Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As America's #1 health problem, effective new tools for the addiction treatment community are scarce, of high value, and in great demand. Addiction: From Suffering to Solution is one of those tools which will prove invaluable, have a wide range of appeal and is an excellent primer for the Integrative Holistic Recovery approach. As a former police officer, Dr. Bradley knows and understands addiction from an insider's perspective, down and dirty, up close and personal. When his little girl was only two years old he discovered his wife was a chronic alcoholic. Then, when his daughter was in her late teens, he found out that she was a drug addict. The dynamics, drama and trauma of codependency and enabling became first-hand experience as Dr. Bradley surrendered to the truth about his little girl. He came to the critical understanding it was possible she might die living out on the streets, but most likely would die if he continued to enable her at home, So, he kicked her out with the understanding she could only come back home if she sought professional help. Thankfully she eventually did choose treatment, has been clean for many years and their relationship has been wonderfully restored.Presenting the most well-informed integrative perspective on addiction and recovery currently in publication, this book is excellent for individuals, families suffering the pain of addiction and especially for addiction recovery professionals. Dr. Bradley's perspective on the spiritual dimensions of recovery provides great hope for our community on the deeper meaning of 12-Step spirituality, and the healing journey both required and available that this pathway provides for any individual, and for our communities. Dr. Bradley's understanding of the relationships between all four bio/psycho/social/spiritual dimensions of the recovery lifespan is unsurpassed. For those in the treatment and recovery field who deeply understand the healing that is required and available to recover from addictive disorders of all kinds, Addiction: From Suffering To Solution provides hope that a full and complete recovery is not only possible, but promised to those who attend to this wisdom.

Book The Lost 116 Pages Reconstructing the Book of Mormon s Missing Stories

Download or read book The Lost 116 Pages Reconstructing the Book of Mormon s Missing Stories written by Don Bradley and published by Greg Kofford Books, Incorporated. This book was released on 2019-11-21 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a summer day in 1828, Book of Mormon scribe and witness Martin Harris was emptying drawers, upending furniture, and ripping apart mattresses as he desperately looked for a stack of papers he had sworn to God to protect. Those pages containing the only copy of the first three months of the Joseph Smith's translation of the golden plates were forever lost, and the detailed stories they held forgotten over the ensuing years--until now. In this highly anticipated work, author Don Bradley presents over a decade of historical and scriptural research to not only tell the story of the lost pages but to reconstruct many of the detailed stories written on them. Questions explored and answered include: Was the lost manuscript actually 116 pages? How did Mormon's abridgment of this period differ from the accounts in Nephi's small plates? Where did the brass plates and Laban's sword come from? How did Lehi's family and their descendants live the Law of Moses without the temple and Aaronic priesthood? How did the Liahona operate? Why is Joseph of Egypt emphasized so much in the Book of Mormon? How were the first Nephites similar to the very last? What message did God write on the temple wall for Aminadi to translate? How did the Jaredite interpreters come into the hands of the Nephite kings? Why was King Benjamin so beloved by his people? Despite the likely demise of those pages to the sands of time, the answers to these questions and many more are now available for the first time in nearly two centuries in The Lost 116 Pages: Reconstructing the Book of Mormon's Missing Stories.

Book excerpt: Timeless Painting presents the work of 17 contemporary painters whose works reflect a singular approach that is peculiarly of our time: they are a-temporal, a term coined by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling, the originators of the cyberpunk aesthetic. A-temporality or timelessness manifests itself in painting as an ahistoric free-for-all, where contemporaneity as an indicator of new form is nowhere to be found, and all eras co-exist. Published to accompany an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art that explores the impact of this cultural condition on contemporary painting, this publication features work by an international roster of artists including Joe Bradley, Kerstin Brätsch, Matt Connors, Nicole Eisenman, Mark Grotjahn, Charline von Heyl, , Julie Mehretu, Oscar Murillo, Laura Owens and Josh Smith, among others. An overview essay by curator Laura Hoptman is divided into thematic chapters that explore topics such as re-animation and reenactment, recontextualization, 'Zombie' painting, and the concomitant 'Frankenstein approach', which describes a process of stitching together pieces of the history of painting to create a work of art that would be dead but for its juxtaposed parts, all working in association with one another to propel the work into life.

Download or read book This Astounding Close written by Mark L. Bradley and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2006-12-29 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even after Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox, the Civil War continued to be fought, and surrenders negotiated, on different fronts. The most notable of these occurred at Bennett Place, near Durham, North Carolina, when Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston surrendered the Army of Tennessee to Union General William T. Sherman. In this first full-length examination of the end of the war in North Carolina, Mark Bradley traces the campaign leading up to Bennett Place. Alternating between Union and Confederate points of view and drawing on his readings of primary sources, including numerous eyewitness accounts and the final muster rolls of the Army of Tennessee, Bradley depicts the action as it was experienced by the troops and the civilians in their path. He offers new information about the morale of the Army of Tennessee during its final confrontation with Sherman's much larger Union army. And he advances a fresh interpretation of Sherman's and Johnston's roles in the final negotiations for the surrender.

In reality, he is assessing the strength and numbers of the British and their Hessian (German) allies. After he is sent on his way by the unsuspecting English, he reports this to General Washington and his staff. This information proves key in what became known as the Battle of White Plains.

Book Heads of Families at the Second Census of the United States Taken in the Year 1800 Vermont

Download or read book Heads of Families at the Second Census of the United States Taken in the Year 1800 Vermont written by United States. Census Office. 2d census, 1800 and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The federal census of Vermont for 1800 was never published by the government. It survived in the form of the original enumerators' sheets until 1938, when the Vermont Historical Society published it for the first time. Since the 1790 census showed Vermont's population to be 85,000 and the 1800 census indicated that it had grown to 154,396, the value of this later census to the genealogist is obvious. The records in this publication are grouped under the counties of Addison, Bennington, Caledonia, Chittenden, Essex, Franklin, Orange, Rutland, Windham, and Windsor, and thereunder by towns. Names of the heads of households are given in full and for each there is given, in tabular form, the number of free white males and females, by five age groups, and the number of other associated persons except untaxed Indians. Altogether over 25,000 families are listed. Includes a map of the state in 1796.

Book Blood Runs Coal The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America

Download or read book Blood Runs Coal The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America written by Mark A. Bradley and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vivid account of “one of the most shocking episodes in organized labor’s blood-soaked history” (Steve Halvonik, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). In the early hours of New Year’s Eve 1969, in the small soft coal mining borough of Clarksville, Pennsylvania, longtime trade union insider Joseph “Jock” Yablonski and his wife and daughter were brutally murdered in their old stone farmhouse. Behind the assassination was the corrupt president of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), Tony Boyle, who had long embezzled UMWA funds, silenced intra-union dissent, and served the interests of Big Coal companies—and would do anything to maintain power. The most infamous crimes in the history of American labor unions, the Yablonski murders catalyzed the first successful rank-and-file takeover of a major labor union in modern US history. Blood Runs Coal is an extraordinary portrait of one of the nation’s major unions on the brink of historical change.
