Book excerpt: Have you been looking to get a raise? Consider job stacking instead. With the rise of remote work, getting a second job that pays half or more of your current salary is easier than trying to actually land a 50% or greater raise with your current employer. With that comes the question: In an hourly or salaried position, you’re getting paid the same whether you put in 100% or 50% effort—so why give 100% to one job when you can give 50% to two jobs and get paid double? In this book, you’ll learn just how this is possible, how to set yourself up for success as a job stacker, pitfalls to avoid, and different strategies for long-term maintenance of multiple full-time jobs. Companies are always trying to get more out of their people—it’s time to flip the script. Instead of trying to set up a “side hustle,” why not maximize your value per hour and make the nature of modern work work for you?

Book Women s Work

Download or read book Women s Work written by Megan K. Stack and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK OF 2019 From National Book Award finalist Megan K. Stack, a stunning memoir of raising her children abroad with the help of Chinese and Indian women who are also working mothers When Megan Stack was living in Beijing, she left her prestigious job as a foreign correspondent to have her first child and work from home writing a book. She quickly realized that caring for a baby and keeping up with the housework while her husband went to the office each day was consuming the time she needed to write. This dilemma was resolved in the manner of many upper-class families and large corporations: she availed herself of cheap Chinese labor. The housekeeper Stack hired was a migrant from the countryside, a mother who had left her daughter in a precarious situation to earn desperately needed cash in the capital. As Stack's family grew and her husband's job took them to Dehli, a series of Chinese and Indian women cooked, cleaned, and babysat in her home. Stack grew increasingly aware of the brutal realities of their lives: domestic abuse, alcoholism, unplanned pregnancies. Hiring poor women had given her the ability to work while raising her children, but what ethical compromise had she made? Determined to confront the truth, Stack traveled to her employees' homes, met their parents and children, and turned a journalistic eye on the tradeoffs they'd been forced to make as working mothers seeking upward mobility—and on the cost to the children who were left behind. Women's Work is an unforgettable story of four women as well as an electrifying meditation on the evasions of marriage, motherhood, feminism, and privilege.

Book excerpt: THE BOOK COMES WITH AN ONLINE CLASS & TEMPLATES If you are looking for easy 'guerilla marketing' alternative techniques that bring recruiters to you, tap the hidden job market, and increase the amount and quality of your job interviews -- then you want this book. My Story and Why This Book is for You I have been working in the recruiting industry as an Executive Search Consultant and Career Coach since 2004, but something happened in 2015 that completely changed how I worked, literally overnight. I had a client who was an Internet Marketing Manager and was seeking a position in E-commerce, social media marketing, or digital marketing; he could barely get a call for an interview after a year of job hunting. Before I started his job search campaign, I checked his LinkedIn.com profile to make sure it looked good. His LinkedIn profile was absolutely horrifying. His picture was a selfie that looked like a bad mugshot after a night of drinking and a subsequent police interrogation. His profile had too much information that was irrelevant to his goals, his headline was meaningless, and he only had 24 connections. There was no way I could position someone that was supposed to be an expert in digital marketing with this repellent LinkedIn profile. My client was absolutely desperate for job. He was a nice guy and a good job candidate with a lot of related experience. I usually just give my clients tips to improve their profile but I knew time was of the essence and I needed to take control of his online image immediately. I got his login for LinkedIn as well as other online job boards and within two hours, I re-aligned everything, got a new professional profile picture, changed all of his online profiles to match his job search goals, and did a campaign to grow his connections over the LinkedIn 500+ connection display threshold. Within 48 hours he had over 300 connections and one job interview. By the end of the week, he had four job interviews and had hit the 500+ connection mark and ... He had not applied for a single job! Not one! All the calls he got were from his online profiles. This method is now the core of my career coaching practice. So what is the secret? It is just one phrase: Keyword-stacking. Once you learn how to keyword-stack your profiles in the way that recruiters search, you will get calls too. What You Will Be Able to Do After This Book Have recruiters come straight to you for great jobs Get calls for jobs without applying Tap unadvertised jobs in the hidden job market BONUS: You Also Get ... access for FREE to my $200 Online Class which includes My copyrighted 'Core-3(c)' career assessment Fill-in-the-blank interview preparation scripts Salary negotiation scripts and so much more! Reviews from my 5-Star Online Course The best course I've ever been on. "If ever there was a course that you need to go on then it is this. I am very qualified but wasn't getting the phone calls for jobs because my strategy was totally wrong...If you want to get the hits then get the course!" by Keith McClean Concise, efficient, effective, "With amazingly helpful downloadable content (just copy and paste into document)...Generates results, works for every industry and all job levels." by Kevin Massabni, About The Author Dr. Karen Gurney was born, raised, and lives in Cleveland Ohio with her husband, two Goldendoodles, and a Papillon. As a Clevelander, the economic struggles of the city fostered her interest in urban economic development and why places grow, die, and are re-born and what the people that live there can do about it. One of the greatest joys of coaching across the nation (and even the world) is to understand the job market that creates the demand for her clients' background.

Book Gender Work and Community After De Industrialisation

Download or read book Gender Work and Community After De Industrialisation written by V. Walkerdine and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-01-17 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does an industrial community cope when they are told that closure is inevitable? What if this is only the last in a 200 year long line of threats, insecurities and closure? How did people weather the storms and how do they face the future now? While attempts to regenerate communities are everywhere, we do not often hear from the people themselves just how they managed to create safe collective spaces or how the fall of the whole house of cards brought with it effects which can be felt by young people who never knew the town when it was an industrial heartland. We hear the story of how men and women tried to cope and still want to retain their community in the face of its destruction. What can they and will they have to pass to the next generation and where will that leave the young people themselves, who have nothing to stay for but are unable to leave? This book examines these crucial questions facing post-industrial societies.

Download or read book Tales Out of School written by Roger White and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1983, reissued here with a new preface, Tales Out of School presents the experience of seventy young people from different parts of the country, most of whom left school at sixteen and are now either in work, unemployed or in the twilight world of the Youth Opportunities Programme. Through a series of interviews they reflect upon their eleven years of compulsory schooling and the preparation it gave for the world of work, offer their comments and criticize the school institution and processes. Many of them have experienced long periods of unemployment, and their perceptions of the relationship between school and adult life are both revealing and thought-provoking. The second part of the book initiates a dialogue between pupils and the Establishment by presenting responses to the young people’s comments from well-known adults who were at the time specialists in particular educational fields and who were in a position to have some influence on practice and policy. This unique juxtaposition of the views of both ‘consumers’ and ‘enablers’ provides the basis of a valuable and exciting debate. Today it can be read in its historical context.

Book From Immigrants to Ethnic Minority

Download or read book From Immigrants to Ethnic Minority written by Lorna Chessum and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While there is an extensive sociological literature concerning race relations, racial discrimination and the process of migration, this has tended to focus on snapshots at a given moment in time. There are few historical accounts of the development of black communities in Britain. This book will be the first social history of a black community in modern times which attempts to weave many aspects of life together to give a more comprehensive understanding of the lives of black people in Britain. The book will address the way peoples’ lives are constructed through racialized identities and how African Caribbean people in Leicester relate to the wider community. It provides an important contribution to the debate concerning the social class profile of different ethnic groups. The work is gendered throughout and discusses the different nature of the experiences of men and women. The 1991 census shows Leicester to have the highest proportion of ethnic minority residents of any city outside London, however compared to other cities with black and Asian communities, it has received little attention from academics. The present study charts the development of Leicester’s African Caribbean community from its origins in the Second World War to 1981 and its changing construction from 'immigrants' to 'ethnic minority'.

Darrell Starks story begins with the first seventeen years of his life, including the hardships that he endured, along with the deep sense of perseverance and overwhelming capacity for love that he learned along the way. The second part of his journey begins when he enlisted in the United States Army and requested duty in the Philippine Islands. He was in the Philippines when World War II began. At that time, Darrell Stark was captured and became a Prisoner of War of the Japanese for three and a half years. The third part of his journey begins with his liberation in September of 1945. At that time he returned to the United States to his loving and loved family, and struggled to come to terms with a multitude of physical and psychological problems. The fourth part of his journey begins when he met his wife and moved to the state of Connecticut, where he was a recipient of the kindness and confidence of many wonderful people. That helped him to get a start in life despite his war experience. As the third picture on the cover will indicate, he moved on to acquire a position of responsibility and trust and to maintain a successful and rewarding life.
