Book Joseph Beuys the Revolution is Us

Download or read book Joseph Beuys the Revolution is Us written by David Thistlewood and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents contributions to the conference held in conjunction with the display Joseph Beuys: the Revolution is US, mounted at the Tate Gallery Liverpool from April 1993 to January 1994. The objectives of the conference were to reveal the latest thinking on the subject of Joseph Beuys and to encourage new interpretation stimulated by the display, some of which is included here in complementary papers. The results are presented here as a number of diverging critiques, for it is evident that with increasing historical perspective the work of Beuys informs - and is informed by - a great many social and cultural issues.

Book Joseph Beuys and the Celtic Wor l d

Download or read book Joseph Beuys and the Celtic Wor l d written by Victoria Walters and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2012 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1970s, the German sculptor Joseph Beuys made a number of trips to Ireland and Scotland. This interdisciplinary study of the artist's work in the "Celtic world" assesses whether the practice shown or developed during these visits could be seen, in any sense, as a language practice - more specifically, as a "language of healing" - and whether Beuys could be said to have interpreted and performed notions of "Celticity" in these places. The book reflects on the anthropological aspect of Beuys' work and includes interview material with artists who worked with or met him during this time. Book The German Genius

    Book Details:
  • Author : Peter Watson
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2010-09-16
  • ISBN : 085720324X
  • Pages : 918 pages

Download or read book The German Genius written by Peter Watson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-09-16 with total page 918 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the end of the Baroque age and the death of Bach in 1750 to the rise of Hitler in 1933, Germany was transformed from a poor relation among western nations into a dominant intellectual and cultural force more influential than France, Britain, Italy, Holland, and the United States. In the early decades of the 20th century, German artists, writers, philosophers, scientists, and engineers were leading their freshly-unified country to new and undreamed of heights, and by 1933, they had won more Nobel prizes than anyone else and more than the British and Americans combined. But this genius was cut down in its prime with the rise and subsequent fall of Adolf Hitler and his fascist Third Reich-a legacy of evil that has overshadowed the nation's contributions ever since. Yet how did the Germans achieve their pre-eminence beginning in the mid-18th century? In this fascinating cultural history, Peter Watson goes back through time to explore the origins of the German genius, how it flourished and shaped our lives, and, most importantly, to reveal how it continues to shape our world. As he convincingly demonstarates, while we may hold other European cultures in higher esteem, it was German thinking-from Bach to Nietzsche to Freud-that actually shaped modern America and Britain in ways that resonate today.

Book We are the Revolution

Download or read book We are the Revolution written by Ulrich Rösch and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Freedom for the spiritual-cultural life, equality and democracy for human rights, initiative and solidarity for the economic sphere!" Revolutions happen when society does not change and evolve. Stagnation and resistance create a situation in which a leap in development is required. In nature, living organisms suffering from inner blockages must heal or die. The same applies to the social organism--society--which occasionally requires drastic change to avoid complete collapse or violent revolution. With his frequently repeated phrase "We are the Revolution!" the artist and social activist Joseph Beuys was intimating that true transformation develops from within, in an artistic or creative way. People are the source of metamorphosis in the social realm. But in modern times a "we" is also required--an agreement with others. The individual connects with fellow human beings, in active cooperation, as a solid foundation for healthy forms of coexistence. In a series of clear and insightful essays, Ulrich Rösch builds on the "threefold" social thinking of Rudolf Steiner, Joseph Beuys and others, presenting ideas for change in the context of twenty-first-century life. Our world has become unified through the global division of labor and interdependence, which calls for fresh thinking and rejuvenated social forms. Rösch compares the spirituality and social action of Mahatma Gandhi and Rudolf Steiner; takes the living example of a biodynamic farm as a social organism; and studies the tangible situation of the production and worldwide sale of bananas as a symptom of inequitable commerce.

Book Avant garde Performance

Download or read book Avant garde Performance written by Gunter Berghaus and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did the concept of the avant-garde come into existence? How did it impact on the performing arts? How did the avant-garde challenge the artistic establishment and avoid the pull of commercial theatre, gallery and concert-hall circuits? How did performance artists respond to new technological developments? Placing key figures and performances in their historical, social and aesthetic context, Günter Berghaus offers an accessible introduction to post-war avant-garde performance. Written in a clear, engaging style, and supported by text boxes and illustrations throughout, this volume explains the complex ideas behind avant-garde art and evocatively brings to life the work of some of its most influential performance artists. Covering hot topics such as multi-media and body art performances, this text is essential reading for students of theatre studies and performance.

Book Starting from Language

  • ISBN : 377575038X
  • Pages : 208 pages

Download or read book Starting from Language written by Nina Schallenberg and published by Hatje Cantz Verlag. This book was released on 2021-01-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Joseph Beuys Das Ende des 20 Jahrhunderts written by Susanne Willisch and published by Schirmer/Mosel. This book was released on 2007 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1984 Joseph Beuys assembled his monumental The End of the 20th Century in Haus der Kunst in Munich: 44 basalt blocks with conical sections drilled out of them, the resulting "stoppers" slotted back into place using a bed of felt and clay. He arranged the blocks to create an animated vibrant formation that charged the entire room with meaning. The relocation of the work to the new Munich Pinakothek der Moderne set an almost impossible challenge for conservators, not least owing to the fiery debate whether an aeuvre an artist had himself laid out could be touched in the first place. But in the end, they succeeded: a key late 20th-century artwork was given a new location and none of its suggestive powers had been forfeited in the process.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
