Book excerpt: Here, Jesus of Nazareth is presented as we have never witnessed him before--as a legal advocate, as a jurist, and as an interpreter of the Law of Moses. This bold book is an original and revolutionary conceptualization of Jesus as not only a profound religious thinker but also as a preeminent legal theorist. Here we find in Jesus's teachings and parables the analytical and moral reasoning, which is the foundation of Anglo-American common law, Western civilization, and modern, worldwide, and secular jurisprudence. Jesus Master of Law reminds us that laws, both secular and sacred, can be applied to achieve justice only when they are interpreted through the proverbial prism of righteous and moral objectives.

Dunn presents a book on a major issue in the study of Christian origins: what were the attitudes toward Jewish law within earliest Christianity? This volume not only gathers the author's significant contributions to date but also includes new material. Divided into nine parts, it is set in the wider context of a living dialogue and debate. The introduction maps out Dunn's extensive work in Pauline and Markan studies. The final chapter, "The Theology of Galatians," serves as a summary of Dunn's current position on Paul and the law and brings the volume to a convincing conclusion.

  • Publisher : Watkins Media Limited
  • Release : 2014-10-16
  • ISBN : 1780288395
  • Pages : 193 pages

Download or read book The Law of Light written by Lars Muhl and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Aramaic study of Yeshua’s spiritual teachings offers profound new insights into the New Testament, the Essenes and Dead Sea Scrolls, Mary Magdalene, and much more. Lars Muhl has had a lifelong burning interest in Jesus, not only as an archetype, savior, bodhisattva, and elder brother, but also in relation to the Essenes from the Dead Sea. The Law of Light is the result of his many years spent studying Aramaic and the techniques of Yeshua (Jesus). Yeshua spoke Aramaic. Through the Aramaic language, his teachings offer not just another interpretation of the New Testament, but the unveiling of a secret message that attempts, once and for all, to settle centuries-old conceptions of sin, and to once again connect man with the heavenly spiritual source. The core of Yeshua’s Aramaic message is intimacy, freedom, selfless awareness, unconditional love, compassion, and forgiveness. In all he says, there exists a hidden invitation to us to be present in, and dedicated to, everything with which we engage. Five minutes of total devotion is worth more than hours of hectic exertion. The aim is to set mankind free and to dismiss everything that is bound up in false notions.

Book Misquoting Jesus

  • Author : Bart D. Ehrman
  • Publisher : Harper Collins
  • Release : 2009-10-06
  • ISBN : 0061977020
  • Pages : 258 pages

Download or read book Misquoting Jesus written by Bart D. Ehrman and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2009-10-06 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When world-class biblical scholar Bart Ehrman first began to study the texts of the Bible in their original languages he was startled to discover the multitude of mistakes and intentional alterations that had been made by earlier translators. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman tells the story behind the mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and shows the great impact they had upon the Bible we use today. He frames his account with personal reflections on how his study of the Greek manuscripts made him abandon his once ultraconservative views of the Bible. Since the advent of the printing press and the accurate reproduction of texts, most people have assumed that when they read the New Testament they are reading an exact copy of Jesus's words or Saint Paul's writings. And yet, for almost fifteen hundred years these manuscripts were hand copied by scribes who were deeply influenced by the cultural, theological, and political disputes of their day. Both mistakes and intentional changes abound in the surviving manuscripts, making the original words difficult to reconstruct. For the first time, Ehrman reveals where and why these changes were made and how scholars go about reconstructing the original words of the New Testament as closely as possible. Ehrman makes the provocative case that many of our cherished biblical stories and widely held beliefs concerning the divinity of Jesus, the Trinity, and the divine origins of the Bible itself stem from both intentional and accidental alterations by scribes -- alterations that dramatically affected all subsequent versions of the Bible.

Book Jesus Christ Master of the Spiritual Science

Download or read book Jesus Christ Master of the Spiritual Science written by Hadi F. Eid and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-03-20 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Old Christianity has certainly done a great service to this world though skimming over the surface of Jesuss guidelines. What is most needed now is a fresh comprehension of his real mind and human saga. Rather than reviving primitive Christianity, we must go forward from where we find ourselves. The Master said it bluntly to his early disciples, I still have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of the Truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. Jesuss modern disciples should become in this era of knowledge an overflowing source of inspiration and superior motivation to all men and women. Religion is only an exalted humanism until it is made divine by enmeshing the heavenly spirit with the human experience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bishop Edwards: A Gospel for African American Workers During the Age of Obama is a moving and exhilarating story of a bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in the city of Baltimore. This fictional minister of the gospel has been imprisoned for his social conservative views of gender relations and marriage, as well as for his activism on behalf of aggrieved African American workers. From federal prison, this faithful minister addresses his constituents, which is a predominant African American trade union, through twenty-one formal letters (i.e., epistles). Borrowing heavily from the Christian teachings of the Apostle Paul and Martin Luther King, Jr., the topics of these epistles range from marriage equality, gender conflict, racial conflict, class conflict, trafficking in illegal immigrants, the sex trade, the deterioration of the African American family, political economy, law, and religion--all in an effort to defend his Christian faith and to vindicate the universal struggle for peace and social justice.
