Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the most serious crises facing our nation and the world is the crisis of fatherhood. Indeed, if the world is to be converted, the Church must be renewed. If the macro-Church is to be renewed, the micro church of the family must be restored. And if the family is to be restored and re-vitalized, the man who is both husband and father must become who God has created him to be - a father on earth like the Father in heaven. Joseph's Way: The Call to Fatherly Greatness, Part I: Prayer of Faith is the first in a four book series that comprises an in-depth vision of the human father as seen through the lens of St. Joseph and the patriarchs. By comparing Abraham the 'Father in Faith', with St. Joseph the just father who lived by faith fathers will discover the power of their vocation and their essential role in rebuilding society. Joseph's Way: The Call to Fatherly Greatness, Part I: Prayer of Faith helps men become great fathers by re-discovering the hidden greatness of fatherhood.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth foundational Pillar of authentic fatherhood, the Prayer of a King, is the prayer of a father to commission his child to build the temple of the Holy Spirit in the child's person. The three components of the Prayer of a King are: first, a father's aspiration to build the temple and a sharing of this divine desire with one's own child; second, teaching or giving the child the 'materials' to build the temple of the Holy Spirit in the child's person, and third, the commissioning and blessing of the child by the father to go forth and build the temple. The confusion amongst the children of the world, the ever-increasing worship of the self-made temple, and the scattering of the flock rather than the unification of mankind in God, could be healed, to a great extent if fathers would aspire to assist their child in the project of building the temple of the Holy Spirit by teaching and blessing. The Prayer of a King demands a father to receive and accept responsibility for his role as teacher, which begins with discipline marked by self-giving love, expressed primarily in the discipline of work within the context of the family. By comparing and contrasting the fatherhood of King David with the fatherhood of the underground King Joseph, fathers will be encouraged to fulfill the dream of empowering their children in the project of building the holy temple of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life of Joseph provides several life lessons to be applied to our life's journey. For me, the account of Joseph is probably the closest experience to compare with my life. I believe as you read this book, you will find this to be the case in your life as well. I find it very interesting that prior to any written form of instructions or commandments, Joseph knew what it meant to conduct his affairs in a way that I consider to be supernatural. Although he found himself in very difficult situations, Joseph possessed an ability to find the solution to his problems by listening to voice of God through his dreams and the dreams of others. As believers, we recognize Joseph's experiences as divine favor. We recognize and acknowledge Joseph's experiences to be as being part of the unmerited favor and grace of God. It is obvious that Joseph recognized and effectively walked in this divine favor by exercising his trust in God to fulfill His promises. Although the Holy Spirit did not indwell man at the time of Joseph's era, the gift to interpret dreams performed the same operational affect as one of the gifts of the Spirit given to the believer today. I believe that gift to be the word of wisdom. Today, believers can operate in this gift when interpreting dreams and visions. There are several examples in Scripture before and after the resurrection of Messiah where dreams and visions were interpreted before fulfillment. In the late Dr. Lester Sumrall's book, The Gifts and Ministries of the Holy Spirit, he identifies several great men of God in the Old Testament who exercised the gift of the word of wisdom. It was Dr. Sumrall who held the position that several of the prophets of old were endowed with the gift of a word of wisdom. Dr. Sumrall made the following statement about Joseph, "The Holy Spirit can convey the word of wisdom in many ways. To Joseph it was the interpreting of a dream of the future. When Joseph was seventeen years old, God showed him the course of his whole life the fact that he would be a great leader and how even his own brothers would bow down before him." "And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brothers, and said, Behold, I have dreamed another dream; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars bowed down to me. And he told it to his father, and to his brothers: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, what is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow down ourselves to you to the earth?" (Genesis 37:9""10, KJV). I cannot claim that Joseph's parents did not believe his dream, but it does appear they found his dream difficult to accept. It is interesting to note that the parents knew the interpretation of the dream without Joseph explaining it to them. This tells me that this practice of lessoning and interpreting one's dreams was indeed the practice of children of Israel. As time passed, Joseph's was fulfilled. The Scripture declares that God does not change. I believe that He has not changed this method of communication. Although there are different ways that God speaks to His children (primarily through His written word), the method of dreams and the interpretation of dream often provides what I like to describe as the Joseph effect.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After spending more than a millennium in relative obscurity, Saint Joseph has become the second-most mentioned saint in the papal magisterium after the Virgin Mary. To understand the life and importance of Saint Joseph, a good place to start is with the first papal title ever granted him: “Patron of the Universal Church.” What is it that Saint Joseph has to offer the Church — and each one of us — today? That’s the question that A Man Named Joseph: Guardian for Our Times seeks to answer. To get there, author, podcaster, and blogger Joe Heschmeyer cuts through a lot of our misconceptions to see what the Bible and the earliest Christians really say about Joseph as a model husband, father, and saint. Questions at the end of each chapter help guide personal reflection and group discussion. Whatever we may be facing in life, we can go to Joseph for his example, his protection, and his prayers. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Joe Heschmeyer is an instructor at the Holy Family School of Faith and the author of Who Am I, Lord? Finding Your Identity in Christ and Pope Peter: Defending the Church’s Most Distinctive Doctrine in a Time of Crisis. He cohosts The Catholic Podcast and blogs at ShamelessPopery.com. Previously, he was a litigator in Washington, D.C., and a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. He lives in the Kansas City area with his wife and two children.
