Book Joint Decision Making in Mental Health

Download or read book Joint Decision Making in Mental Health written by Camilla Lindholm and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-21 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume studies joint decision making in mental health care contexts through an in-depth examination of the negotiations of power and authority at the level of turn-by-turn sequential unfolding of interaction. Bringing together research at the intersection of mental health, discourse and conversation analysis it examines a wide range of settings including chronic psychiatric visits, rehabilitation meetings, occupational therapy encounters and cognitive behavioral therapy appointments. It presents a series of studies which reveal in close detail the joint decision-making processes in these critical encounters by using naturally occurring video-recorded interactions from a range of health service settings as data. In so doing, it sheds light on the interactional practices of health care workers that may facilitate or discourage client participation in joint decision-making processes. The book will provide important insights for academics and practitioners working in the fields of psychology, psychotherapy, applied linguistics, nursing, social work and rehabilitation; and in particular for those specializing in psychiatry and mental health.

Book Faculty Participation in Decision Making

Download or read book Faculty Participation in Decision Making written by Carol Everly Floyd and published by Study of Higher Education. This book was released on 1985 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature concerning higher education and generic organization theory is reviewed to address various questions relating to faculty participation in institutional decision-making. Attention is directed to: the rationale for faculty participation, alternative types of participation, participation in academic senates, participation by functional area, participation at the system and state levels, participation and centralization/decentralization, strengthening consultative processes, and increasing faculty satisfaction and participation. Generic organization theory provides extensive reasons why participation in organizational decision-making can improve employees' satisfaction and performance. Types of faculty participation in institutional decision-making are separate jurisdictions, shared authority, and joint participation. Faculty participation can involve curriculum design, faculty personnel status, selection and evaluation of administrators, planning, budgeting, and planning for retrenchment or financial exigency. Joint faculty and administrator efforts may focus on four important areas: rebuilding collegial foundations, shaping the consultative framework, increasing the availability of information, and facilitating group deliberations. Areas for further analysis are suggested. (SW)

Book Public Participation in Environmental Assessment and Decision Making

Download or read book Public Participation in Environmental Assessment and Decision Making written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-11-07 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Federal agencies have taken steps to include the public in a wide range of environmental decisions. Although some form of public participation is often required by law, agencies usually have broad discretion about the extent of that involvement. Approaches vary widely, from holding public information-gathering meetings to forming advisory groups to actively including citizens in making and implementing decisions. Proponents of public participation argue that those who must live with the outcome of an environmental decision should have some influence on it. Critics maintain that public participation slows decision making and can lower its quality by including people unfamiliar with the science involved. This book concludes that, when done correctly, public participation improves the quality of federal agencies' decisions about the environment. Well-managed public involvement also increases the legitimacy of decisions in the eyes of those affected by them, which makes it more likely that the decisions will be implemented effectively. This book recommends that agencies recognize public participation as valuable to their objectives, not just as a formality required by the law. It details principles and approaches agencies can use to successfully involve the public.

Book excerpt: The sixth revised edition of Industrial Relations and Labour Laws captures the significant developments that have taken place in the realm of labour laws and industrial relations in the recent past. The most notable development in the legislative sphere is the amendment in the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 in 2010. Book The EU and its Member States Joint Participation in International Agreements

Download or read book The EU and its Member States Joint Participation in International Agreements written by Nicolas Levrat and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-02-24 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EU law has developed a unique and complex system under which the Union and its Member States can both act under international law, separately, jointly or in parallel. International law was not set up to deal with such complex and hybrid arrangements, which raise questions under both international and EU law. This book assesses how EU law has been adapted to cope with the constraints of international law in situations in which the EU and its Member States act jointly in relations with other States and international organisations. In an innovative scholarly approach, reflecting this duality, each chapter is jointly written by a team of two authors. The various contributions offer new insights into the tension that continues to exist between EU and international law obligations in relation to the (joint) participation of the EU and its Member States in international agreements.
