Book Jimmy and His Dad Go Turkey Hunting

Download or read book Jimmy and His Dad Go Turkey Hunting written by Pap Ciotola and published by . This book was released on 2022-02-04 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our families love of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors brought countless hours of interaction with my boys, my brother, and my friends that created treasured memories. I always wanted to publish one of the many "Jimmy and his Dad" stories I wrote which are based upon real life experiences with my boys. I selected the Ghost of Hangman's Hollow because it was the first one I wrote and always brought a smile to my face. It is a story of an elusive turkey we hunted in a small patch of woods we call Hangman's hollow. In the story, we learn there is more to hunting than harvesting the animal. We learn to enjoy the day, the people we are with, and all mother nature has to offer. Most of all we learn to have fun no matter what the outcome of the hunt is.

Book Taking Aim

Download or read book Taking Aim written by Eva Shockey and published by Convergent Books. This book was released on 2018-08-28 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An acclaimed bow hunter who defies the stereotype that hunting is a man’s game, Eva Shockey is at the forefront of a new wave of women and girls who are passionate about outdoor sports. Eva Shockey grew up expecting to be a dancer like her glamorous mother. But something about spending family vacations RV-ing across North America and going on hunts with her dad sparked in her an enduring passion for a different way of life. In Taking Aim, Eva tells a very personal story of choosing the less-traveled path to a rewarding life in outdoor pursuits like hunting and fishing. For her, as her millions of fans can attest, that has meant hunting as a way of harvesting food, caring deeply about conservation, sustainability and healthy eating, and getting closer to God in nature. In this riveting memoir for the adventurer in all of us, Eva takes readers along as she hunts caribou on the rugged Aleutian Islands, tracks a 1,500-pound bull moose across the unforgiving Yukon, and meets many other challenges of a life in the wild. Along the way we learn that hunting is about so much more than pulling a trigger. "My story is about discovering your dream," writes Eva. "It's about following your passion, mastering your skills, taking aim no matter who thinks you’re crazy…and then letting the arrow fly. If you’ve done all you can, I can tell you that you’re almost certain to hit your mark." Whether you’re a lifelong hunter or a city dweller who has never set foot in the wilderness, Eva’s story delivers an empowering message about rejecting stereotypes and expectations, believing in yourself, and finding the courage to pursue what you care about most.

Book A Hundred Years of Texas Waterfowl Hunting

Download or read book A Hundred Years of Texas Waterfowl Hunting written by R. K. Sawyer and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2012-07-13 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The days are gone when seemingly limitless numbers of canvasbacks, mallards, and Canada geese filled the skies above the Texas coast. Gone too are the days when, in a single morning, hunters often harvested ducks, shorebirds, and other waterfowl by the hundreds. The hundred-year period from the mid-nineteenth to the mid-twentieth centuries brought momentous changes in attitudes and game laws: changes initially prompted by sportsmen who witnessed the disappearance of both the birds and their spectacular habitat. These changes forever affected the state’s storied hunting culture. Yet, as R. K. Sawyer discovered, the rich lore and reminiscences of the era’s hunters and guides who plied the marshy haunts from Beaumont to Brownsville, though fading, remain a colorful and essential part of the Texas outdoor heritage. Gleaned from interviews with sportsmen and guides of decades past as well as meticulous research in news archives, Sawyer’s vivid documentation of Texas’ deep-rooted waterfowl hunting tradition is accompanied by a superb collection of historical and modern photographs. He showcases the hunting clubs, the decoys, the duck and goose calls, the equipment, and the unique hunting practices of the period. By preserving this account of a way of life and a coastal environment that have both mostly vanished, A Hundred Years of Texas Waterfowl Hunting also pays tribute to the efforts of all those who fought to ensure that Texas’ waterfowl legacy would endure. This book will aid their efforts, along with those of coastal residents, birders, wildlife biologists, conservationists, and all who are interested in the state’s natural history and in championing the preservation of waterfowl and wetland resources for the benefit of future generations.
