Book Overeducation Performance Pay and Wages

Download or read book Overeducation Performance Pay and Wages written by Mehrzad B. Baktash and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overeducated workers are more productive and have higher wages in comparison to their adequately educated coworkers in the same jobs. However, they face a series of challenges in the labor market, including lower wages in comparison to their similarly educated peers who are in correctly matched jobs. Yet, less consensus exists over the adjustment mechanisms to overcome the negative consequences of overeducation. This study examines the hypotheses that overeducated workers sort into performance pay jobs as an adjustment mechanism and that performance pay moderates their wages. Using German Socio-Economic Panel, I show that overeducation associates with a higher likelihood of sorting into performance pay jobs and that performance pay moderates the wages of overeducated workers positively. It also holds in endogenous switching regressions accounting for the potential endogeneity of performance pay. Importantly, the positive role of performance pay is particularly larger for the wages of overeducated women.

Book Organizational Effectiveness

Download or read book Organizational Effectiveness written by Ivan T. Robertson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-10-17 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizational Effectiveness: The Role of Psychology examines psychological approaches in organizations, not from the more common perspective of their impact on individuals, but in relation to how the work of psychologists impacts on the overall effectiveness of the organization. It also provides a critical review of what psychology has to offer; the way psychologists choose the problems they address, work with others, and evaluate and demonstrate the impact they have. Robertson, Callinan and Bartram have brought together leading researchers and practitioners in work and organizational psychology. Each chapter provides a review of current knowledge, practice, issues and future directions in their own area of expertise, with a focus on contributions and implications for organizational functioning and the wider arena of managerial thinking. This book is for anyone interested in understanding the complex relations between individual, group and organisational performance and effectiveness. It is a valuable and challenging resource for advanced students and practitioners of occupational psychology, organizational behaviour, HRM, and psychological consultancy in organizations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Underemployment – when people are employed in some way that is insufficient, such as being overqualified or working part-time when one desires full-time employment – is a challenge faced by all industrialized nations and their organizations and individuals. Just like unemployment, some level of underemployment exists even in the best of times, but it becomes more pervasive when the job market is weak. Given the current economic climate in North America and abroad, researchers and scholars in various disciplines (psychology, business, sociology, economics) are becoming more interested in investigating the effects of underemployment and identifying possible practical solutions. Underemployment synthesizes the current understanding of the phenomenon by bringing together scholars with diverse perspectives and expertise with the aim of informing and guiding the next generation of underemployment research.

However, there is much debate about the consequences of this phenomena and the short and long term effects for both the overeducated worker and the economy as a whole. This book contributes to our understanding of recent developments in the research on overeducation by providing a detailed overview of the pertinent theoretical and policy issues."

Book Overeducated and Over Here Skilled EU Migrants in Britain

Download or read book Overeducated and Over Here Skilled EU Migrants in Britain written by Bradley Saunders and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UK's offer of immediate free access to A8 workers resulted in a larger-than-expected influx of A8 migrants to the UK, which caused a public backlash and heated debates over the benefits and costs of large-scale immigration. Much has been written about the political and economic impact of this influx. This book focuses instead on the complex interweaving factors affecting the work and non-work lives of skilled migrant workers in the UK working in jobs which are not commensurate with their work experience, skills and interests. The focus on the European context addresses the need for a better understanding of contemporary labour mobility within the EU. The important, though often neglected, perspective of individuals who take on work below their level forms the focus of this book. In-depth interviews analyse the lived experiences of migrant workers in the UK working in jobs which are not commensurate with their qualifications and experience.

Book Overeducation and Overskilling in Malaysia

Download or read book Overeducation and Overskilling in Malaysia written by Zainizam Zakariya and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is more, the GTS-07 reveals that overeducation leads to a lower job satisfaction and increases the on-the-job search behaviour amongst the overeducated workers. Both negative effects are much higher for the workers who are severely rather than moderately overeducated. As regards firm performance, negative externalities from having mismatched workers at the workplace are observed, as these tend to reduce firm performance. However, these negative externalities are largely contributed by having a higher proportion of overeducated as compared to overskilled workers. Apart from quit rate, overeducation decreased the workplace average pay, labour productivity, output and sales per worker but increased in absenteeism. By contrast, hardly any impact is observed regarding overskilling on firm performance apart from the average workplace pay. This suggests that reducing the incidence of mismatch, particularly educational mismatch in the workplace, is essential in improving firm performance thus remaining competitive domestically and globally. This thesis contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the incidence and the consequences of overeducation and overskilling on individuals and firm performance in Malaysia. Similar study remains to be very scarce in the context of a developing country.
