Book High Temperature Strain of Metals and Alloys

Download or read book High Temperature Strain of Metals and Alloys written by Valim Levitin and published by . This book was released on 2010-04-23 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creep and fatigue are the most prevalent causes of rupture insuperalloys, which are important materials for industrial usage,e.g. in engines and turbine blades in aerospace or in energyproducing industries. As temperature increases, atom mobilitybecomes appreciable, affecting a number of metal and alloyproperties. It is thus vital to find new characterization methodsthat allow an understanding of the fundamental physics of creep inthese materials as well as in pure metals. Here, the author shows how new in situ X-ray investigations andtransmission electron microscope studies lead to novel explanationsof high-temperature deformation and creep in pure metals, solidsolutions and superalloys. This unique approach is the first tofind unequivocal and quantitative expressions for the macroscopicdeformation rate by means of three groups of parameters:substructural characteristics, physical material constants andexternal conditions. Creep strength of the studied up-to-date single crystal superalloysis greatly increased over conventional polycrystalline superalloys. From the contents: - Macroscopic characteristics of strain at high temperatures - Experimental equipment and technique of in situ X-rayinvestigations - Experimental data and structural parameters in deformedmetals - Subboundaries as dislocation sources and obstacles - The physical mechanism of creep and the quantitative structuralmodel - Simulation of the parameters evolution - System of differential equations - High-temperature deformation of industrial superalloys - Single crystals of superalloys - Effect of composition, orientation and temperature onproperties - Creep of some refractory metals For materials scientists, solid state physicists, solid statechemists, researchers and practitioners from industry sectorsincluding metallurgical, mechanical, chemical and structuralengineers.

  • Pages : 1024 pages

Download or read book Big Java written by Cay S. Horstmann and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 1024 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Big Java: Early Objects, 7th Edition focuses on the essentials of effective learning and is suitable for a two-semester introduction to programming sequence. This text requires no prior programming experience and only a modest amount of high school algebra. Objects and classes from the standard library are used where appropriate in early sections with coverage on object-oriented design starting in Chapter 8. This gradual approach allows students to use objects throughout their study of the core algorithmic topics, without teaching bad habits that must be un-learned later. The second half covers algorithms and data structures at a level suitable for beginning students. Choosing the enhanced eText format allows students to develop their coding skills using targeted, progressive interactivities designed to integrate with the eText. All sections include built-in activities, open-ended review exercises, programming exercises, and projects to help students practice programming and build confidence. These activities go far beyond simplistic multiple-choice questions and animations. They have been designed to guide students along a learning path for mastering the complexities of programming. Students demonstrate comprehension of programming structures, then practice programming with simple steps in scaffolded settings, and finally write complete, automatically graded programs. The perpetual access VitalSource Enhanced eText, when integrated with your school's learning management system, provides the capability to monitor student progress in VitalSource SCORECenter and track grades for homework or participation. *Enhanced eText and interactive functionality available through select vendors and may require LMS integration approval for SCORECenter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A masterpiece of Arabic love poetry in a new and complete English translation The Translator of Desires, a collection of sixty-one love poems, is the lyric masterwork of Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi (1165–1240 CE), one of the most influential writers of classical Arabic and Islamic civilization. In this authoritative volume, Michael Sells presents the first complete English translation of this work in more than a century, complete with an introduction, commentary, and a new facing-page critical text of the original Arabic. While grounded in an expert command of the Arabic, this verse translation renders the poems into a natural, contemporary English that captures the stunning beauty and power of Ibn ‘Arabi’s poems in such lines as “A veiled gazelle’s / an amazing sight, / her henna hinting, / eyelids signalling // A pasture between / breastbone and spine / Marvel, a garden / among the flames!” The introduction puts the poems in the context of the Arabic love poetry tradition, Ibn ‘Arabi’s life and times, his mystical thought, and his “romance” with Niẓām, the young woman whom he presents as the inspiration for the volume—a relationship that has long fascinated readers. Other features, following the main text, include detailed notes and commentaries on each poem, translations of Ibn ‘Arabi’s important prefaces to the poems, a discussion of the sources used for the Arabic text, and a glossary. Bringing The Translator of Desires to life for contemporary English readers as never before, this promises to be the definitive volume of these fascinating and compelling poems for years to come.

Book Invitation to Computer Science

Download or read book Invitation to Computer Science written by G. Michael Schneider and published by Course Technology. This book was released on 2006 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of Invitation to Computer Science follows the breadth-first guidelines recommended by CC2001 to teach computer science topics from the ground up. The authors begin by showing that computer science is the study of algorithms, the central theme of the book, then move up the next five levels of the hierarchy: hardware, virtual machine, software, applications, and ethics. Utilizing rich pedagogy and a consistently engaging writing style, Schneider and Gersting provide students with a solid grounding in theoretical concepts, as well as important applications of computing and information technology. A laboratory manual and accompanying software is available as an optional bundle with this text.
