Book Jason S Journey

Download or read book Jason S Journey written by Allen L. Harrell MD and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-03-28 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The end of my journey here on earth is presently being played out, but I am not afraid. In my lifetime, I have experienced it alllove, happiness, sorrow, and disappointment. Yet I have never felt alone. First, in my childhood, my parents were always there to love and protect me, and then it was my friends at school. I was abundantly blessed having Anne at my side, my wife and my lifes companion. But even above all this, I have felt the ever presence of God. Ive said and done many things that I regret, but my God is a forgiving god, and in my prayers, I am ever pleading for forgiveness for offending him in any way. I can only imagine the wonderment of what lies ahead for me. After seeing only a few of the natural wonders of the world, how much more beauty can my eyes behold? For me, heaven would be having my spirit set free to float throughout the universe, seeing the marvels of the world that God created for all mankind. But I can only imagine what heaven is really like. A song set to music by Bart Millard, I Can Only Imagine, says it all: I can only imagine what it would be like when I walk by your side. I can only imagine what my eyes will see when your face is before me. I can only imagine. Surrounded by your glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for you Jesus, or in awe be still? Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall? Will I sing hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all? I can only imagine when that day comes and I find myself standing before you. I can only imagine when all I do is forever, forever worship you. I can only imagine. I can only imagine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As in her Tony Award–winning Metamorphoses, Mary Zimmerman transforms Greek mythology—here the story of Jason and the Argonauts—into a mesmerizing piece of theater. Encountering an array of daunting challenges in their “first voyage of the world,” Jason and his crew illustrate the essence of all such journeys to follow—their unpredictability, their inspiring and overwhelming breadth of emotion, their lessons in the inevitability of failure and loss. Bursts of humor and fantastical creatures enrich a story whose characters reveal remarkable complexity. Medea is profoundly sympathetic even as the seeds are sown for the monstrous life ahead of her, and the brute strength of Hercules leaves him no less vulnerable to the vicissitudes of love. Zimmerman brings to Argonautika her trademark ability to encompass the full range of human experience in a work as entertaining as it is enlightening.

Book excerpt: When he opened his eyes that morning, eight-year-old Jason could tell something was terribly wrong. He looked through the door of his room to the hallway. The preacher was there, and some people whom he didn't know were milling around. Then Mom came into the room. Her face was pale. Her eyes were red. She quietly told him the horrible news: his father had killed himself. That moment started a whirlwind in his heart and mind that would last for a long, long time. Full of questions, he struggled in the months to come to find answers. Although Mom was immersed in her own grief, she tried to help him find the strength and understanding that could lead him through the darkness. This is the true story of a young boy who faced one of the most devastating situations in human existence: the suicide death of a parent. As seen through the eyes and felt in the heart of a child, the story will help caregivers gain an understanding of how the pain and reactions of grieving children differ from those of adults. The reader can find ways to help the grieving child in their life by reading about the journey of one who has experienced it and has been able to go on with his life. The story carries with it a strong message of hope and resolution for both the child and the caregiver. It will give insight into the thoughts of a child who is suffering a traumatic loss and provide tools to help the caregiver care for themselves as well. Fran Cote' is a transplanted southern lady who lives in the beautiful Ozark hills of Missouri. She holds a Master of Arts in counseling and worked in the mental health field for twenty years, specializing in adolescent and family therapy. She has taught undergraduate college classes and self-help seminars on stress management.

Book excerpt: Having pursued a conventional enough path through school and university, Jason Webster was all set to enter the world of academe as a profession. But when his aloof Florentine girlfriend of some years dumped him unceremoniously, he found himself at a crossroads. Abandoning the world of libraries and the future he had always imagined for himself, he headed off instead for Spain in search of duende, the intense emotional state - part ecstasy, part desperation - so intrinsic to flamenco. Duende is an account of his years spent in Spain feeding his obsessive interest in flamenco: he subjects himself to the tyranny of his guitar teacher, practising for hours on end until his fingers bleed; he becomes involved in a passionate affair with Lola, a flamenco dancer (and older woman) married to the gun-toting Vicente, only to flee Alicante in fear of his life; in Madrid, he falls in with Gypsies and meets the imperious Jesús. Joining their dislocated, cocaine-fuelled world, stealing cars by night and sleeping away the days in tawdry rooms, he finds himself spiralling self-destructively downwards. It is only when he arrives in Granada bruised and battered, after two years total immersion in the flamenco lifestyle that he is able to put his obsession into context. In the tradition of Laurie Lee's classic As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning, Duende charts a young man's emotional coming of age and offers real insight into the passionate essence of flamenco.
