Book Investigating Job Satisfaction Among Early Childhood Teachers Using Self determination Theory

Download or read book Investigating Job Satisfaction Among Early Childhood Teachers Using Self determination Theory written by Catherine Jones and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is widely understood that in Australia there are high levels of teacher turnover in the early childhood (EC) sector. However, what contributes to the job satisfaction of those early childhood teachers who remain committed to teaching in EC is less understood or researched. In particular there is a limited focus on understanding this effect qualitatively in the current Australian ECEC context. The aim of this study was to develop a deeper understanding of why some teachers felt satisfied in their role, what inspired them to remain in the sector and what was happening in their workplaces that supported their work. This study also tested the validity of Deci and Ryan's (1985) Self-Determination Theory as a theoretical framework for understanding teacher motivation and job satisfaction. Data occurred in two phases. An online survey was completed by 229 EC teachers working in LDC centres across Australia, who held face-to-face teaching responsibilities. In phase 2, in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 of these teachers who reported high levels of job satisfaction and a low intention to turnover in the on-line survey. Of these teachers, two of their directors were also interviewed and artifacts, including centre philosophy documents were collected for analysis. An analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data resulted in the emergence of three key themes influencing teacher job satisfaction: 1) A culture of continual learning, 2) A living philosophy and 3) A meaningful experience at work. Findings from this study have implications for the early childhood sector at both policy and centre levels, with a particular focus on leadership and organisational strategies to enhance EC teacher job satisfaction.

Download or read book Job Satisfaction of Early Childhood Educators During the COVID 19 Pandemic written by Shelby Taylor Holp and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early childhood educators' perceived stress and overall job satisfaction stem from several workplace factors. The COVID-19 pandemic has created additional stressors and safety procedures in the workplace. This study examined job satisfaction gathered via survey data from early childhood educators in the state of Ohio. The participants completed survey questions about their employment during the 2018-2019 (pre-pandemic) and 2020-2021 (during pandemic) school years focused on five facets of job satisfaction: co- worker relations, supervisor relations, the nature of the work itself, working conditions, pay and promotion opportunities. COVID-19 pandemic-specific questions were added to gauge the impact of the pandemic on job satisfaction. Results indicated overall job satisfaction was not statically different between the two school years; however, overall job satisfaction was relatively low. In exploring the themes of the COVID-19 question responses, many educators expressed feelings of being overworked, burned out, overwhelmed with protocols, not connected with parents, and isolated from co-workers. They expressed frustration with low pay, staff shortages, classroom management, and a perceived lack of support from supervisors/administration. Strategies and recommendations for improving job satisfaction among early childhood educators are provided.

Book The Difference in Job Satisfaction Between Full time and Part time Early Childhood Educators Working in Public and Private Schools in South Carolina

Download or read book The Difference in Job Satisfaction Between Full time and Part time Early Childhood Educators Working in Public and Private Schools in South Carolina written by Allison Hepfner and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this quantitative, causal-comparative study was to determine if there was a difference in perceptions of job satisfaction among full-time and part-time teachers who work in both private and public early childhood centers in South Carolina. This study adds to the literature by investigating the impact of work employment classification and type of school on job satisfaction of Early Childhood educators. It is important to investigate the job satisfaction of early childhood educators because job dissatisfaction and high turnover in centers can negatively impact young children. This study allowed 200 participants throughout multiple early childhood centers in South Carolina to complete the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire survey to determine any differences. A two-way ANOVA was conducted to conclude any differences and/or interactions among the groups. Results indicated there was no significant difference in job satisfaction among type of school and early childhood educators or between type of position and type of school environment. However, there was a difference in job satisfaction and employment work classification. Overall, early childhood educators a satisfied with their positions, despite many shortcomings in early childhood education. Recommendations for further research include exploring the job satisfaction of early childhood educators specifically in urban and rural areas, as well as including a qualitative approach to achieve a well-rounded look at the early childhood educator.

Book Developing Leaders Within Early Childhood

Download or read book Developing Leaders Within Early Childhood written by Amanda McElroy and published by R. R. Bowker. This book was released on 2023-09-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a growing need in early childhood education (ECE) programs for leadership to be understood, grasped, and utilized as a tool. ECE programs are tasked with not only training new hires in classroom management skills, but also in training their staff to be leaders within their own classrooms. Administrators in ECE programs are in the business of training the future leaders of early childhood. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the relationship of the servant leadership of ECE supervisors to teacher job satisfaction and intent to stay at their current center in licensed Texas centers. The unavoidable difficulties ECE teachers face every day contribute to loss of job satisfaction and an increase of intent to quit. The results of this study imply that leaders have the ability to significantly influence teacher job satisfaction and intent to quit. There will be teachers that cannot be satisfied, and there will be teachers who will quit despite their leaders' best efforts; however, leaders can make a difference by putting into practice the servant leadership model and focusing on helping their teachers grow as both educators and individuals.
