story of Joshua to God’s larger promises, pastor Trent Hunter offers readers rich insights into the book’s overarching story of salvation and the ultimate rest offered to all who trust in Christ for salvation—helping them apply its message to their lives today.

Book Joshua and the Flow of Biblical History

Download or read book Joshua and the Flow of Biblical History written by Francis A. Schaeffer and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2004-01-08 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Joshua brings to life real history during the crucial period of transition for the Israelites as they follow God's direction and settle in the promised land. Israel needed discipline in light of their newfound freedom. They faced the responsibility of living as a covenant people while adapting to change. Joshua describes the historic shift from the revelation of God's promises to their realization. God's care of his people becomes obvious, and their struggle with disobedience, selfishness, and fear is very human. Francis Schaeffer's thoughts on the book of Joshua show readers the historic, spiritual, and intellectual nourishment available for the Christian life through the examples of Joshua and his fellow Israelites. In the book of Joshua, Schaeffer finds that God reveals his sorrow over human sin, as well as his gracious love for his people. This is as true for us as it was for those in Joshua's time. This study of the settling of Israel will inspire readers to see the hand of God present in all of history, including today.

Book The Crucifixion of the Warrior God

Download or read book The Crucifixion of the Warrior God written by Gregory A. Boyd and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2017-04-17 with total page 1487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dramatic tension confronts every Christian believer and interpreter of Scripture: on the one hand, we encounter images of God commanding and engaging in horrendous violence: one the other hand, we encounter the non-violent teachings and example of Jesus, whose loving, self-sacrificial death and resurrection is held up as the supreme revelation of God’s character in the New Testament. How do we reconcile the tension between these seemingly disparate depictions? Are they even capable of reconciliation? Throughout Christian history, many different answers have been proposed, ranging from the long-rejected explanation that these contrasting depictions are of two entirely different ‘gods’ to recent social and cultural theories of metaphor and narrative representation. The Crucifixion of the Warrior God takes up this dramatic tension and the range of proposed answers in an epic constructive investigation. Over two volumes, renowned theologian and biblical scholar Gregory A. Boyd argues that we must take seriously the full range of Scripture as inspired, including its violent depictions of God. At the same time, we must take just as seriously the absolute centrality of the crucified and risen Christ as the supreme revelation of God. Developing a theological interpretation of Scripture that he labels a “cruciform hermeneutic,” Boyd demonstrates how Scripture’s violent images of God are completely reframed and their violence subverted when they are interpreted through the lens of the cross and resurrection. Indeed, when read through this lens, Boyd argues that these violent depictions can be shown to bear witness to the same self-sacrificial character of God that was supremely revealed on the cross.

Book The World s Oldest Alphabet

Download or read book The World s Oldest Alphabet written by Douglas Petrovich and published by Hendrickson Academic. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For about 150 years, scholars have attempted to identify the language of the world's first alphabetic script, and to translate some of the inscriptions that use it. Until now, their attempts have accomplished little more than identifying most of the pictographic letters and translating a few of the Semitic words. With the publication of The World's Oldest Alphabet, a new day has dawned. All of the disputed letters have been resolved, while the language has been identified conclusively as Hebrew, allowing for the translation of 16 inscriptions that date from 1842 to 1446 BC. It is the author's reading that these inscriptions expressly name three biblical figures (Asenath, Ahisamach, and Moses) and greatly illuminate the earliest Israelite history in a way that no other book has achieved, apart from the Bible.
