Book excerpt: Does God, in His infinite wisdom, convince people to get rid of their car insurance? Does He encourage cannibalism? Does the God of more than six billion people actually have time to root for the Minnesota Vikings? According to some, yes. How do they know? God told them. Luckily, God also told Marc Hartzman to write this book, a collection of the most shocking, absurd, and hilarious things people have ever claimed God asked them to do, and to present them for your pure reading enjoyment. Including: The man that God told to perform surgery on himself God's generous offer to miraculously fill his believer's gas tank The fateful day God (assumedly feeling nostalgic for his teen years) asked a man to TP a police station The woman God instructed to direct traffic—topless And, sadly, many more

A sex-obsessed Narcissist who uses his charm, humor, and vivid imagination to enjoy life as much and as often as he can possibly manage, Rayne's own happiness, often at the expense of others, comes first. Joining Rayne in the majority of his adventures is Noel, a successful engineering consultant, who tends to go with the flow of things, as he long ago learned the futility of resistance. Best friends Mick, Issa, and Rob round out the group, but don't nearly complete the cast. Book The Devil Made Me Do It

Download or read book The Devil Made Me Do It written by Phyllis Gruesbeck and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you ever wonder how the world got to be in such a mess? Why does evil abound? Why do bad things happen to everyone, including “good” people? The book that you hold in your hands will give you a basic overview of just how sin got started on earth and its origin in heaven. “The devil made me do it” was a popularized catchphrase by Comedian Flip Wilson. But within these covers, you’ll learn that God is more powerful than the devil, and He is “able to keep you from falling” (Jude 24). You will also learn to identify the mysterious antichrist by learning the biblical identifiers. Another bit of knowledge that you will gain is who changed—or rather, attempted to change—the Ten Commandments, why, and where they are in print in their modified version. Do you know the five major characteristics of the God Family? You’ll find them outlined and explained here: 1. Holiness; 2. Omnipotence; 3. Omnipresence; 4. Omniscience; and 5. Immortality. By the time you come to the last page, you will know three things for sure: God is all-powerful, He loves you more than you can imagine, and He craves your love in return. And when you’ve finished, share the book with a friend who needs to know who God is. “…It is based in sound biblical knowledge with a sensitivity from one who has traveled life’s road and found God’s unchanging love.” —Jay Gallimore, former president, Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists “Phyllis was a student of the Word and she was a teacher at heart which you will discover as you journey through this book.” —Nadine Whitacre, Retired Nurse

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spirit Made Me Do It Difficult life lessons learned the hard way made simpler via God's way Would have, could have, should have were all I could come up with after I finally got around to reading the Bible midway through my fifty-eighth year of life. Being a retired English teacher, I have read my share of fine novels, short stories, plays, poems and letters over the years, each with its premise, lesson or moral. But the Bible, the most important literary work of all. I had deliberately avoided. I reasoned that "not knowing" would somehow diminish my accountability for the flaws of my imperfect existence. Ignorance was almost bliss for a while. This cop out was working just fine for me until life threw me a succession of 140 mph fast and curve balls. I got beamed something fierce, but it knocked some much needed sense into me. Yes, there was a weighty price for my knowledgeable ignorance, but I believe I know that I'm better for it. So, look at me now....spreading the "good news" in the only humble way I know how. Who would have ever thought? The Holy Spirit? Only God knows. I do hope that you enjoy reading these verses and consider them heaven sent as I certainly do. It's the only way I can account for something or someone, God Almighty. The Spirit Made Me Do It.

Book excerpt: USA TODAY, PUBLISHERS WEEKLY AND ECPA BESTSELLER • The internationally recognized Bible teacher and daughter of Billy Graham combines unique biblical insights and her own personal stories to show how the Holy Spirit guides us in our decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times, enriching our daily lives. In Jesus in Me, Anne Graham Lotz draws on her rich biblical knowledge as well as her personal journey—including her recent cancer diagnosis—to help us understand that the Holy Spirit is not a magic genie, a flame of fire, or a vague feeling. He is a Person who prays for us, guides us in our relationships and decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times. In this seminal teaching, she explores seven key aspects of the Holy Spirit that will revolutionize how you understand and relate to this vital third Person in the Trinity. As Anne writes, “One of my deepest, richest joys has been discovering by experience who the Holy Spirit is in every step of my life’s journey. Each name that He has been given—Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counselor, Strengthener, and Standby—reveals another aspect of His beautiful character and has provoked in me a deep love for the One who is my constant Companion . . . Jesus in me.” Discover how to better love and rely on the person of the Holy Spirit—and embrace how much He loves you through His presence, power, and provision in our daily lives. Praise for Jesus in Me “With plentiful biblical references, Lotz encourages those who already rely on Jesus to step into a purpose-filled life led by the Holy’s Spirit’s guidance. Christians who desire to live a life of greater purpose to glorify God will be awed by Lotz’s impassioned exploration of the role of the Holy Spirit in her life.”—Publishers Weekly

Book excerpt: 2016 Christianity Today Book of the Year in Apologetics/Evangelism One of Desiring God's Top 15 Books of 2015 Hearts Minds Bookstore's Best Books of 2015, Social Criticism and Cultural Engagement In our post-Christian context, public life has become markedly more secular and private life infinitely more diverse. Yet many Christians still rely on cookie-cutter approaches to evangelism and apologetics. Most of these methods assume that people are open, interested and needy for spiritual insight when increasingly most people are not. Our urgent need, then, is the capacity to persuade—to make a convincing case for the gospel to people who are not interested in it. In his magnum opus, Os Guinness offers a comprehensive presentation of the art and power of creative persuasion. Christians have often relied on proclaiming and preaching, protesting and picketing. But we are strikingly weak in persuasion—the ability to talk to people who are closed to what we are saying. Actual persuasion requires more than a one-size-fits-all approach. Guinness notes, "Jesus never spoke to two people the same way, and neither should we." Following the tradition of Erasmus, Pascal, G. K. Chesterton, C. S. Lewis, Malcolm Muggeridge and Peter Berger, Guinness demonstrates how apologetic persuasion requires both the rational and the imaginative. Persuasion is subversive, turning the tables on listeners' assumptions to surprise them with signals of transcendence and the credibility of the gospel. This book is the fruit of forty years of thinking, honed in countless talks and discussions at many of the leading universities and intellectual centers of the world. Discover afresh the persuasive power of Christian witness from one of the leading apologists and thinkers of our era.

Download or read book Make Me Like Jesus written by Michael Phillips and published by Rosetta Books. This book was released on 2017-09-13 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bestselling author serves up “a marvelous, full-bodied repast for those Christians who seek God’s presence rather than any blessings he might bestow” (Publishers Weekly). Most of us want to know God more intimately. But are we willing to boldly face the challenge of what that means? Are we truly willing to pray a prayer that may be dangerous in ways we cannot anticipate? Are we willing to ask God to make us like Jesus? Author Michael Phillips shares from his own life how he has learned to take up that challenge. Then he examines key decisions in the life of Jesus Christ that illuminate what it means for each one of us to be conformed to the image of his son—to love like Jesus, think like him, pray like him, and trust the Father like him. If status-quo spirituality is for you, do not read this book. It is a dangerous book—dangerous to the flesh—for the journey toward Christlikeness may be painful and costly. Yet that journey leads to the ultimate purpose God intends for all his children: conformity to the image of his son. “This book is a gem, written from the heart by a man I have called brother and friend for twenty years. Make Me Like Jesus gives us an open, honest look at what it really means to walk truthfully with Christ.” —Jim Ryun, former Congressman, Olympian, and coauthor of Heroes Among Us “Phillips offers a much-needed corrective to several popular but superficial descriptions of the Christian life.” —Bishop William C. Frey, author of The Dance of Hope

He had always been portrayed as a God of rules. After a few years, I had children and started thinking about what I would teach them. One day, I decided to take them to church. During that service God spoke to me. He asked me to come back. I told Him, No thanks, I am not interested in the rules. He said, Come, get to know me. I reluctantly agreed. This book is about getting to know and falling in love with God. It is a culmination of thought-for-the-day emails that were sent out during the period of time that I was getting to know God. God has walked me through it one baby step at a time. He will do the same for you.
