Now she's in danger and claims he's her baby's father. Jaycee owes Josh the truth. After her reckless conduct almost got Josh killed, he's justified in not trusting her. But with the mastermind of a black market baby ring gunning for her, it's Jaycee who has to trust Josh with her life and the life of their child. Sawyer Sawyer Ryland instantly recognised her: the beautiful blonde who shared his bed only to deceive him in the end. He vowed never to trust her again, but Cassidy O'Neal's on the run from kidnappers...with a newborn in her arms. Cassidy will do anything to save her family, even flee to her ex with a baby who isn't hers — but might be Sawyer's child. The lawman's code of honour forces him to take Cassidy and the baby girl into his protection. Now both can't fight the passion between them. A passion that'll take all their willpower to ignore and every effort to survive. Christmas Rescue At Mustang Ridge Sheriff Jake McCall is about to break the law. To find a bone marrow donor for his ailing baby girl, he'll hack into WITSEC to track down Maggie Gallagher — the only person who could be a genetic match. Yet by doing so, he is jeopardising not only his badge, but also Maggie's life. Jake is unprepared for Maggie's willingness to help — and for the desire she arouses in him. He's never forgiven Eve for breaking his heart, but her anguish is hard to watch. Before he can reject the most hard–headed – yet alluring – woman in Texas, he has to protect her. An attempt on her life places them into a dangerous murder investigation – and an even more dangerous liaison. In the heat of the moment, Grayson may be able to forgive Eve but will he give her what she wants the most? Dade Kayla Brennan doesn't want Texas lawman Dade Ryland's protection. His family hates her and their attraction is too intense. When bullets start flying, Dade shields her and her baby. But she knows that Dade thinks she's in on the crime... Kayla's testimony is all Dade should want. Especially since he suspects Kayla's involved in the death of a Ryland family member. Yet the fact that they're enemies only makes the animal attraction between them stronger. And more dangerous. For the killer is not who he seems, and is far closer than Dade ever imagined. Nate When Lieutenant Nate Ryland's baby daughter is kidnapped, he finds an ally in Darcy Burkhart, a woman he never thought – never wanted – to see again. Darcy's son has also been taken and they'll do anything to bring their children home. Unfortunately this is no ordinary adversary. And though Nate is used to dealing with the worst of society, even he can't predict the enemy's next move. As the search continues, Nate begins to admire the woman he once considered his greatest opponent – and desiring her in ways he never thought possible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kade One look at the baby girl, Kade Ryland knew he was the father. For three months, Kade had posed as Bree Winston's husband at the Fulbright Fertility Clinic, while the two FBI agents investigated illegal adoptions and surrogates. Nine months later, a baby appeared but Bree was nowhere to be found. To find Bree, Kade had to reopen a case that has become too personal. But if they were never a real couple, were Kade and Bree ready to be parents? Whatever the answer, Kade had more than one reason to close this case forever. Gage He faked his death for good reason, but CIA operative Gage Ryland has a better reason to return. Though they broke up years ago, Gage wants to save his ex-wife — his very pregnant ex-wife — Lynette Herrington from a hit man. Obviously the baby proves she's gotten over Gage. Or has she? While on the run, Gage feels sparks between them. But he knows he must fix a decade of hurt before Lynette will trust Gage again. But complicating his emotions is Lynette's pregnancy...and how her unborn child could be his. Mason Danger isn't a new thing on his ranch, but for Deputy Mason Ryland this was the final straw. Someone was targeting his family and the brooding lawman now had a new person to protect: horse trainer Abbie Baker. Abbie's arrival suspiciously coincided with the latest attack. Soon, Mason uncovers an old secret between Abbie and the Rylands. The discovery irks him, but Mason can't ignore the threats facing beautiful Abbie. As a lawman, he'll protect her during the investigation. As a man, he'll provide personal protection through the summer nights...

What truly influences our decisions in today’s message-cluttered world? In Buyology, Martin Lindstrom presents the astonishing findings from his groundbreaking three-year, seven-million-dollar neuromarketing study—a cutting-edge experiment that peered inside the brains of 2,000 volunteers from all around the world as they encountered various ads, logos, commercials, brands, and products. His startling results shatter much of what we have long believed about what captures our interest—and drives us to buy. Among the questions he explores: • Does sex actually sell? • Does subliminal advertising still surround us? • Can “cool” brands trigger our mating instincts? • Can our other senses—smell, touch, and sound—be aroused when we see a product? Buyology is a fascinating and shocking journey into the mind of today's consumer that will captivate anyone who's been seduced—or turned off—by marketers' relentless attempts to win our loyalty, our money, and our minds.

Book Hollywood Highbrow

  • Author : Shyon Baumann
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2018-06-05
  • ISBN : 0691187282
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book Hollywood Highbrow written by Shyon Baumann and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's moviegoers and critics generally consider some Hollywood products--even some blockbusters--to be legitimate works of art. But during the first half century of motion pictures very few Americans would have thought to call an American movie "art." Up through the 1950s, American movies were regarded as a form of popular, even lower-class, entertainment. By the 1960s and 1970s, however, viewers were regularly judging Hollywood films by artistic criteria previously applied only to high art forms. In Hollywood Highbrow, Shyon Baumann for the first time tells how social and cultural forces radically changed the public's perceptions of American movies just as those forces were radically changing the movies themselves. The development in the United States of an appreciation of film as an art was, Baumann shows, the product of large changes in Hollywood and American society as a whole. With the postwar rise of television, American movie audiences shrank dramatically and Hollywood responded by appealing to richer and more educated viewers. Around the same time, European ideas about the director as artist, an easing of censorship, and the development of art-house cinemas, film festivals, and the academic field of film studies encouraged the idea that some American movies--and not just European ones--deserved to be considered art.

Book When Women Invented Television

Download or read book When Women Invented Television written by Jennifer Keishin Armstrong and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New and Noteworthy —New York Times Book Review Must-Read Book of March —Entertainment Weekly Best Books of March —HelloGiggles “Leaps at the throat of television history and takes down the patriarchy with its fervent, inspired prose. When Women Invented Television offers proof that what we watch is a reflection of who we are as a people.” —Nathalia Holt, New York Times bestselling author of Rise of the Rocket Girls New York Times bestselling author of Seinfeldia Jennifer Keishin Armstrong tells the little-known story of four trailblazing women in the early days of television who laid the foundation of the industry we know today. It was the Golden Age of Radio and powerful men were making millions in advertising dollars reaching thousands of listeners every day. When television arrived, few radio moguls were interested in the upstart industry and its tiny production budgets, and expensive television sets were out of reach for most families. But four women—each an independent visionary— saw an opportunity and carved their own paths, and in so doing invented the way we watch tv today. Irna Phillips turned real-life tragedy into daytime serials featuring female dominated casts. Gertrude Berg turned her radio show into a Jewish family comedy that spawned a play, a musical, an advice column, a line of house dresses, and other products. Hazel Scott, already a renowned musician, was the first African American to host a national evening variety program. Betty White became a daytime talk show fan favorite and one of the first women to produce, write, and star in her own show. Together, their stories chronicle a forgotten chapter in the history of television and popular culture. But as the medium became more popular—and lucrative—in the wake of World War II, the House Un-American Activities Committee arose to threaten entertainers, blacklisting many as communist sympathizers. As politics, sexism, racism, anti-Semitism, and money collided, the women who invented television found themselves fighting from the margins, as men took control. But these women were true survivors who never gave up—and thus their legacies remain with us in our television-dominated era. It's time we reclaimed their forgotten histories and the work they did to pioneer the medium that now rules our lives. This amazing and heartbreaking history, illustrated with photos, tells it all for the first time.
