Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book I Tried Until I Almost Died

Download or read book I Tried Until I Almost Died written by Sandra McCollom and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2015-03-03 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tired of trying to measure up? Trade your anxiety and frustration for rest and relaxation. Many of us believe that in order to please God, we have to be perfect. It’s an easy lie to buy into. In a culture that emphasizes accomplishment and ever-higher goals, we feel driven to do more, achieve more, be more. And we get caught up in the unforgiving treadmill of self-imposed rules, believing that we should, we need to, we must. The result? Anger, frustration, and anxiety that keep us far away from the life of peace that Jesus promised. For years, Sandra McCollom lived in this trap. Finally worn out from striving for perfection but constantly feeling like a failure, one day she prayed in desperation, begging God for help. God answered Sandra by setting her on a life-changing journey to discover the riches of His grace. In I Tried Until I Almost Died, Sandra shares how she left behind her burden of anxiety and fear and shows you how to experience for yourself the freedom of trusting solely in the perfecting power of God’s grace.

Book Cuddled in God s Hands

Download or read book Cuddled in God s Hands written by Frances Purnell-Dampier and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cuddled in God's Hands is a magnificent inspirational autobiographical journey of a woman whose life is filled with a mixture of joy, pain, tragedy, euphoria, and supernatural visions. This memoir portrays the author's upbringing in Greenwood, Mississippi, during the pinnacle of the Civil Rights movement. During this turbulent segregated period in history, the author gives an in-depth look at her life and how, as a teenager, she and her family coped. The book chronicles the author's spiritual growth and shares stories of her extraordinary supernatural visions and encounters with angels. Her most amazing story of all is revealed when she is on the edge of despair after a horrible breakup with her husband, and God came to her and lifted her out of her darkness and brought her into the light. This transformed her life forever and gave her enormous faith as she juggled the many commitments of teaching, the uplifting yet critical demands of motherhood, and the resolve to triumph no matter what obstacles lay waiting.

Book Understanding and Accepting Our Responsibilities As Men

Download or read book Understanding and Accepting Our Responsibilities As Men written by Talmadge S. Robinson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-09 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First of all I like to thank god for all he has done in me and my wife's life, everything from keeping us when we were in sin, until now by giving us peace and joy in our hearts. I wish I could get the men to see that no matter how we may look at life it is going to all come down to the choices that we make in life as a man. Men I feel that it is time for us to start reaching out to the men of today because a lot of our young men and adult males are really confused about their responsibilities as men and god has placed it on my heart to show men that being a man and being a saved man is the desire that God has for our lives. But my first agenda is to ensure you that whatever your are going through at this point in your life; is to let you know that someone has already gone through it and is willing to help you get through your situation so you can have joy and peace in your life. But as men we don't like to talk about what we are going through in our life because we are taught from a young age that a man is not suppose to cry, show emotion or talk about what's going on in their minds, because that is a sign of weakness. But I want my brothers to understand that giving your life to Christ and letting him know that you need his help is not a sign weakness, but the first sign of being the man that God wants you to be. So I like for all the men of the world especially my unsaved brother to take time out of their busy schedules to read this book and know in my heart that once you read this book (Understanding and Accepting Our Responsibilities as Men) your life will never be the same again. Because I know that if I can touch the men of today and show them that they can live there life in peace, joy and love and that it is your time to receive your blessings by taking on your responsibilities as a man by giving your life to Christ first, then I know that the future for our younger generation will be promising. Men we are in a time now when our sons, daughters, and wife need us to be the men that god intended for us to be, so it's time for us to step up and take our rightful place as men in our families' life most of all in gods kingdom. Brothers you may say why is he so concern about the men, the reason is because one I am a man and the other reason is the lord put someone in my life to show me the way and through their prayers and his grace and mercy he saved me so I can understand and explain to the men of the world that we need to lead and not just follow. The 2nd reason is I am so tired of losing so many of our young men because we are not teaching them the true meaning of being a man. (So men it's time to stand up and take your rightful place at the head of your families be it single or married and help me reach other unsaved brothers.).

Book Bad Girls and Boys Go to Hell or not

Download or read book Bad Girls and Boys Go to Hell or not written by Gloria Neufeld Redekop and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-07-26 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To question the idea of hell as a default destination is to question the entire fundamentalist evangelical worldview. This book does just that. Fundamentalist evangelicalism holds that the Bible is an infallible authority and that all are born in sin. Sinners go to hell, but Jesus, taking their place, died to save them from hell. How did this belief come to be? What were the effects on people brought up with a belief in the reality of hell? What has been the process of people leaving the fundamentalist evangelical movement? In Bad Girls and Boys Go To Hell (or not), Gloria Neufeld Redekop takes us on her own personal journey as she engages a movement in which she was raised, conducting a careful study of the history of fundamentalist evangelicalism, the attachment to a literal-factual interpretation of the Bible, and an analysis of the experience of those who have left the movement.

Book excerpt: In this faith-bolstering book, best-selling author Edward T. Welch investigates the roots of fear in the human heart and the ramifications of living in the grips of anxiety, worry, and dread. Running Scared explores how fear inescapably takes root in all of our lives—and how our race for the good life finds us all too often “running scared.” Welch encourages readers to discover for themselves how the Bible is full of beautiful words of comfort and peace for fearful people. Everyone is afraid of something, and Welch guides readers to see how Jesus enters in to fear. Within thirty topical meditations, Welch offers sound biblical theology, gospel answers, and moment-by-moment, thoughtful encouragement for those in a heart and mind battlefield of rampant, panic-stricken fear. This comprehensive primer on the topic of fear, worry, and the rest of God will have readers retreating to Scripture for invariable constancy, stalwart care, and robust comfort rather than human independence, control, and self-protectiveness. Running Scared affirms that, through Scripture, God speaks directly to our fears, including: Money and possessions People and their judgments Death, pain, suffering, and punishment Welch's lively text provides convincing evidences that humanity's struggle against active and dormant fears are countless. He presents the good news that God provides both the remedy and the cure for this malady in the person of Jesus Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, and through powerful, life-altering promises in Scripture. Far more than merely another psychology "self-help" guide, Running Scared serves as a biblical road map to a life of serenity and security.

Book Private Investigations

Download or read book Private Investigations written by Victoria Zackheim and published by Seal Press. This book was released on 2020-04-21 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thrilling anthology, bestselling mystery writers abandon the cloak of fiction to investigate the suspenseful secrets in their own lives. For many of us, a good, heart-pounding mystery is the perfect escape from real-world confusion and chaos. But what about the writers who create those stories of suspense and intrigue? How do our favorite novelists cope with our perplexing world, and what mysteries keep them up at night? In Private Investigations, twenty fan-favorite mystery writers share first-person tales of mysteries they've encountered at home and in the world. Caroline Leavitt regales us with a medical mystery, recounting a time when she lost her voice and doctors couldn't find a cure, Martin Limón travels back to his military stint in Korea to grapple with the crimes of war, Anne Perry ponders the magical powers of stories conjured from writers' imaginations, and more. Exploring all the tropes of the genre -- from haunted houses and elusive perpetrators to regrouping after missed signals have derailed them -- these writers' true tales show just how much art imitates life, and how, ultimately, we are all private investigators in our own real-world dramas.
