Book Jewish Dreams and Realities

Download or read book Jewish Dreams and Realities written by Henry Iliowizi and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Jewish Dreams and Realities: Contrasted With Islamitic and Christian Claims Instead of following the paved road of strict system and method, we are going to imitate the bee in hurrying from flower to flower, gathering the honey from each petal, then serve it up freely to all who desire to partake thereof. Our em barrassment is flowery exuberance, which makes choice diflieult. The kingdom of our God embraces all the Edens and all the stars, all the precious mines and all the treasure-houses. To which store, to which jewel, give preference above the others? There is such an abundance of wonder-things in the immense vault we are on the point of entering, that the eye is dazzled by the splendor of the inestimable boards, and the mind shrinks from the idea of computation. Thus let us, unchained by time-honored regularity, sweep, as the eye does, from the Orion to the Zodiac, from the Lesser Bear to the Greater Bear, thence to the other constellations, and finally lose ourselves in the nebulae of the Milky Way, where, according to the sky reading Herschel, there are at least twenty million suns, each one warming and sustaining a group of planets and satellites, yet in all making up but a limited number in the immensity of the heavenly hosts. Book Jewish Dreams and Realities

Download or read book Jewish Dreams and Realities written by Henry Iliowizi and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Jewish Dreams and Realities: Contrasted With Islamitic and Christian Claims A perusal of this work will, it is hoped, sufficiently justify its raison d'etre. We are not aware that the modernized Goliath, Jeroboam, and Apion have condescended to offer the Jew an apology for rough treatment. We shall, however, let our readers judge whether, in our critical strictures, we for one moment have deviated from the beaten highway pointed out by historical facts. We have earnestly endeavored to give to Cæsar what is Caesar's; but we have not hesitated in restoring to Jehovah what is unquestionably His. Let there be no doubt as to the relation of Judaism to mankind. In the interest of truth and justice we should combine our efforts to repel baneful aggression, to clear the Jewish name of calumny, define our position as the lineal descendants of the patriarchs, and emphatically reiterate our message to the race. As faithful Jews our mission is great and glorious. The pressing duty of the hour is to teach the son of Israel to know and respect himself, to distinguish between the humane and the inhuman non-Jew, and to live up to the ideas and the ideals of an illustrious ancestry. A plain statement of "Jewish Dreams and Realities" contrasted with "Islamitic and Christian Claims," while it is likely to strike here and there a discordant note in the heart of intolerant zealotism, may at the same time contribute to strengthen that growing cordiality which of late brightens the intercourse between progressive Judaism and enlightened Christianity. In writing these pages fairness, candor, and veracity have been steadily kept in view. Whether justice has been done to all topics touched upon is not for us to decide. A general but brief survey naturally precludes exhaustive treatment. Our claim rises no higher than to have satisfied a good motive; and whatever the effect this book may produce on the reader, its industrious elaboration has left the author a happier son of his race. Download or read book The Contrast Truth written by Efe Umurhohwo and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contrast truth is a religious book of more than one volume, with volume 1 having about 280 pages. the book considered the authenticity of some verses in both the Bible and the Quran in other to establish logical points. This book is necessitated by the level of lack of spiritual knowledge and understanding being displays daily by those who call themselves theologians, Academia, spiritual leaders, religious Apologetics and custodian of God’s word in teachings concerning the one and only true God. It clearly compares statements and stories rendered in both books against the backdrop of the believes held by the adherents of the three major religions in the world. The main purpose of this book is to enlighten every spiritual minded person about the truthfulness of the personality of the one and only true God whom all claim to be worshipping in other to bridge the disparities and abate hatred within the society at large. In this book volume one, the true divinity of Jesus Christ as the Messiah was established with clear evidence from the bible and Quran as references. No one has ever pointed this out in history. This book also points out the inconsistences in both the Quran and the Bible against the existing dogma held by their adherents that both are void of such contradictions. This book consists of controversial questions that raises the consciousness of the reader to a degree of better understanding why questing for the truth. Some of these questions asked were answered in this book while the unanswered one will be answered in the next volume. This book is written with an open mind with a great effort to be free of biasness and prejudice but based only on proves from the Bible and Quran. This makes it suitable for academic purpose. It is a potent weapon for Jews, Christians, and Muslim’s apologetics to have during debates whenever it arises. This book is a must have for every home of Jews, Christians and Muslims who seek knowledge about the true personality of Jesus Christ as recorded by all the prophets before him and how the prophet Muhammad words differ in totality. It is a known fact that cannot be disregarded that all the religions in the world believe that there is God. Therefore, if they all claim to know Him, why do they fight each other’s in the bid of fighting for God when God said He will only have mercy upon whom ever He wills. He does not say His mercy will only be for the Jews neither did he say only for the Christians nor did he say for the Muslims only. Let no man boast that him or her own religion is only the right way less such one perishes in their own ignorance. The only right way is to do the will of God. This book was able to prove that both Christianity and Islam as a Nation were promise fulfilled and are in God’s plan just as Jacob and Esau, Isaac and Ishmael were all in God’s plan of restoration of all things. The accurate knowledge of God is an important integer for one’s salvation. Thus, this book breaks it down to the simplest form for a layman to understand and to be well equipped while contending for his or her faith. In this book, a clear distinction was established between the two classes of Christianity that majority of pastors will never talk to their followers about. This is also a very strange subject most people have not heard of in Christianity. The book clearly shines a light on the difference between Jehovah in the Bible and Allah of the Quran. It also differentiates the Almighty God from the Mighty God in the Bible account with a supporting verse in the Quran which the Muslim Imam, the Christians Pastors and the Jewish Rabbis never thought of or are spiritually blinded to. Finally, the book was concluded with the writer’s submissions and advice for the religious fanatics and extremists of all religions to shun violence in the disguise of fighting God’s fight because at the end God says He will have mercy on whom He will irrespective of ones religion.

Book Do We Worship the Same God

Download or read book Do We Worship the Same God written by Miroslav Volf and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11-09 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Often the differences between the three Abrahamic religions -- Judaism, Christianity, and Islam -- seem more obvious than their commonalities, leading to the question "Do we worship the same God?" Can the answer be "yes" without denying our differences? This volume brings Jewish, Christian, and Muslim philosophers and theologians together to answer this question, offering rare insight into how representatives of each religion view the other monotheistic faiths. Each of their contributions uniquely approaches the primary question from a philosophical perspective that is informed by the practice of worship and prayer. Concepts covered include "sameness" and "oneness," the nature of God, epistemology, and the Trinity. Do We Worship the Same God? models serious-minded, honest, and respectful interreligious dialogue and gives us new ways to address an ongoing question.

Book The Invention of the Jewish People

Download or read book The Invention of the Jewish People written by Shlomo Sand and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A historical tour de force that demolishes the myths and taboos that have surrounded Jewish and Israeli history, The Invention of the Jewish People offers a new account of both that demands to be read and reckoned with. Was there really a forced exile in the first century, at the hands of the Romans? Should we regard the Jewish people, throughout two millennia, as both a distinct ethnic group and a putative nation—returned at last to its Biblical homeland? Shlomo Sand argues that most Jews actually descend from converts, whose native lands were scattered far across the Middle East and Eastern Europe. The formation of a Jewish people and then a Jewish nation out of these disparate groups could only take place under the sway of a new historiography, developing in response to the rise of nationalism throughout Europe. Beneath the biblical back fill of the nineteenth-century historians, and the twentieth-century intellectuals who replaced rabbis as the architects of Jewish identity, The Invention of the Jewish People uncovers a new narrative of Israel’s formation, and proposes a bold analysis of nationalism that accounts for the old myths. After a long stay on Israel’s bestseller list, and winning the coveted Aujourd’hui Award in France, The Invention of the Jewish People is finally available in English. The central importance of the conflict in the Middle East ensures that Sand’s arguments will reverberate well beyond the historians and politicians that he takes to task. Without an adequate understanding of Israel’s past, capable of superseding today’s opposing views, diplomatic solutions are likely to remain elusive. In this iconoclastic work of history, Shlomo Sand provides the intellectual foundations for a new vision of Israel’s future.

Book Learned Ignorance

Download or read book Learned Ignorance written by James Heft and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Constructive interreligious dialogue is only a recent phenomenon. Until the nineteenth century, most dialogue among believers was carried on as a debate aimed either to disprove the claims of the other, or to convert the other to one's own tradition. At the end of the nineteenth century, Protestant Christian missionaries of different denominations had created such a cacophony amongst themselves in the mission fields that they decided that it would be best if they could begin to overcome their own differences instead of confusing and even scandalizing the people whom they were trying to convert. By the middle of the twentieth century, the horrors of the Holocaust compelled Christians, especially mainline Protestants and Catholics, to enter into a serious dialogue with Jews, one of the consequences of which was the removal of claims by Christians to have replaced Judaism, and revising text books that communicated that message to Christian believers. Now, at the beginning of the twenty-first century, many branches of Christianity, not least the Catholic Church, are engaged in a world-wide constructive dialogue with Muslims, made all the more necessary by the terrorist attacks of September 11. In these new conversations, Muslim religious leaders took an important initiative when they sent their document, ''A Common Word Between Us, '' to all Christians in the West. It is an extraordinary document, for it makes a theological argument (various Christians in the West, including officials at the Vatican, have claimed that a ''theological conversation'' with Muslims is not possible) based on texts drawn from the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament and the Qur'an, that Jewish, Christian, and Muslim believers share the God-given obligation to love God and each other in peace and justice. The Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies brought together an international group of sixteen Jewish, Catholic, and Muslim scholars to carry on an important theological exploration of the theme of ''learned ignorance.''
