Download or read book Johnson Space Center Research and Technology Report written by Kelle Pido and published by BiblioGov. This book was released on 2013-08 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the principle center for NASA's Human Exploration and Development of Space (HEDS) Enterprise, the Johnson Space Center (JSC) leads NASA's development of human spacecraft, human support systems, and human spacecraft operations. To implement this mission, JSC has focused on developing the infrastructure and partnerships that enable the technology development for future NASA programs. In our efforts to develop key technologies, we have found that collaborative relationships with private industry and academia strengthen our capabilities, infuse innovative ideas, and provide alternative applications for our development projects. The American public has entrusted NASA with the responsibility for space--technology development, and JSC is committed to the transfer of the technologies that we develop to the private sector for further development and application. It is our belief that commercialization of NASA technologies benefits both American industry and NASA through technology innovation and continued partnering. To this end, we present the 1998-1999 JSC Research and Technology Report. As your guide to the current JSC technologies, this report showcases the projects in work at JSC that may be of interest to U.S. industry, academia, and other government agencies (federal, state, and local). For each project, potential alternative uses and commercial applications are described.

Book Space Shuttle

Download or read book Space Shuttle written by Robert Godwin and published by Burlington, Ont. : Apogee Books. This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CD-ROM and Book. The Space Shuttle is one of the great triumphs of modern technology. 122 feet long, capable of carrying 65,000 pounds of cargo and weighing in at 90 tonnes, Rockwell's Orbiter stands alone as the world's only aircraft capable of flying into space and returning at speeds exceeding 18,000 miles per hour. On 12 April 1981 two astronauts climbed aboard the fully fueled and integrated Space Transportation System. Twenty years before on the same day a Russian missile had propelled 10,395 pounds into space using 1.1 million pounds of thrust. Gagarin flew 25,000 miles in 108 minutes. On this day 180,000 pounds would ride atop 7.7 million pounds of thrust. However, this crew would be landing on a runway after travelling over a million miles in a little over 54 hours. This book covers the Space Shuttle through the test flight stage and on to its first operational flight. Comprising rare NASA documents never before released to the public the reader is taken inside this remarkable machine in the words of some of the men who flew it. Complete with a Windows CD-ROM featuring NASA movies, hundreds of images and more!
