Book excerpt: This exhibition catalogue accompanies HOTA Gallery's second major exhibition, which celebrates one of Australia's greatest landscape painters, and living artists, William Robinson AO. In 1984 Robinson took up residence on a 208-acre farm on the western slopes of Beechmont in the Gold Coast hinterland. There, he would walk around and observe the surrounding sub-tropical rainforest, creating a time of reflection that revealed both the subtle pleasures and epic grace of the natural world around him. These experiences underpinned by his gentle curiosity inspired Robinson, a painter and pianist, to create monumental canvases that twisted Australian landscape painting in a thoroughly new direction. He created unforgettable art that speaks to his deep fascination with, and transformative expression of, the Queensland landscape. Classical music is an ever-present source of inspiration for the artist. He plays the piano often and listens intently to Bach, Strauss and Brahms, amongst others. Turning to his easel, Robinson paints landscapes that echo the complex compositions of these classical greats. He is attentive to the subtleties of musical compositions, and their appearance in his paintings are silences, inversions, tones, texture, rhythm, and form. The ability of both music and art to elevate the senses, and create a perception of wonder and enchantment, are faithful companions in the paintings of Robinson. Together through the generosity of private collectors and public collections, the entire Creation series produced over 16 years, will be presented together for the first time as the centrepiece of the exhibition in an experience that highlights the artist's spiritual connection to the natural world, and his love of classical music. Former Governor-General and proud Queenslander Quentin Bryce AD CVO is the guest curator of the exhibition, exploring and celebrating William Robinson's abiding love of music and painting in his transformative expression of the Queensland landscape.

Book The Benefits of Plant Extracts for Human Health

Download or read book The Benefits of Plant Extracts for Human Health written by Charalampos Proestos and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-01-13 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nature has always been, and still is, a source of food and ingredients that are beneficial to human health. Nowadays, plant extracts are increasingly becoming important additives in the food industry due to their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities that delay the development of off-flavors and improve the shelf life and color stability of food products. Due to their natural origin, they are excellent candidates to replace synthetic compounds, which are generally considered to have toxicological and carcinogenic effects. The efficient extraction of these compounds from their natural sources and the determination of their activity in commercialized products have been great challenges for researchers and food chain contributors to develop products with positive effects on human health. The objective of this Special Issue is to highlight the existing evidence regarding the various potential benefits of the consumption of plant extracts and plant-extract-based products, with emphasis on in vivo works and epidemiological studies, the application of plant extracts to improving shelf life, the nutritional and health-related properties of foods, and the extraction techniques that can be used to obtain bioactive compounds from plant extracts.

Book Healthcare of the Future

Download or read book Healthcare of the Future written by T. Bürkle and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2019-04-05 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagining the healthcare of the future is an interesting exercise, and although nobody can predict precisely what systems might operate in ten year’s time, the possibilities which already exist can give us a clue as to how healthcare may be managed by 2030. This book presents papers from the conference Healthcare of the Future, held in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, on 5 April 2019. The conference reflects some of the results of a two year multi-stakeholder Swiss research program in medical informatics. The research program, which began in 2016, saw 25 stakeholders cooperating for an integrated cross-sectoral treatment pathway with the goal of avoiding communication gaps and information loss among the different participants within the treatment process. The principal goals were to improve and accelerate healthcare processes and empower the patient to play an active and decisive role within their own care process. The project highlighted interaction between caregivers, patients and healthcare institutions based on modern information technology. Topics covered are divided into 4 sections: workflows in healthcare; how does eHealth change the care process; knowledge based IT support; and eHealth and the informed patient, and the book also includes the keynote conference speech on improving the hospital-patient relationship with digital communication. The book will be of interest to all those involved in healthcare whose aim is to improve and accelerate healthcare processes and empower patients to play a more active and decisive role in their own care.

Book Food Health and Safety in Cross Cultural Consumer Contexts

Download or read book Food Health and Safety in Cross Cultural Consumer Contexts written by Derek V. Byrne and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-08-17 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of cross-cultural perspectives in research in food is important in general and particularly so in relation to human perception in food and health. Food concepts are very different across different jurisdictions. Different markets and cultures have varying perspectives on what is considered a palatable, acceptable, or useful food or food product; in simple terms, one size does not at all in the majority of cases. Specific markets thus need targeted food design, to be successful from a myriad of perspectives. In this Special Issue anthology "Food, Health and Safety in Cross-Cultural Consumer Contexts", we bring together articles that show the wide range of studies from fundamental to market applicability currently in focus in sensory and consumer science in food, health, and safety cross-cultural contexts. From the included perspectives, it is abundantly clear that there is a need for much knowledge related to future food design linked to cross-cultural contexts and that this will continue to be critical to the success of food transfer in global food markets.
