Such requirements exist in real-time systems in which some jobs are used to monitor the progress of other jobs: the monitor jobs must be scheduled within a specific time after the job to be monitored. We show that the general JSD and the unit-time JSD problems are NP-complete. We also present an O(n) algorithm for the bi-level unit-time JSD (BUJSD) problem and an O(n℗) algorithm for the multi-level unit-time JSD(MUJSD) problem. The BUJSD algorithm uses an adjusted earliest-deadline-first algorithm, while the MUJSD algorithm uses the extensible partial schedule technique. The correctness of these algorithms is also discussed."
