Book excerpt: Joey was not supposed to be born, but his parents put God in control and he turned out to be a healthy baby. The child was blessed with remarkable talents and skills, and was protected by God throughout the many journeys of his life. But even under the most dire circumstances, Joey resisted God's presence, waiting until he was 60 to discover Jesus. Once joined with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, Joey became a modern day Paul, devoting his life to the expansion of God's kingdom. Joey says, "You have to live the story to be able to tell it." Join Joey's journey from the 1940s to present day, experience his strained relationships with his parents and sister, and the repercussions that result. Joey's Story could be anyone's story. The inspiration for this book came when the author was attending church. "I was tapped on the shoulder by God and asked, "Where Is My Book?" The Lord told me how to write it and that He would get me through it." This is the second book by Robert J. Tropea Sr. of Charlotte, North Carolina. He has more adventures of Joey to come. He states, "God did tell me how to present the story and did help me through it. When I finished, it was cathartic." Publisher's website: http: //sbprabooks.com/RobertJTropeaSr

Book Joseph Franz

Download or read book Joseph Franz written by Jo F. Humphrey and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-07-17 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "His training has been that of an engineer, and he is a thorough businessman. He is a man of integrity with no axes to grind who assumed his duties toward the town at a personal sacrifice."-Gertrude Robinson Smith, socialite and philanthropist, on Joseph Franz Joseph Franz was a precocious teenager when he arrived in America on October 16, 1897, determined to succeed at any undertaking. As an electrical engineer, Franz defied the most respected electrical names of the time, such as George Westinghouse, to experiment with untested methods of producing and providing electricity. After retiring from the electrical field, he dared to design and build two great cultural buildings in the Berkshires that are still used today. One provides shelter for the renowned Boston Symphony Orchestra. The other is the first theatre built specifically for dance at Jacob's Pillow, an old farm near Becket, Massachusetts that has become the first dance related institution in America to be designated as a National Historic Landmark. Through his European education, Franz learned that to brag about oneself was very unethical. Because of his modesty, few are aware of his tireless contributions and service to his community in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and the surrounding area. Franz's children are finally able to help him bring his accomplishments to light in Joseph Franz-A Renaissance Man in the 20th Century.

Book Skiing Sun Valley A History from Union Pacific to the Holdings

Download or read book Skiing Sun Valley A History from Union Pacific to the Holdings written by John W. Lundin and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2020 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Union Pacific Railroad's Averell Harriman had a bold vision to restore rail passenger traffic decimated by the Great Depression: create ski tourism in Idaho's remote Wood River Valley. A $1.5 million investment opened Sun Valley in December 1936 with a lavish lodge, luxury shopping, Austrian ski instructors and extensive backcountry skiing. Prestigious tournaments featured the world's best skiers. Chairlifts invented by Union Pacific engineers serviced skiers quickly and comfortably. Ski instructor and filmmaker Otto Lang recalled that seemingly overnight, it became "a magnet for the 'beautiful people,' a meeting place for movie stars and moguls, chairmen and captains of industry, Greek shipping tycoons, and peripatetic playboys--and playgirls--of the international social set." After World War II and Harriman's departure, Union Pacific's willingness to pay the $500,000 yearly subsidy waned. Bill Janss purchased it in 1964 and reimagined it as a year-round resort but lacked the capital for growth. Sinclair Oil owners Earl and Carol Holding acquired it in 1977, revitalizing it into a premier resort with international status. Award-winning ski historian John W. Lundin celebrates America's first destination ski resort using unpublished Union Pacific documents, oral histories, contemporaneous accounts and more than 150 historic images.
