This book was released on 2024-01-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book “Jesus’s Epithets: ‘Teacher’ and ‘Prophet’ – A Cognitive Semantics Approach to Social Roles” is based on a completed PhD thesis from the Doctoral School of Languages and Cultural Identities at the University of Bucharest. It focuses on the interplay between Jesus’s epithets, specifically “teacher” and “prophet,” using cognitive semantics as a framework for analysis. The book explores the complementarity of these roles, highlighting their portrayal of Jesus’s key attributes and his dual human-divine identity. Cognitive linguistics provides the perspective for delving into these social roles, emphasizing their significance in understanding the complexity of Jesus’s character. It shows that Jesus embodies two complementary epithets – “teacher” and “prophet” – representing distinct approaches to knowledge transmission, either through human activity or divine intervention. The chapters systematically examine the roles of teacher and prophet, employing cognitive semantics tools and exploring textual fragments. The analysis of parables as Jesus’s preferred form of teaching uses metaphor and conceptual blending theories, providing insights into his pedagogical endeavors. The examination of Jesus as a prophet draws upon Dahlgren’s stereotypical model, establishing compelling evidence for Jesus’s prophetic role. The final chapter underscores the overlap between the teacher and prophet roles, emphasizing the usefulness of the radial concept. It challenges the notion of sequential roles, asserting that Jesus is simultaneously both a teacher and a prophet, with the two functions coexisting. The book illustrates the intricate complexity of Jesus’s character proving that Jesus not only fulfills but surpasses typical expectations in both roles, consistently revealing his dual identity and the permanent truth of both epithets.

Download or read book Systematics Critical and Constructive 2 With Compendium Interactions written by Ronald R. Ray and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-06-14 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Christian systematic theologian should read widely, think deeply, and share ideas concerning the biblical meaning of Christian Faith (as do biblical theologians). But for systematics the decisive focus is on the normative significance of Christian faith for today, having taken account of insights from various disciplines, from biblical and historical theology in particular, and from the systematic theologies that one finds helpful. In its critical and constructive effort this volume is much indebted to the writings of a wide range of systematic and biblical theologians. Sometimes in the background but often in the foreground is biblical analysis and interpretation. This writing never just expounds the ideas of particular systematic or biblical theologians, but utilizes them where helpful for articulating Christian Faith.

Download or read book Old Texts Through New Eyes written by Dallas R. Burdette and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-03 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians frequently slaughter freedom of conscience with fanatical dogmatism. It is not uncommon for various fellowships of God's people to lay an embargo on freedom in favor of their own exclusive doctrine or understanding of the Scriptures. One objective of this book is to set Christians free from sectarianism. The views set forth in this book are not bound by party ties. It is my desire that these writings will assist Christians in their desire to escape the prevailing forms of radicalism manifested by so many sincere and devout believers. In my fifty-eight years of preaching and teaching, I have witnessed that men and women, for the most part, are afraid of freedom. This volume examines the philosophy of "what we teach is true and what others teach is false." Among some bodies of believers, freedom of investigation is rigidly shackled. The chapters in this book seek to defuse the attitude that the one who refuses to comply with the status quo is no longer a brother in Christ. The diversity of the chapters in this book refutes the prevailing opinions of many Christians-"my opinion is the only sound one, flawless and incontestable." Dallas Burdette has been a serious student, teacher and preacher of the Bible for fifty-eight years, supporting himself for many years as an agent for AFLAC. He has written numerous articles for religious journals, as well as many essays and sermons which are available on his website. He has developed a keen interest in promoting unity among God's people through a more accurate reading of the Word. He has degrees from Amridge University (formerly Southern Christian University) where he also was Director of Extended Learning for five years. He holds the Doctor of Ministry degree (1999) from Erskine Theological Seminary.

Download or read book Historical Phases of Prophetic Teaching written by Evelyn Theresa Watson and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Volume IV the author, Evelyn Theresa Watson, compares the Revelator’s words to scriptural and gospel prophecy verifying the doctrinal mystery and miracle that lie behind the religious warfare of past and present ages. Her commentary presents THE REVELATION OF ST. JOHN THE DIVINE as a treatise on the life and time of Jesus Christ as the messenger of the messianic message unto the seven churches. She attests to the Revelator’s seven visions of revealed prophecy which retell the previous two thousand years of unfulfilled scriptural prophecy and foretell one hundred years of fulfilled gospel prophecy. The author correlates these two time periods to the nineteen hundred years of biblical prophecy that followed. The beginning of the twenty-first century marks the end times of the Bible’s historical phases of prophetic teaching.
Download or read book Matthew The Teacher s Gospel written by Paul S. Minear and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2003-09-08 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Most studies of Matthew have been oriented toward a recovery of the portrait of Jesus or toward strengthening faith in him in our time. I have chosen a different orientation. The focus of my attention is on the work of the Evangelist as a teacher and on his intended audience in the churches of the first century--men and women who, like many of us, were charged with basic educational work among adult believers in Jesus Christ. I hope that such an orientation may strengthen your sense of kinship both with the Evangelist, who was a teacher, and with his first readers, who also were teachers." From the Preface This insightful commentary on the Gospel of Matthew will help readers better understand the importance of this book of the New Testament. Paul S. Minear focuses on Matthew as a teacher in the early Christian church, assesses Matthew's impact on Christians in the first century, and examines the fascinating array of literary forms found in this Gospel. Throughout, the book aims at increasing comprehension of the distinctive and constructive theological stance of Matthew.

Download or read book Historical Phases of Prophetic Teaching Volume III written by Evelyn Theresa Watson and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the third volume of Historical Phases of Prophetic Teaching, the author, Evelyn Theresa Watson, introduces an innovative way to research the life and time of Jesus Christ. She presents his gospel message in chapter verse subdivisions with descriptive headings that denote a statutory code of ethics in a systematic or set discourse of preceptive prophecy. Each chapter title specifies the parabolic message found within the text of THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ST. MATTHEW. For example: Chapter 8 Mortal Deformity Healed, Chapter 9 Mortal Defamation Healed, Chapter 10 Mortal Deficiency Healed. The author has endeavored to present the manner of Jesus' teaching and preaching in a way that enables the reader to follow his example in overcoming the world's belief in the temptations of physicality, immorality, and materiality. Her mission is to prove the infallibility of the mortal word within the immortal Word of God as exemplified in Jesus' spiritual understanding of the Christ.

In The Jesus Christ Chronicles, Wazir Kooloo shares a comprehensive examination of the negative Islamic schools of thought about Jesus while analyzing past mistakes and answering long-held questions. While relying on the verses within the Holy Quran as a starting point, Kooloo takes spiritual seekers on a journey that delves into the unknown true facts surrounding Mother Mary, her parents, and her initiation into the services of the Temple; the historical account of Jesus pilgrimage to India; and the Prophets journey to Mount of Olives where He is told He must suffer great persecution for the honor of God. Kooloo follows the story of Jesus life to 33 ADa time in history that many biblical scholars refer to as the Year of the Passion of Christ, when an event unraveled that changed the course of religious history forever. The Jesus Christ Chronicles utilizes well-researched facts as it shares a fresh perspective on religion, philosophy, and reality.
