Book Off Road with Clarkson Hammond and May

Download or read book Off Road with Clarkson Hammond and May written by Phillipa Sage and published by Ad Lib Publishers Ltd. This book was released on 2021-05-13 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Amazing adventures. Apparently I was there.' Richard Hammond For over 12 years Phillipa Sage worked alongside Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May as their PA, gofer, and fixer where she saw the boys at their best and, hilariously, at their worst. A closet petrol head, Phillipa started working in the motor industry on live events over 20 years ago and first worked with Jeremy Clarkson in 1997. She proved to be a loyal, trusted friend and colleague to all the presenters—from back in the beginning with Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson and Quentin Wilson—to the now infamous trio of Clarkson, Hammond and May, and was a key member of what became known as 'The Bubble', the exclusive, dysfunctional working family that toured the world. With an enormous budget, they travelled like rock stars—with super cars, yachts, private jets, helicopters, and five-star wining and dining—taking their unique brand of motoring madness to 18 countries, 31 cities and to over 2 million fans in arenas and at festivals from New Zealand to Norway. Supported by a large crew and their personal entourage, Clarkson, Hammond and May, when not performing in their extraordinary, high octane, live action, motoring theatre, indulged in extravagant holidays. They and their 'Bubble' family relaxed in luxury resorts or private houses entertaining themselves with pool parties, drinking, heli-sightseeing, drinking, private motorboat cruises, drinking, jet skiing, sailing, drinking and eating, and drinking. In Off-Road with Clarkson, Hammond & May, Phillipa shares the tour highs, lows and laughter of three clever, funny, and very stupid motoring journalists.

Book And On That Bombshell

Download or read book And On That Bombshell written by Richard Porter and published by Orion. This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was Top Gear's script editor for 13 years and all 22 series. I basically used to check spelling and think of stupid gags about The Stig. I also got to hang around with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. It didn't feel like something you should get paid for. From the disastrous pilot show of 2002 to the sudden and unexpected ending in 2015, working on Top Gear was quite a rollercoaster ride. We crossed continents, we made space ships, we bobbed across the world's busiest shipping lane in a pick-up truck. We also got chased by an angry mob, repeatedly sparked fury in newspapers, and almost killed one of our presenters. I realised that I had quite a few stories to tell from behind the scenes on the show. I remembered whose daft idea it was to get a dog. I recalled the willfully stupid way in which we decorated our horrible office. I had a sudden flashback to the time a Bolivian drug lord threatened to kill us. I decided I should write down some of these stories. So I have. I hope you like them. And now, a quote from James May: 'Richard Porter has asked me to "write a quote" for his new book about the ancient history of Top Gear. But this is a ridiculous request. How can one "write a quote"? Surely, by definition, a quote must be extracted from a greater body of writing, for the purpose of illustrating or supporting a point in an unrelated work. I cannot "write a quote" any more than I could "film an out-take". 'Porter, like Athens, has lost his marbles.'

Book A Book for Her

Download or read book A Book for Her written by Bridget Christie and published by Random House. This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridget Christie is a stand-up comedian, idiot and feminist. On the 30th of April 2012, a man farted in the Women’s Studies Section of a bookshop and it changed her life forever. A Book For Her details Christie’s twelve years of anonymous toil in the bowels of stand-up comedy and the sudden epiphany that made her, unbelievably, one of the most critically acclaimed British stand-up comedians this decade, drawing together the threads that link a smelly smell in the women’s studies section to the global feminist struggle. Find out how nice Peter Stringfellow’s fish tastes, how yoghurt advertising perpetuates rape myths, and how Emily Bronte used a special ladies’ pen to write Wuthering Heights. If you’re interested in comedy and feminism, then this is definitely the book for you. If you hate both then I’d probably give it a miss. “Christie is adept at turning on a sixpence between being comical, or serious, or both at once, and at pricking her own earnestness.” Telegraph ‘Christie piles derision and tomfoolery upon everyday sexism, while never pretending that jokes alone will solve the problem.’ Guardian

Book excerpt: Born to be Riled is a collection of hilarious vintage journalism from Jeremy Clarkson. Jeremy Clarkson, it has to said, sometimes finds the world a maddening place. And nowhere more so than from behind the wheel of a car, where you can see any number of people acting like lunatics while in control (or not) of a ton of metal. In this collection of classic columns, first published in 1999, Jeremy takes a look at the world through his windscreen, shakes his head at what he sees - and then puts the boot in. Among other things, he explains: • Why Surrey is worse than Wales • How crossing your legs in America can lead to arrest • The reason cable TV salesmen must be punched • That divorce can be blamed on the birth of Jesus Raving politicians, pointless celebrities, ridiculous 'personalities' and the Germans all get it in the neck, together with the stupid, the daft and the ludicrous, in a tour de force of comic writing guaranteed to have Jeremy's postman wheezing under sackfuls of letters from the easily offended. Book excerpt: As I Was Saying... is the seventh book in Jeremy Clarkson's best-selling The World According to Clarkson series. *** Crikey, the world according to Clarkson's been a funny old place of late . . . For a while, Jeremy could be found in his normal position as the tallest man on British television but, more recently, he appears to have been usurped by a pretend elephant. But on paper the real Jeremy remains at the helm. That's as it should be. For nearly thirty years he has been fearlessly leading the charge as one the best comic writers in the country. And in 2015, he shows no sign of slowing down. So, whether it's pondering If Jesus might have been better off being born in New Zealand Why reflexive pronoun abuse is the worst thing in the world How Pam Ayres's head trumps Gordon Gecko's underpants Or what a television presenter with time on his hands gets up to Jeremy is still trying to make sense of all the big stuff. Circumstances change. Nothing's forever. But As I Was Saying provides glorious proof that Jeremy remains as funny, puzzled, excitable, outspoken, insightful and thought-provoking as ever. As if you ever doubted it . . . *** Praise for Clarkson: 'Brilliant... laugh-out-loud' Daily Telegraph 'Outrageously funny... will have you in stitches' Time Out 'Very funny . . . Book The Top Gear Years

Download or read book The Top Gear Years written by Jeremy Clarkson and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We know all about the world according to Clarkson. In a series of record-breaking bestsellers Jeremy has revealed it to be a puzzling, frustrating place where all too often the lunatics seem to be running the asylum. But in The Top Gear Years, we get something rather different. Top Gearwas once just a television programme about what was probably still known as 'motoring'. Top Gearmagazine arrived in 1993. And that went well. Then, ten years ago, at a former RAF aerodrome in Surrey, Jeremy and his friends built a wold that was rather more to his liking- it was called Top Gear HQ. And Top Gear HQ turned out to be to Jeremy what the jungle was to Tarzan- the perfect place to work and play. But they didn't stop there. With their little corner of the commuter-belt properly sorted out, Jeremy and the boys had a crack at the rest of the world. Soon Top Gear Livewas charging around the globe with the subtlety of a mid-seventies rock tour and far-flung outposts were established from North America to China. Five hundred million viewers later, there was an empire of petrol-headed mayhem upon which the sun never set. And all along Jeremy was writing about it, Here are the fruits of his labours- the cars, the high jinks, the pleasure and the pain. Brilliantly written and laugh-out-loud funny, The Top Gear Yearsis Clarkson at his pithy, provocative, hilarious best.

Book The Top Gear Story The 100 Unofficial Story of the Most Famous Car Show In The World

Download or read book The Top Gear Story The 100 Unofficial Story of the Most Famous Car Show In The World written by Martin Roach and published by Kings Road Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02-07 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From humble beginnings as a 1970s motoring show, Top Gear has gone on to achieve diesel-powered world domination. After Clarkson and producer Andy Wilman successfully pitched a new format to BBC bosses, Top Gear returned to become the irreverent, funny and often controversial show we now know and love. The Star in a Reasonably Priced Car, the Cool Wall and Power Laps by the mysterious Stig have all become staples of Britain's favourite Sunday evening entertainment. Recent series have been defined by their madcap challenges such as driving across Africa in clapped-out bangers - with predictably hilarious results. However, the show's most shocking moment came in 2006, when Hammond suffered serious head injuries while driving a Vampire turbojet drag racing car at over 300mph. Clarkson, Hammond and May; they are the politically-incorrect-joking, stone-washed-denim-wearing, bloke-hero trio for the modern(ish) age. This brilliant, detailed book is fitting tribute to the show, its presenters and its most memorable moments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clarkson is back! Pre order his brand new book now. ___________ In November 2016 we woke up to the news that the forthright presenter of a popular television programme had become the most powerful man on the planet. His name, sadly, was not Jeremy Clarkson, but we might not have been any more surprised if it had been. Because the world seems to have taken a decidedly odd turn since Jeremy last reflected on the state of things between the covers of a book. But who better than JC to help us navigate our way through the mess? And while he's being trying to make sense of it all he's discovered one or two things along the way, including - The disabling effects of being vegan - How Blackpool might be improved by drilling a hole through it - The problem with meditation - A perfect location for rebuilding Palmyra - Why Tom Cruise can worship lizards if he wants to It's all been a bit unsettling. But don't worry. If You'd Just Let Me Finish is Clarkson at his best. He may be as bemused, exasperated, amused and surprised as the rest of us, but in a world gone crazy, thank God someone has still got his head screwed on ... Praise for Clarkson: 'Brilliant...laugh-out-loud' - Daily Telegraph 'Outrageously funny...will have you in stiches' - Time Out 'Very funny...I cracked up laughing on the tube' - Evening Standard
